The Wishing Well

The curtain opens to Rome, the Trevi fountain. The sun is high and shining brightly down on everyone who crowds the glistening waters. The city is bustling behind them. A young girl is leaning over the water, looking at her own reflection. She quirks a smile at her delicate features and takes a step back, fishing into her pocket for a quarter. She turns around, holds it tightly in her palm, and kisses it. Closing her eyes, she tosses it behind her and waits eagerly to hear the small plop over the chatter of the voices around her.

The Trevi fountain, located in Rome Italy, is one of the most famous fountains in the world. People of all shapes and sizes come to marvel at its beauty. More so, they come because of a story passed down from generation to generation. The story has become distorted with time, but as it was once said, the fountain posesses magical abilities.

Once upon a time, long long ago, there lived a wishing well. The well was rarely used but its waters were said to have run deep into the mountains. Travelers would pass the well and drink from it's fresh waters, and were blessed with whatever it was they desired the most. Usually they were gifted with food or supplies, but on some occasions the men wished for more.
Word traveled quickly about the well and many came to see it, but no one believed the powers it posessed until they had personally been affected. It worked miracles. The blind could see again, the disabled could walk, and love blossomed every where the eye could see.
One woman in particular, with a sick grandmother, tried to contain the water and bring it to her. The well only worked once on a person and she had already spent her wish earlier in the year. When she arrived back at her grandmother's side she discovered that the water had become normal. That very night her grandmother passed away.
A few years passed and the hype of the well had settled down to large amounts. It had become lost in the wilderness. Some say it crumbled from overuse, others say it relocated, but no one really knows what actually happened to it.
And one year someone struck gold. They built a fountain in the middle of Rome, Italy. Using a natural pipe, it became a virtuous source of water and joy. No one knew it was connected to that same wishing well that had thrived in the past.
Still, just like the well, rumours had been passed around and it's magical qualities were brought to light.
Time passed, the stories changed, and now it is merely seen as a myth. However you have to ask yourself, is it really a myth, or do the wishes really come true?
 

Welcome to Rome, the city of love. Everything around you is either made of stone or marble and the beauty is magnificent. They don't call it the city of love for no reason. All around you you see the love blossoming, the friendships building. More importantly, you can feel a tug in your heart.
Your spare change starts to feel heavy in your pocket and you can't help but think, "It can't hurt to make one little wish."
