Based off of the series, House of Night is about trackers and those who are being tracked. Once the trackers have marked someone, those who were marked have to leave their oild life behind to start a new one; a vampyre world. However, you'll live with the fact that you might die at any moment because your body is rejecting the change. There are four years your character could be in:
A Third Former is a fledgling, blue or red, that is in their first year of schooling at the House of Night. The Third Former symbol is the Labrynth of Nyx symbolizing their start of the path of Nyx. The classes are;

Literature 101
Fencing
Spanish 101
Intro to Equestrian Studies
Intro to Tae Kwan Do
and
Economics
Fourth Formers are fledglings in their second year. Their symbol is the wings of Eros symbolizing their continuous movement forward.
Sociology 101

Fifth Formers are those in their third year of schooling.
Their symbol is Nyx's chariot capturing the stars in her wake symbolizing that the fledgling continuing on Nyx's journey.
Sxith Formers are fledglings in their fourth and last year of schooling. Their symbol is the silhouette of the Fates, the three daughters of Nyx and the keepers of destiny and Atropos holds up scissors, symbolizing the end of school, or the unlucky ones, the end of life.
One thing to know is that the blue and red fledglings are different. Blue fledglings are those that are on their way to becoming an adult vampyre. A red fledgling is one that died during their change because their body rejected the change. From what I've read, they don't normally go to classes because they have less control over themselves. They're not like the blue fledglings that who are like they were when they were human.
