The Races

The Races

The 5th world war has caused a rift between many racial relations around the world, however much diversity still remains within the large satelite capitals, such as arcadia and Luno. Listed below are the playable races within [ r e b i r t h ].

Hyur

Boasting the largest population in Eorzea, the hyur came from neighboring continents and islands in three great migratory waves. With them they brought a sophisticated technology and complex ethos tempered by the breadth of the outside world. They rapidly became a driving force behind cultural progress, and are now widely attributed with spearheading advances in Arcadian civilization.

One of the hyur's strengths is the staggering variety of languages and social institutions they exhibit. This is said to account for their firm conviction in individual freedoms, though it also results in a relative lack of solidarity and group cohesion.

Two distinct groups now exist among the hyur-highlanders, denizens of mountainous areas, and midlanders, who reside in lower elevations.Image

Au Ra

The curved horns and beautifully patterned scales that characterize the Au Ra oft give rise to speculation that this Hyur-like race native to the Far Eastern continent of Othard are, in fact, the progeny of dragons.

This, however, has long been disputed, with scholars citing several distinct differences in the two races as evidence of decidedly dissimilar roots—the first and foremost being the enhanced hearing and spatial recognition granted by an Au Ra's cranial projections (traits not attributed to draconian horns), and the second being the gross disproportion of body mass between Auri males and females (again, a trait widely unseen in dragons). Miqo`te

Due to the differences of their cultures there are some physical differences between the Seekers of the Sun and the Keepers of the Moon.

Due to their exposure to light, the pupils of a Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te are vertically aligned slits with irises faintly colored. It is common for their eyes to be disparately colored from birth, a trait considered auspicious among their kind.

In contrast, due to their exposure to darkness, the pupils of a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te are large and round with little iris exposure. They are distinguishable from their diurnal cousins by their darker fur, larger ears, rounder eyes, more pronounced canines, and longer, skinnier tails. The groups share a superb sense of smell and powerful leg muscles, results of a long evolution geared towards hunting and predation. Image

Viera

The viera have leporine features, including long ears and supple limbs. Their trademark long ears grant them exceptionally good hearing, although they are said to have excellent senses overall. In this universe, viera are not only restricted to the female gender. Image

Al Bhed

Al Bhed possess certain distinctive biological traits. Al Bhed have green eyes and their pupils are spiral-shaped. Al Bhed have a wide array of skin tones, but regardless of skin color, all Al Bhed have blond hair (assuming they have hair). They are adept at swimming and holding their breath underwater, which serves them well during underwater excavations. The Al-Bhed communicate with their own language and are still masters of mechanics and engineering. Image

Elezen

The Elezen are a traditionally nomadic people who in former times claimed sole dominion over Eorzea, their presence predating that of the other races. Believing this prominence to be ordained by the gods, they came to develop an esteemed sense of honor and pride. However, with the declined of magical energy, the Elezen have found difficulty in adapting to the high depency on man-made technology. Elezen have lanky features, including long necks, long limbs, and long, pointed ears. Image
