015: Music Room

@Shin Hoseok For some reason, she was nervous around this particular teacher. He had actually defended her. That was new for her and she didn't know how to take it. Sure her brothers defended her, but they were her brothers and had practically raised her. "Alright. Thank you Sir." She bowed respectfully and turned to leave and then remembered her dilemma with her music for her dance. "Actually...this has nothing to do with our assignment, but I was wondering if you could help me with music selection for an upcoming competition. It's a few months away, but I need to choose music that will blend well. Preferably hip hop and classical." She hoped he'd be able to help.

@Boa Hoseok had made his way to his desk and was now sitting on the edge of it. He hummed, glancing up when she came over to him. "You can write as much as you want so, if you have multiple genres, you can write about all of them. It's nothing you need to stress over. Just write what you feel, okay," he answered, looking up at her again as he set his phone aside. A soft, friendly type smile was on his lips, "Do you have any more questions, or was that all?"

@Shin Hoseok Boa was shocked when he said he didn't believe her. Then again, why should he? No one other than her brothers ever really listened to her. Looking down at her feet, she let the other's leave, but she still had a question. "Sir, for our paper, what if we have different categories for our favorite types of music?" She didn't want to get anyone in trouble or dwell on what was going on in her life. Dance was her priority and getting away from her life here. The sooner she could do that, the better off everyone would be. She finally had the courage to look into his face, but only just, afraid of what she would see.

@Boa Hoseok raised a brow at the response he received although he wasn't in the least bit surprised. He stretched his arms over his head, his expression actually not changing all that much, although he looked even more unamused than he just had. "I just want you to know that I don't believe a word of that," he smiled brightly, "Even if it's true, I know that's not what was being discussed but I'll leave it alone for now. Consider it a warning, hm?" Lowering his arms again, his gaze was sharp again, hands returning to his pockets as he then stepped aside to let them leave.

@Shin Hoseok Boa was well aware that most of the popular students thought she was a joke. Many even thought she was gay, because she preferred to do more with guys, but she'd always told herself it didn't matter, because she loved herself the way she was. Hearing their teacher and seeing the way the other students looked, she was quick to answer. "Oh they were just laughing about my practice on the football field. I kind of tackled a guy three times my size and the rest of the team made jokes. No one was bullying anyone Sir." She didn't want more problems. One of the girls nodded. "Yea. You should have seen her. She took him down like it was nothing." Everyone nodded in agreement, but she knew the bullying wouldn't stop anytime soon. It was just a part of her life. Besides, even if it stopped at school, she still had to hear it at home.

@Boa Hoseok had answered a few questions from some other students, noticing when Boa was coming toward him how some of the other students had stopped near her. He stood in front of her and the ones near her, stopping them all in their paths, "Mind telling me just what it is that's so funny? It doesn't seem like everyone heard the good joke." His tone was colder, much colder than when he'd just been in front of the class explaining the lesson and their first assignment. His demeanor seemed to have changed as well. "I thought I made my policy on bullying, or anything of the like, very clear at the beginning of class," the instructor continued, his hands now slipping into his pockets.

@Shin Hoseok Scribbling the assignment into her planner, the young dancer smiled. This would be fun. She then realized her dilemma. She had so man types of music she loved. It all depended on her mood and what she was doing at the moment. Her favorite 3 were hip-hop, ballet and jazz for dancing. But just to listen to on a normal day, it was all K-pop or J-pop. After all, she spoke Korean, English and Japanese fluently. She was teaching herself Chinese and Arabic currently and she understood a great deal of Spanish and Italian. In fact, she was going to Italy with her brothers after she graduated. It was their gift to her and she couldn't wait. After he dismissed the class, Boa stood to go talk to him and heard someone whisper close to her ear, 'Teacher's pet. Why don't you sleep with him too. Maybe you'll even be good enough to pass.' Someone else chuckled and agreed, but amended 'Yea if he puts a bag over her head.' She just sigh and closed her eyes for a second, telling herself to ignore it.

@Boa As class came close to its end, Hoseok stopped his lecture for the time being. “Are there any questions,” he smiled and folded his arms over his chest. As he went through some of the questions, he then stopped again, “Okay, any questions that I haven’t answered, you’re more than welcome to stay and talk to me but I want to make sure to get the first assignment to you all. I want you to write about your favorite genre of music. It can be more than one and you can write as much as you want.” He hummed in thought for a moment before nodding, reassuring himself, “I’ll make them due next class. Any more questions about that, and you can ask me, as long as it’s before it’s due. Other than that, you all are dismissed.”

@Shin Hoseok Boa could feel everyone behind her, aka the popular kids glaring at her as the teacher informed them of his policy on bullying. She did her best to ignore it as she knew they would continue to make her life miserable as soon as the class was over. They also knew she wasn't likely to say anything. When you grew up with a mom who bullied you the same way your peers did, you began to believe what they said was true. It was her reason for the competition this month. There would be a scout from Juliard there and if she scored high enough, she'd get immediate acceptance. It would mean moving away from her family, but her brothers promised to visit and her dad already spent a lot of time in that part of the country. As Mr. Shin began the lecture, she opened her notebook and began taking notes quietly. She didn't want to dwell on what was waiting for her after class or even when she got home, if she went home. Having the brain she had, she was absorbing everything that was said and she was enjoying it immensely.

@Boa Hoseok's gaze sharpened at the sudden change in the class' response when a female student, Boa, introduced herself. "I should let you all know now that things like that are not allowed in my class and this is your only warning. Whether it's the cat calls or the insults, you will be reprimanded," he stated in a much colder tone that he usually used. Arms folded over his chest, his gaze sharpened as well. "And I know how you kids can be. As long as you're students of mine, I'd better not find out anyone is getting harassed in any way," Hoseok made sure to make it clear where he stood on the matter. He wasn't okay with anyone behaving like that, students or not, and, as a teacher, he needed them to understand what his rules were and where they would be crossing the line. After Boa, a few more students introduced themselves and then he was nodding. "Now that introductions are out of the way, shall we begin with our first lesson? We will be starting at the beginning with mass hymns and classical music," Hoseok informed his students, "How fast you all prove that you are retaining the information will determine how fast we move through the genres and the decades." With that being said, he began to discuss just what he'd said.

@Shin Hoseok When Boa heard what they would be doing in this class, she was somewhat relieved. She'd taken the class because she enjoyed music, but she already played 5 different instruments and didn't really enjoy any of them. Her mother had made her learn as a way to impress her stuck up friends. Music theory sounded challenging and the young woman enjoyed history so this class should be fun and give her the challenge she'd been looking for. Although she got perfect grades, she never wanted an easy mark. She liked earning her grades, so she knew she was doing something right. With all the sports she played and all of her competitions, she knew she had to maintain a certain average, but her brothers who had basically taken charge of her education demanded more than the school did from her. When it was her turn to introduce herself, she stared at her desk, feeling all eyes on her. "I'm Boa. I'm a dancer, so I'm hoping this class will help me improve with that as well as music selection." She didn't even bother to look up as the girls behind her began snickering and some of the guys made catcalls or other disrespectful noises and remarks about her body. She had just come from her dance class and had a free period after this to practice her choreography, so she hadn't bothered to change her leggings and leotard. The only difference was she had on high tops while her Pointe shoes were wedged in her bag.

@Boa Hoseok was concerned about how this class would go but he was undeniably hoping for the best. He ran his fingers through his hair as he left from where his office was to go to the music room. He didn't teach instruments but more about music theories and different genres. He just hoped that his students would be okay with it. Otherwise, there was a chance that his class would be replaced with something else. Thankfully, he'd be able to start with something small and try to work from there, learning what worked for his students as he taught them. He entered the class just before the students arrived, sitting there and waiting until it at least seemed all of his students had arrived. "Welcome to music theory and history," he greeted, "I'll be your instructor. You can call me Mr. Seok. This class may seem a little weird and unorthodox but it's experimental. So, just to get everyone's name..." With that, he began to go around and just work on learning a bit about all the students before he started his first lesson, just speaking a bit about the history of music.

Min Yoongi sat at the corner of the room, partly sober for the very first time in of the week. He didn't even know if this was his class. But it seemed as though every bone in his body couldn't get enough of the black and white keys his fingers caressed day and night, and his feet led him here once more. Sober or not, Min Yoongi lived and breathed music. He groaned at the white lights and the echo of the idle chatter of the round room, his head pounding due to his hangover. He wondered idly when the class was going to start.

@Shin Hoseok The sigh that could be heard in the hall was unusual for the time of day. Normally music class was exciting and something to be looked forward to, but today it felt more like a burden. Taking a deep breath, the door was shoved open and a petite young woman walked in, ready for the challenge ahead. She was having a mental conversation with herself. 'Relax. You may just come up with your answer in here. What better place to figure out music than in music class.' When she sat down, she finally looked around and she noticed there was only her and few other students. Maybe this class wouldn't be so big...
