Animals
while there's the normal animals, there's a few new ones you should know.
wyverns: large and serpentine, winged with poisonous talons acting as front limbs. created by the valg, the wyverns acted as aerial mounts for the ironteeth. A wyvern has a triangular head and long, curved fangs, the talons on their back legs can reach the size of a person's forearm and their tails as long as their body is armed with venomous barbs. They have leather hides coming in a range of colors, from sky blue and night black for stealth or every shade of gray. They can be domesticated and used as flying mounts capable of flying hundreds of miles in a day and still be ready to fight when they arrive.
Ghost Leopards: Ghost leopards are white and gray in coloration, allowing them to camouflage themselves in the snowy, rocky terrain of the Staghorns. Their eyes are pale green. ghost leopards are sizable beasts, with some being as large as bears. These majestic cats are predatory by nature. To sate their appetites, they descend from the mountains to hunt available livestock; when the livestock supply is depleted, they resort to hunting humans. Ghost leopards are very stealthy, and are adept at stalking their prey. The leopards' coloration augments this ability.
Asterion Horses: Asterion horses are prized for their beauty and endurance. As such, they command high prices in the market; therefore, only nobles and other wealthy citizens can afford to purchase them. Their pedigrees are traced through the females, and mares are much more valuable than stallions.
Ridderak: A type of valg, Ridderaks are 'vaguely human' in appearance. They have dark eyes and reeking black blood, and their grey skin is tight and hairless. They have misshapen heads with slit-like nostrils and mouths filled with venomous black fangs. They have long front arms, and claws sharp enough to carve stone. Their knees are like those on an animal's hind legs, and they appear to be quadrupedal. They are surprisingly lightweight. Ridderaks are bloodthirsty and vicious killers. In a ritual sacrifice, a Ridderak will slice open the victim's chest cavity and devour their internal organs, and drill a hole in the crown of the victims's head and eat their brain; their victim is usually missing skin from their face. Despite their predatory, ruthless nature, Ridderaks will submit to the person who summons them in order to conduct the ritual sacrifice. In this sacrifice, the summoner incapacitates a victim and writes Wyrdmarks in the victim's blood, which summons the Ridderak. The Ridderak then feasts on the victim's flesh and, in return, grants the summoner the victim's power.
Stygian spiders: also known as kharankui, are a species of Valg that take the form of giant spiders capable of speech. The ones in the northern parts of Erilea are known for spinning a impenetrable material called Stygian silk. They are notorious for what they ask for in trade for the silk. Handmaidens for the Valg queen, they entered the world to serve their queen once she had opened the gates to this realm. Stygian spiders are large, about as large as a horse. They come in variations of black, white and grey, and are elegantly built, rather than sturdy and hairy. Their bodies are smooth and their exoskeletons gleam. the southern kharankui resemble black widows rather than wolf spiders. Only stygian spiders produce spidersilk;kharankui see no need for it and look down upon their northern kin for doing so.
