how magic works
the manifestation of witch magic tends to resemble the standard elemental magic wielding. natural gifted magic does not need a channel (i.e. wands, spells, potions, etc.) as opposed to the stereotypical witch form of magic, but for some cases, especially in auryleis, magic mediums are still used and practiced.
magic is natural to all witches; though it is possible for some to be born with less that normal and more than normal. it is not, however, possible for a witch to be born without magic.
magic is passed through the blood of the mother and receives the form of magic the mother has. for example, if a fire blessed witch were to mate with an air blessed one, the witchling born would inherit it's mother's blessing of fire. this is due to the daughters and not the sons of the mother creator being the ones blessed with magic, and therefore are the ones to pass it through blood.
magic works in such a way that it's only possible limitation is turning into something it, in essence, is not. for example, wielding fire can also mean that you can boil someone alive, you can take someone's body heat out, etc. but it cannot turn water into wine, and it cannot make lilies randomly appear from the ground. as long as it is within the logical boundaries of the element, then it is possible.
magic works like how knowlegde works in our world; the more you practice and the more you learn, the better you get at using it. witches, at a very young age, are already taught how to properly use their magic. and while this is given much more emphasis in auryleis than it is in vlatka, it is a general rule of thumb that all witches must know how to use their magic. once you've mastered it enough and practiced enough, you can turn it into anything you wish of it: weapons, shields, etc. a good example is an air blessed vlatkan who can use air magic to make themselves invisible because they've studied studied and trained their magic diligently for a long time.
some witches use limiters to control their magic. limiters are any bodily accessories infused with iron to help witches with "limiting" their magic. limiters are used only in four occasions: if a witch's magic is too strong or too much to contain, if they cannot wield it properly, if there's an unwanted aspect in their magic they want to keep in, or if their magic is heavily affected by emotions such as anger or sadness.
