In this universe, animal hybrids coexist with humans. They can easily be spotted from their animal characteristics, including physical ones (tails or wings and ears, horns, or antennae, depending on the species) and their natural instincts. Some of them can also shapeshift into full animal form, but they can never turn into full humans. from time to time, they have heats or ruts.
Because of those characteristics, legally they don't have the same rights as humans. They can't vote, own property, or start a business by themselves. They need to have an owner to authorize them to work or travel and the owner will always take responsibility for the hybrid's actions. Usually, hybrids won't be seen walking around in the cities by themselves. (it's similar to nekopara and the persocoms in chobits in this sense)
However, it doesn't mean they don't have rights at all. The hybrids are protected against cruelty and neglect, they can be taken away if the owner is mistreating them. They can also refuse to be adopted for any reason. Some hybrids can only be adopted in pairs or groups by their choice.
As the sanctuary doesn't have THE resources to take care of wild animals, we'll only be taking in the FOLLOWING species for now: cats, dogs, ferrets, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, gerbils, rats, mice, bulls, goats, donkeys, horses (including ponies), llamas, alpacas, sheep, pigs, ducks, chicks, cockatiels, and bees.
The hybrids are encouraged to help MAINTAIN the cafe and the sanctuary. That includes serving guests, cleaning, making small repairs, keeping track of the inventory, looking after the hybrids who have just arrived etc.
If there's a hybrid a client has his eyes on, he can take them out for the day or night. It'll cost 10 points (might increase in the future) and the hybrid has to agree. unowned hybrids are encouraged to stay within the sanctuary.
A client is allowed to adopt as many hybrids as he can take care of as long as all agree to it. shared ownership is also allowed for humans who live together or not, the terms should be decided between them.
