Korean Alphabet
Hangul consists of twenty-one vowels and nineteen consonants.
*Note: These romaniations may change a bit depending on words
Put the vowels and consonants together as shown below to make a letter.
The darker orange is where the consonant goes. This consonant is a must! It can't be a letter without it.
The lavender to the right and under the darker orange is where the vowel go. Depending on the vowel, it can go on either the right side, bottom side or both.
----> ㅏ ㅑ ㅓ ㅕ ㅣ goes in the right lavender box
ㅗ ㅛ ㅜ ㅠ ㅡ goes in the bottom lavender box
ㅘ ㅙ ㅚ ㅝ ㅞ ㅟ ㅟ goes in both, separately.
The lighter orange is also the consonant, but this is only when the letter ends with the consonant.
----> han gul. both has the final consonant because of han gul (the bolded one is the ending consonant).
-----> sa rang hae yo (I love you). the first letter (sa) does not have the final consonant. so it's just spelled 사
Example:
ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ = 한 (Han)
ㄱ + ㅡ + ㄹ = 글 (Gul)
It's a little out of proportion, but you get the idea.
Korean alphabet is pretty easy to learn. Many people say it's easier to learn than english because it doesn't have that many exceptions or hard spellings. Some also say that Hangul is one of the most beautiful, and scientific language out there! :)
