[I keep thinking about Bobby and Mino today and I'm not quite sure why... But, enjoy? ^^;]
She feels really awkward sitting between the two of them. She figures that they would at least respect her honesty but she knew she should have known better. Why would anyone be okay with finding out their child could be someone else's? Especially when she's the reason their friendship ended to begin with.
"Why are you telling us this now? She's almost two," Jiwon looks like he's torn between crying and laughing.
Well, it's a proper reaction from someone who's trying not to cry over the fact that the little girl he's adored for the past year and a half may actually be his ex-best friend's child while also trying not to laugh at how ridiculous it all seems.
Minho just stares silently at the two of them. He isn't quite sure what to think or how to feel. He can't at all feel glad that maybe the little girl isn't his after all the time and money he gave. Then again, the money also gives him mixed feelings because, although he hates to admit it, he swears the little girl's mother has been money hungry from the beginning, leading him to figure that just maybe that's why she had begun to string the both of them along to begin with. Neither of them are that rich but good, clean money is good, clean money. On the other hand, he has to admit that he would be glad if the child's mother was out of his life. From all the experience he's had with her, she's nothing but trouble. This confession just feels like icing on the cake.
Jiwon is quiet now, too, as if he's expecting something to change. Maybe to find out that everything is a joke and he's just been mistaken this whole time but he isn't sure what he really wants. How is it possible for such a simple statement to cause so much confusion?
"Do you want to get a paternity test?"
It sounds like an insult and it most definitely feels like it shouldn't be coming from . The two of them look at each other before looking at her.
Would it change anything if they did have one? Almost two years in and they both already have really strong bonds to the little girl. Oddly enough, she refers to both of them as her daddy but, then again, she also doesn't really have any other male figures in her life like them. They sigh and look at each other again.
Would it really change anything if they had a paternity test?
"You'll at least watch over her, right?"
Now, their eyes are back on her. She won't look either of them in the eye. Neither of them are really violent but, for some reason, she feels like they both want to kill her and she doesn't blame them.
"I can't take care of her anymore and I want to make sure that she has someone to be there for her."
"What are you--" Both of them try to ask at the same time but are both cut off.
"It doesn't matter. I won't be around anymore and that's all that matters. I can't be."
Really looking at her now, she seems more broken than when she first began confessing.
"I'll take care of her," they both speak simultaneously again and at least they're not glaring at each other anymore.
She smiles in relief, "Please...Please, promise me that you'll take care of her. Either of you or both of you. At least one of you."
"Promise," their voices harmonize again but this time they look at the floor instead of at each other.
"She loves you both and I just... As long as she has love, from both of you, I know she'll be okay."
The room goes quiet and Minho speaks up first, "So, are you really not going to tell us where you're going?"
"It's not something you'd want to hear. I assure you. You don't need to worry about me."
Neither of them can tell if she's playing some sort of sick game, which wouldn't be the first time, or if it's really something that should draw concern. That's the trouble with the whole "boy who cried wolf" syndrome.
"I'll bring her by later. Just...let me know where to drop her off. I'll bring all her stuff, or at least what I can bring. The rest of her stuff can be worked out later."
With that, she's out of the door before anything else can be said and the silence that settles in the room isn't necessarily thick or uncomfortable but there is an unease floating around them. When their eyes meet this time, there's nothing but concern mirrored in their gazes.
"Are we co-parenting then," Jiwon asks, hands in his pockets.
"'Co-parenting?' You mean being her fathers together," Minho most definitely knows what Jiwon is referring to but he feels he has to be sure because he's still lost in his own thoughts for the most part.
"Yes," Jiwon pauses, looking down at the floor for a while before looking up at the other again, "Do you want to like...switch out? You have her for a week and I take her for a week or...?"
"...or?"
"Or...Or do you really want to just go ahead and do this together?"
"You actually want to do that?"
"It'd be better than sending her back and forth, right? Nothing wrong with us raising our daughter together... That sounds weird..."
There's no answer at first and Jiwon can see that Minho is really thinking this through. He feels a harsher wave of unease wash over him before he realizes that Minho is nodding.
"Together. We'll raise our daughter together... That does feel kind of weird to say..."
Jiwon smiles and it looks like he's about to lean in and sling his arm over Minho's shoulder but he stops midway. Minho raises a brow before shrugging his shoulders, offering a small smile.
"Go ahead."
Those two words seem to be the start of rekindling their friendship already, a familiar spark flying between them as Jiwon's arm rests over his old friend's shoulders. Things were definitely going to keep them on their toes from now on; On their toes and bound at the hip.
