Cute Boybands; B1A4 & Boyfriend

So a friend took the time to ask me about the aegyo lords of kpop. I don't really know them that well. But I was made to watch them and tell her exactly what I liked and didn't like and here's what I gather

B1A4: Started as cutesy boyband to steal teenage girls hearts (no, not just copying Simon from EYK), but I can tell they're attempting to move away from that image. But I think that all of them just have this face made to be cute so it's not really working that well. Not to mention most of their voices are sweet, soothing, or lively which fits their cute look. My least favorite song of theirs has to be Beautiful Target. It was all jumbled and filled with livelyness and aegyo everywhere. It was a fun video, I guess. I didn't really like that Sleep Well Good Night song either, honestly worse than Beautiful Target because it didn't catch my eye in being color fun at the very least like Beautiful Target did. I did kind of like Only Learned Bad Things and Tried To Walk. The lyrics were more appealing to me. Tried to Walk had more of video that I liked, but the color was all over the place (dull-ish with some color splash). And the rapper's hair, Baro I think, kinda was turn-off. Only Learned Bad Things, it was a cute video, which I normally don't like. But I liked how the guy was arrogant and payed little attention to the girl, it was fun and funny. I guess the only thing I do like about B1A4 is that some of their videos are lively, fun, and somewhat funny. But since I still don't really appeal to cute bands I can't promise I'll pay much attention to them in the future. I like the lead singers' voices. Jinyoung and Sandeul really pull it off well, and their other rapper has good high notes.

Boyfriend: Their debut was catchy, but it was kinda B1A4 where I think it was an attempt to steal all teenager girls hearts or noonas that are really too old for them. The video and and coloring was very fitting. The twins, are very eye-catching since you don't see twins a lot esecially in the same group. But I think they kinda look strange... But they do fit the cute look. The singers (four of them I think) sing very well and they harmonize with each other very well, in fact so well that I have a hard time distinguishing the four voices from each other. Don't Touch My Girl and I'll Be There were pretty much on the same level for me, they weren't really all that eye-catching nor ear-soothing to me. Though they weren't all that bad, they just weren't something that hits me rock hard or is really catchy. I think they tried to move a little bit away from their cute boy look, but still keeping the boyfriend look (not surprsing considering it's their name) , but like B1A4 most of them have this face and voice that are just made for cuter boybands. If they suddenly came out with a power song like B.A.P, Block B, EXO, it just wouldn't work for them. Love Style, was really an eye-sore. Somewhat catchy, but not as catchy as their debut song. It was a step up from cute, but a step down in all things fashion. Janus, was really far past my imagination and very different from anything else I'd seen them done. It was probably my favorite songs because it's more powerful and charismatic, but it still gave me an odd feelings because they seem to fit more of the cute style. It was just kinda awkward, especially with the twins. I YAH. I don't really have much of an opinion on I YAH. It was okay. They've definately moved away from trying to promote themselves as a cute group, but them looking that way still remains. ON&ON, I'm neutral with. I've actually been listening to it lately. It's a refreshing song, something any band would do really. Not really touching any borders.

I'm trying to slowly listen to more bands I usually don't. B1A4 and Boyfriend are at the center of that focus right now. Honestly its hard because I'm so judgemental and I was kinda raised that those kind of bands are gay. Gay is overused my household and I've sadly become accustomed to any guys showing cuteness being called gay. I'm trying to overcome this. My friend said just being a kpop fan is step forward, though, I think she's insulting kpop their so I'm going to go kill her.
