Kim Jongdae. That name used to be well known throughout the musical theatre industry in South Korea. It was the name of a child musical actor with the gift of a handsome voice of an actor. It was said the boy is as handsome as his voice too.
The musical industry dubbed him as the most promising actor and singer with his 2nd win at the Korea Musical Awards as the Best Actor and Most Popular Actor. He was 20 at that time. Jongdae living his dream and is on his way to becoming a successful musical actor.
The path for him to achieve that dream seems to be a steep mountain in a straight line, with stairs on them. But turns out, there's a deep fall on his path, and Jangdae didn't notice it as he takes the next step. He fell.
His life took a downturn when an accident happened during one of his preparations for a new play. Things took a wrong turn really fast when a huge chandelier fall in the middle of the stage when Jongdae was practicing a waltz with his partner. He saw the coming chandelier and push his partner to safety. His kind soul safe his partner, but he was unable to save himself when it falls on him.
No one knows exactly what has happened. That incident became a headline, not only because of the mysterious incident, but also the famous actor Kim Jongdae became injured to the point he couldn't walk for the next few years. That reality took a toll on the young actor, not only because of the fact that he couldn't continue his career as an actor anytime soon, but also because he was haunted by the cursed of theatre from his incident.
He wants to avoid theatre as much as possible, but he couldn't stop finding himself on having solace with singing and playing musical instruments to fill in his time within his physical limitation.
4 years later, he's finally able to get back on his feet and job hunting. He doesn't want to dive into the musical theatre industry anymore. With Degree of Theatre and Film his hand, he's quite clueless with what he can do with his career. Thankfully his family introduces him to their friend. That's when he found himself applying for a substitute teacher at the royal high.
He hopes he can be something useful in his life... At least help the younger generation to achieve their dreams since he has to stop his.

As a teacher, he's carefree and friendly man who prefers to treat his students as his friends and even encourage his students to call him 'hyung'.
He has the habit of warming up his voice. Despite being retired as a musical actor, he doesn't want to lose his gift and talent as a singer.

If it's not obvious enough, Yongguk was the heir to a yakuza group. He was the fruit of the forbidden love between the group master and a Korean e. When that love was known, the elders of the family sent a hitman to clean his mother up, but once she was known to be pregnant with Yongguk, the family brought her in. But that doesn't mean she was treated well. No word can describe her suffering and discrimination.
Fortunately, she was given the chance to be with her son and spent time with him. His so-called father was powerless before the family's elders. Yongguk's mother gave him the name Bang Yongguk. And the family gave him the name "Yamazaki" with the meaning "Traitor".
The elders gave him that name to shame him and his mother of his father's traitorous act of staining their pure bloodline with korean's blood. Despite that, they didn't kill Yamazaki because he still has the family's blood. As he grew older he understands more and more about his family's situation and his mother's suffering. Which brew his hate for his 'family' but he holds himself back for the sake of his mother.
Until one day, Yongguk came home from his high school, only to know his mother is killed and her body was fed to the dogs. The reason? She no longer has any use for the family since Yamazaki already grew up well to be a fine man. Traumatized and seething with fury, Yongguk grabbed a katana and end the family's proud bloodline.

The 18-year-old boy went to hide and seek refuge in the underground society with few connections he trusts. There, he ventures more on his hobby of writing poems and rapping to cheer his mother, into a solid career of a rapper in rap battles. He lives quite a peaceful life there for 6 years. As peaceful as it could be. Until the rumors of the killer of a yakuza family live there spread like wildfire. Yongguk flee to South Korea for his life.
With little money he has and the only clothes he has on his back, he tries to earn some by busking on the side of the road. He gathered quite a crowd with his flow and own lyrics. A large crowd in fact, to the point the public called the police to help control the crowd.
That was when the people from Indigo approach him to recruit him. And the rest is history...
You see... Yongguk/Yamazaki is not a bad person. He was just pushed to the corner so bad he flipped out. He's a pure boy who doesn't do drugs or any harmful sustenances, his only addiction from when he was a child till now is strawberry milk yogurt. He's a shy and awkward cinnamon roll who cares for other people's wellbeing.
In this life, he strives for freedom and enjoys every little thing life could offer... Be the Rapper which his late mother wishes to see him be...
