If you're an American citizen and over 18....
It's super important that we get our voices out there because we can make a difference in the upcoming election! Especially if you're really passionate about the state that the country is in and also who the next president is. It's really easy, in a lot of states you can just register online and they should send you a voter ID card! No matter who you end up voting for, it's important to get your voice in the mix because it is your future everyone will soon be voting for.
That being said,
I want to talk about one of my favorite candidates specifically in the Democratic primary.
He has 130+ policies on his website.
He has policies related to gun control, climate change, data privacy, corruption, and more.
His catchphrase is Not Left, Not Right, but Forward. His focus: human centered capitalism.
His name is ANDREW YANG.
If you don't know who he is yet, go ahead and Google him! I'll also give a run down on his flagship platform UBI, or The Freedom Dividend. This was an idea that was championed by Republicans, endorsed by economists, and even championed by Martin Luther King Jr.
The premise? 1000 dollars a month no strings attached to every American citizen over 18 for the rest of their life.
But it always comes up that people ask, how is this program going to get paid for?
1. He plans to implement a 10 percent VAT with it. A VAT is known for being regressive but complimented with the UBI, your taxes will not go up unless you spend more than 120,000 dollars a year. So that's extra income for your pockets. This 10 percent VAT is half the level it is for Europeans.
2. There's a lot of redundancy in the social security program, and this in general would cut down on it if people decide to opt in over it if it is more beneficial than their current benefits.
3. This would effective tax the top earners of the economy like Amazon, who paid zero dollars in income tax last year.
4. This would put money into the hands of the American people. That means more money that go into local economies, stimulating our overall economy to give massive money back.
Now what are the benefits? For the average people, it puts money in their hands. Money so they don't have to worry about a month of rent or whatnot, money so they are able to find a job that they are passionate about without having to worry too much about putting food on the table in the process. For businesses, it means a form of stimulus to the economy, a way for small businesses to not having to worry about not paying their workers as the minimum wage costs go up. It also encourages competition, mobility, and more. For people who are stuck where they are it gives them the means to move. For stay at home mothers it rewards what they are doing. And if some landlords decide that 1000 dollars a month is enough to cause them to raise their rent it gives the people the power to move. To say "no thanks, I'll go somewhere else."
Andrew Yang's platform is about empowering the people. It's human centered capitalism.
Please take a look into him!
Happy to answer any questions.
TLDR: Go vote, look at Andrew Yang cause he's pretty awesome.
