hot take: lofi hip-hop/"chillhop" is very very boring

or it has gotten boring. i'm not sure which one it is yet

i've been into lofi for quite some years now - i found it through youtube and looked for more of it on soundcloud. i'm not exactly sure HOW i found it or when, but it has become such a big genre of music and such a meme at this point. i've been able to find lofi edits of just about everything

now is lofi b a d ? no, i'm not shaming anyone who listens to it. heck, i'm listening to it as i write this blog. it helps with writing and reading for me, and with quite a few people with studying/homework (not me personally, i like listening to really hype songs, i get sleepy with lofi). 

but lofi is incredibly boring.

in the recent years after getting into lofi, i've gotten into future funk and vaporwave. i honestly think i got into vaporwave first but i'm not sure. now the lofi i mostly listen to is lofi edits of things (like the avatar one above). i listen to nintendo, avatar, other anime things. but why?

because i find it easily discernible when people do remixes of already existing songs or samples. it's easier to pick out a song than with standard lofi

when listening to lofi, how often do you go "oh, i like this song. lemme add it to my playlist". i hardly ever do that- i only do if it has a sample that i like (ie. avatar, minecraft, or it is using a tune/melody from an already existing song like an exo song or smthn). 

i've honestly been kinda bored of lofi. i just put it in the background when i wanna have some music but i don't wanna think too much about it. lofi became that easy listening jazz that you just hear in elevators or restaurants or smthn.

are we gonna get a la la land but with lofi? lmao

idk why i made this blog. i just find lofi so boring these days and i just wanna see if anyone else agrees bc despite how boring it is, it's still quite popular. i just feel a little iffy about it bc idk if the artists are really putting much thought into the music they create or it's just so generic i feel bad for not caring who the artist is 90% of the time.

what are your thoughts? do you think it's boring or do you just not care?
