the kingdom of guri
description:
legend has it, the god of the amnok river by the name of habaek had a daughter named yuhwa. she was renown for her beauty and sought after by many. in the end, the king of buyeo (an ancient korean kingdom) won her hand in marriage and wanted her to bear his child. soon enough, lady yuhwa became pregnant, but instead of giving birth to a child she laid an egg. outraged by such blasphemy, her husband tried to destory the egg by feeding it to the animals. however, once he saw that the livestock had started protecting the egg from harm he realized that he had made a grave mistake. lady yuhwa soon was reunited with the egg from which a young healthy boy came out of soon after. and his name was jumong (meaning “skilled archer”). this blessed child would grow up to become a threat to his older brothers for the throne and was chased out of the kingdom of buyeo. and his brothers were right in the sense that jumong was fit to be a king because he would later become the founding monarch of his own kingdom which we now know today as guri.
*disclaimer - the legend above is the actual myth of how the kingdom goguryeo came to be; the kingdom that guri is based off of.
