Based on this character: The Heir

And connected to this drabble: Inhale.

If he heard it one more time, had one more person blame him for everything going down within the families, there was no telling what he would do. Soobin was walking a very thin rope, teetering between sanity and insanity and it was beginning to feel like everyone wanted him to fall off into the deep end. It’s like they wanted to see him break. Someone always calm, quiet and collected, being as young as all the heirs were and yet being one of most mature of them. Possibly the most entirely. He held and gave objective points of view for everything they needed to cover. He was the level-headed one.

“I’m losing men because of you and your ing family, Soobin!”

He slams a hand down on the table and the room silences. He wasn’t aware just how many voices, how much murmuring, had erupted within the room over the past however much time had just gone by. Soobin drew his hand back and folded both of them together in his lap.

“My fault,” he spoke slowly, empty gaze focused on the table in front of him, “It’s all my fault…”

He pauses and tilts his head to the side, a slow movement as if he’s contemplating, which he is. It’s what he always does. Rarely does he ever speak without processing and rationalizing his next move. He’s always spoken with purpose, intention, even stayed silent for the same reason. No matter his internal conflict, he wouldn’t let it outweigh his better judgement if he could help it.

“If my moral compass were to tip,” he speaks slowly, gaze still locked on their meeting table at nothing in particular, “Just tip a bit in the wrong direction, this city… this country could be mine and not one of you could stop me.”

“Is that a threat!?” One of the other heirs stands up, glaring at him.

He raises his gaze and gives a lopsided smirk, “It’s the truth. None of you lifted a finger to help hunt down our common enemy, didn’t bat an eye at the deaths of your men, so don’t pretend you care now. You had moles within your own families and you didn’t care. Death knocked on the door and lurked in every possible corner but you cowered and asked for updates. Updates! How exactly do you think you’d be able to stop someone that knows you, all of you, all of your families, from the inside out? You really think you could stop me?”

“Soobin-” Keonhee’s voice comes from a corner of the room, Soobin isn’t sure where but he doesn’t look at him and just ignores the plea instead.

“Tell me,” Soobin stands slowly, his hands in his pants pockets, hidden a bit by his trench coat, “Do you really think you could take me down if I were to rip everything you heirs know from right under your feet? You keep wanting to blame me, as if I wanted it to happen. Do you think you’d all still be sitting here scratch-free, completely unscathed? Do you think you’d be sitting here at all if I wanted to overthrow everyone?”

Keonhee comes over and grabs his arm. They make eye contact for a moment before Soobin pulls his arm away, walking away from the table toward the door. He stops there though and looks over his shoulder at the others.

“If I really became the bad guy, there’s no way in hell any of you would hold out against me. And you’re making me question just whose side I should be on. Don’t keep pushing me, or you’ll regret it.”

Keonhee guides his boss out of the room and quickly bows his head in apology for Soobin’s outburst before following him out of the room and rushing him down the hall. He isn’t sure what’s happened but this isn’t like Soobin at all.
