Maybe You Ought (to be a) Bender.
not even sponsored by the rp, i gain nothing from this BUT perhaps more connections. been seeing a couple of blogs here and there about fantasy rps, or rps with new ideas. personally, i think when seeing 'atla inspired' some were quick to assume it was another recycled au idea being put together by pretty aesthetics and nothing more. but i am here to prove you wrong.
with the steadily growing community pyeogyo has become, i implore you to check out the full extent of its lore and upcoming events. might be burdensome for you to read through all the documents filled with details of each nation, each kingdom, the peace treaties and goddesses, celestial beings and mythical creatures involved (although i highly recommend it because each document is BEAUTIFULLY written with super descriptive paragraphs of elemental skills, history and culture, landscapes descriptors to envision the nation you live in, etc.), so i'll help you guys out :)
pyeogyo is loosely based off ATLA. and i stress on the word loosely as the only thing ATLA related is the four elemental nations and benders. and perhaps the sky bisons (imagine appa yip yip delivering your mails and parcels for you.)
1,000 years ago, after the rise of the innate greed of mankind to rule over the pyeogyo kingdom, a celestial being, Dal, inflicted her wrath across the nations before uniting the four tribes under a peace treaty, with a votary "The Heavenly Disciples"-- Yeongdeung, Jowangshin, Yongwang, Teojushin to oversee whether or not each nation abides to the said contract. alongside the votary, four royal families were appointed per nation: Chois (air), Ryeos (fire), Shins (water), and Yoons (earth). and with that, Dal disappeared, never to be seen or heard of again.
the royal families thrived off a matriarchal system and each nation flourished under the care and ruling of the goddesses, queens and royal cabinets. fear not, royals are not the only ones involved. each citizen plays a very important role in the progression and plot line of pyeogyo. non-benders included! (we highly encourage more) the royal family urges for no discrimination against benders and non-benders alike, similar to how they encourage camaraderie between nations. for hundreds of years, the citizens lived in harmony amongst one another.
until the discovery of long-forgotten scriptures excavated from the grounds of the Earth nation:
One spoke of fate that ᴅᴇsᴇᴄʀᴀᴛᴇs ᴘᴇᴀᴄᴇ.
One spoke of ɢʀᴇᴇᴅ painting the darkest, haunting of red.
One spoke of a ᴘʀᴀʏᴇʀ to turn back the wheels of time.
Yet only one knows that within all these trepidations — ɢʀᴇᴇᴅ ᴅᴇsᴇᴄʀᴀᴛᴇs ᴀ ᴘʀᴀʏᴇʀ ᴏғ ᴘᴇᴀᴄᴇ — and the pages held by the revelation upon them held a destiny so eerily cold.If one succeeds in conquering all four nations, they emerge as the sole bearer of an all encompassing power. Ruler of Pyeogyo. Master of all elements.
⤷ now to answer SOME questions (or head over to the faq):
1) is the entire pyeogyo universe consisting of Korea only? no, not quite. for visualisation purposes, the pyeogyo kingdom itself is the entirety of korea (north and south). however, other neighboring countries still exist hence you may integrate those into your oc's background! (studying abroad, business trip, etc.)
2) what year does the current timeline take place in? we only backdate time for threads or plotlines but the current events are taking place in present day! (august, 2023)
3) are benders only found in pyeogyo kingdom? nope. the rest of the world has them too. however, for the sole purpose of the rp, oc's are only based within pyeogyo and only korean descents are allowed (half koreans fcs are allowed!)
4) can you bend more than one element? no. you can have parents of different elements, but the offspring only inherits one element.
5) is the rp simply a royal au? most definitely not. you want romance? we got romance but it sure isn't focused on solely that! you want arranged marriages? we got that too, some under the premise of political marriage of convenience between nations. you want antagonists? we have various degrees of chaotic-evil/neutral characters brewing their villain arc with the rise of pyeogyo's prologue. you want war? we most definitely will have that. and we expect there to be multiple sparring and combat threads! you want a slice of life? angst? tragedy? comedic plots? we got those too :))
6) how much freedom do you have to build your oc? honestly, i've never gotten more creative freedom before. of course, we have bg checks by the goddesses (admins) to ensure no oc is too op or their bg strays too far from the lore as to not alter the foundation that pyeogyo is built upon. but everything else is game. we have informants, we have knights experimenting upon non-benders to awaken their powers, we have people plotting to uncover the myth of blood benders, we have pirates sailing pyeogyo's seas, and tour guides that scam citizens of other nations for a living, you name it.
although advertised as a modern royal au, there's so many other careers to explore besides being of blue blooded origin. and we definitely have room for more! air nation still has a slot for one more prince! multiple slots available left for knights and royal ministers. join and be a part of the lore. become the hero of your people, or the villain who unearths forbidden secrets and disrupts the peace dal has set.
i am loving the rise of aus lately, and it's great to see some au's being inspired by pyeogyo's lore and events but why don't you come find out more of this unraveling story for yourself? you'd be just in time for the highly anticipated war!
+++ have you seen the aesthetics of this place? the amount of effort put into the profiles, the rooms the GIFs and promotional posters alone absolutely floored me. we have so many creative muns swarming this place, and you'd be a wonderful addition.
