Hey, y'all! Back at it again with a random update on Nuvo Records. If you have no idea what that is, you can check this blog and this blog if you're curious about the rp. This blog, however, is a breakdown of things concerning the RP. Read below to read up on it, and feel free to ask any questions that may come up regarding them. I'll be posting more updates as I can, but I thought this update would help with the general idea of the RP. Below is also the species overview in the second layout shared here.

nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 I'm too lazy to read all the species info. What's the TLDR so I can stay up to date?
So, long story short, think of things this way: we have two made up races that are called "the fallen" and "arbiters" in the RP. The fallen are humans who died sometime between 1600-1989 and are competing or just fighting for their chance at fame in order to become human again. When they revive, they revive as a ghoul or a vampire-like being that has to literally feed on humans in order to stay alive and healthy, and they have to feed on popularity to stay alive and have enough of a following to where they'd be missed and remembered.

Arbiters are the handlers of sorts for the fallen. They will be monitoring their own specific fallen so that they can report back to their headquarters and the rulers of a place called the Upper Sanctum who grant their assigned fallen their human rights again, basically. Think of them as a manager, but they don't have to be a manager and can just be a member of the same group as a fallen or something.

Outside of those two races, we have humans who get caught up in the middle of this mix. They pretty much serve as a neutral party but also as a determining factor in whether or not fallen get their human rights. That's the basic summary.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 How come muses get revived as fallen?
They get revived as the fallen because they had immense negativity or guilt when they initially died. This negativity usually ties to a cardinal sin, but this can also come from intense feelings of despair or guilt. That feeling can carry over into their afterlife and drive them as they progress. The sooner they can appease the sense of dread/redeem themselves from the sin they're attached to, the sooner they can get another chance at life and live peacefully.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 Why do some of our muses deserve another chance at life?
That is up to the roleplayer to decide. Maybe your muse died too soon and wants to try living again. Maybe your muse wants revenge. Maybe your muse has other goals they can only achieve as a human. It is up to you what you want to do with your muse.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 Do our muses have special powers as fallen or arbiters?
No, they do not outside of the general strength and sense increase that fallen have. The fallen's physical condition will be stronger, they'll be able to jump higher, etc. but fallen in this RP are closer to zombies or vampires and do not have any special powers outside of those listed in the species page. Arbiters, however, do have a few extra skills and abilities they can use to help them with caring for a fallen. For more information on the fallen and arbiters, and how they work in the RP, see the "Species" page.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 If my muse was born a long time ago, would they look their age or be the age they died at?
Yes, they will look and be however old they were when they died. Remember that no muse is born past 1600 and can't be born after 1989 IC. They also still age just like they used to the moment they are revived.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 If the goal is for fallen to become humans, what happens when they reach that goal?
So, spoiler alert, fallen cannot return to the same human form they once had. What we mean by that is that they'll still technically be a fallen, but they'll have the appearance and the body of a human so long as they keep a positive light shining on them and once they reach stardom status. They won't be reborn, but with the new life they set up under their identity as an idol, they'll be able to do whatever as long as they maintain public favor. Should they end up wanting to leave the entertainment industry, they can do so, but only after establishing a good name for themselves and bowing out of the industry like in the real world.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 Why the fallen as idols?
The leaders of the Upper Sanctum wanted to make earning the right to be human more interesting. They thought it would be more challenging to pass as a fallen and idol than just trying to assimilate into human society as a commoner. Plus, they wanted the revived beings to serve as literal entertainers. Call it a chaotic whim.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 Wait, so what are arbiters for and how do they work?
Think of arbiters as personal handlers for the Fallen. They will monitor their own specific fallen so that they can report back to their lil headquarters place called the Upper Sanctum and grant their assigned fallen their human rights again, basically. Think of them as a manager, but they don't have to be a manager and can just be a member of the same group as a fallen or something. For more information on arbiters, please see the "Species" room.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 How do I get assigned an arbiter?
You can roll in the "Assignments" room to randomly be assigned an arbiter. If push comes to shove, we'll have multiple fallen under a specific arbiter's wing.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 What are insignias?
Insignias are invisible tattoos that only show to an arbiter and their specific fallen. They are what link them together and serve as a sort of mark of possession or branding for both the arbiter and the fallen. These can be anywhere on the body.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 Why do fallen need to feed on humans or drink their blood?
Fallen need human blood or meat to boost their appearance and take on human characteristics. The saying "you are what you eat" applies here, so the more they feed on humans, the more they'll become like them. There are things like hunger pills and glamours that will help them look more human and go without feeding, but fallen look ghoulish and scary by nature. If they don't do what they're supposed to, they'll stay looking like scary and have more problems trying to blend in or pass for humans.

Similar to the anime Tokyo Ghoul, specialized cafés also serve fallen the meat and blood of abandoned human corpses. Fallen must come after hours and not feed on the establishments' customers. These places exist for fallen who have difficulty hunting or feel off about the practice.
nuvohq asked:
*˚✦。 How important are human muses and how do they come into play?
Very important! Obviously, we'll need arbiters and fallen muses, but we'll also need human muses to balance everything out. Ways they can do that, just to give some examples, are if they give blood to a fallen or if they assist an arbiter in vouching for a fallen who wants their human rights back. Humans can also serve as descendants of a fallen or have ties to a specific fallen or arbiter in some way. There are many possibilities for human muses, so I do encourage people to take up human muses as well!

✦ About Arbiters
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Arbiters (some of the muses in this RP) are either born in a realm called the Upper Sanctum or are former humans that passed away either after something great or by carrying a positive attitude with them into the afterlife. This great deed they've done is usually done for the benefit of someone else and is recognized by the rulers of the Upper Sanctum as worthy of allowing them a second chance at life. If they are born in the Upper Sanctum, they've lived most of their life similarly to a human, but they don't struggle and have to deal with obstacles nearly as much as humans, which can make supporting the fallen a little difficult at times. Despite this, the arbiters are naturally supportive assistants to both the Upper Sanctum's rulers and the fallen. They are people who seem to be born to help others and find immense pleasure in doing so.

For arbiters, their role is a little different from the fallen. Instead of achieving fame and public favor, they are tasked with helping the fallen achieve their goals and protecting the peace and balance of the world. They help to regulate the amount of fallen who are chosen for selection and keep safe watch over specific individuals they are assigned to. Speaking of—

When joining the company, every arbiter is assigned a position and fallen to look after. The same rules apply for them being chosen by the rulers to take on this mission. Any person born between the years 1600 and 1989 are still eligible to apply.
LIFE AS AN ARBITER
Whether they were born to be an arbiter or were revived as one, spirits who become them originate from a place called the Upper Sanctum. It is the headquarters of the rulers and deciders of everyone's fate. Life there is peaceful and simple, and no one who has lived their complains or wants for anything. It isn't until they are assigned the role of arbiter that they will relate to humans more.

Before they are revived or just assigned the role of arbiter, these individuals are given knowledge about their assigned fallen's past. This is to help the both of them assume new identities and keep them believable to unsuspecting humans. Arbiters are also given new abilities to help them with caring for their fallen companions. These powers are as follows:
  • Invisibility & Phasing.
  • Telepathic Linking. (to their assigned fallen)
  • Force Field Generation.
  • Energy/Aura Manipulation: to make things alive. It is useful for their assigned fallen and gives them a slight boost. Works better with physical touch as well.
  • Spatial Manipulation: Manipulating space around them. Works in tandem with their force fields and can block out sound.
APPEARANCE & DIET
Arbiters are beautiful beings. As far as looks go, they have a small variety of characteristics that are as follows:

CROWN TYPES: Every arbiter has a crown floating above their head in their arbiter form. These crowns are usually small and on one side of their head, left or right. The specific type of crown they possess can be rigid (like in this picture) or round (like a coronation crown).
WING TYPES & POSITIONS: Every arbiter has a pair of small wings. Wings can be on their head, shoulders, hips, or ankles. These wings are also white in color, but the tips of their feathers have a slight and very light pastel color to them.
HAIR COLORS: Much like with their wings, their hair colors are naturally like a platinum white or silver color, but they also have a gradient that leads into a soft or muted/dusty version of a color.
EYE COLORS: Gold, green, or blue.
EAR TYPES: Elven, half-elven.
INSIGNIA: Insignias are invisible brand marks that represent a link or bond that lies between a fallen and an arbiter. The look of it depends on the specific fallen that others are assigned to.

In order to appear human and maintain their human appearance, they must use magical items called glamors. Glamors can come in all shapes, types and sizes. They can be runes, jewelry, magic/invisible tattoos, etc. and they help to boost the arbiter's beauty and charm.

Almost all arbiters are vegetarians and pescatarians and they tend to have sweet tooths. They cannot handle any meats outside of fish meat. The specific way they eat is through absorption, and seldom do they eat with their mouths unless in the presence of humans. Arbiters also are supposed to eat at least three special crystals called "arbitite" a day if they want to stay healthy and more human. They can grind it up and mix arbitite in their human food if they really need to.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Arbiters have higher physical capabilities and are typically four to seven times stronger than the average human. They are also more physically resistant to illness, infections, and injuries, though strong kinetic forces (like getting hit by a car or falling from a great height) can still harm them. These resistances gradually lessen the longer they're on earth.

Arbiters also have a higher regenerative ability. Most minor injuries will vanish within a few hours or even minutes, and a few days or so for more severe injuries as long as they have an adequate food supply. If they suffer massive and fatal trauma before their regenerative abilities kick in, they will die.

Senses for arbiters are a lot keener than for humans. So much so that they can determine humans and fallen from arbiters just based on their smell, the weight of their footsteps, the feel of their skin/presence, etc. Naturally, this starts to lessen with time and progression as well.
  • Once revived as an arbiter, individuals will start to age again and at the same rate as humans.
  • When angry, or sometimes at will, their eyes will turn their arbiter color, so it is recommended that fallen wear contacts.
WEAKNESSES
Things that will kill an arbiter:
  • Fatal or severe wounds sustained before regenerative abilities kick in.
  • Decapitation or being shot in the head.
  • Cursed blood. (Considered a common poison to them.)
  • Fallen blood. (Will burn through them like acid.)
  • Not eating arbitite. (This will not only make them weak, but their bodies will start to eat at themselves after a certain amount of time.)
Things that will wound an arbiter, but not kill them:
  • Cursed items. (These will burn them, but not kill them.)
  • Gunshot and knife wounds. (As long as their head remains attached and okay, they won’t die.)
  • Their past.
  • Getting no sleep. (Arbiters generally need less, but the longer they’re awake, the hungrier they get.)
✦ About the Fallen
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Fallen (some of the muses in this RP) are former humans that died and carried an intense negative feeling with them into the afterlife. These negative feelings are usually tied to a cardinal sin or an intense feeling of despair or guilt, and make their afterlife incredibly uncomfortable. Fallen are not afforded the benefit of inner peace for as long as they are fallen, experiencing an unbearable itch or pain that eventually manifests into something physical and eats away at them. The only way to appease the feeling is to earn back their humanity through Nuvo Records. If they can successfully earn both the rulers of Upper Sanctum’s favor and human public favor, they’ll satisfy whatever feeling turned them into a fallen and be granted another chance at living a human life… If they’re even chosen for revival.

In order to join the company, every fallen must apply and be chosen by the rulers as a worthy candidate for their entertainment and the company. Any person born between the years 1600 and 1989 are eligible to apply. Most fallen who get in are the ones that have the potential to take incredible risks out of severe desperation, but also be able to keep the rulers on their toes/keep them interested in what they’ll do with their life. Every fallen muse in the RP will have been chosen because they meet this criteria. They must be motivated and do their best if they want to stay chosen.
LIFE AS A FALLEN
Before they are revived, fallen are stripped of most memories that involve people who are still living and events that they’re directly tied to. This is to help them assume new identities and keep them believable. The more they start to remember about themselves, the more they suffer. And if they hear their past name or see anything that reminds them of their past, they’ll experience intense pain in their chest and lose control of themselves until they either pass out, fall asleep, or are forcibly incapacitated.

When a fallen begins working toward being human, they start to lose that unbearably itchy or painful feeling. It’ll lessen even more if they redeem themselves for their sin, but not every fallen knows what theirs is. Some fallen have more difficulty doing so because the memories tied to this are erased, but as long as they keep at their main goal (becoming human), they’ll be fine.
APPEARANCE & DIET
The Fallen are monstrous beings. As far as looks go, they have a small variety of characteristics that are as follows:

SKIN TYPES:
Zombie — pale green-ish skin with patches either missing or filled in with other pieces of skin.
Vampire — paler or ivory skin (for the fairer skinned folks) that's very thick and rough; also has a slight glow to it.
Ghoul — pale grey-ish with missing patches/patches of other skin like the zombie but thicker like the vampire skin.
EYE COLORS: Yellow, amber, or red.
HAIR COLORS: They go from a dark to light gradient, usually their natural hair color to another color. The deeper the negative feeling when they died, the darker their hair will be.
EAR TYPES: Elven, half-elven.
FANG & CLAW TYPES: Sharp and rigid, dull and smooth.
INSIGNIA: Insignias are invisible brand marks that represent a link or bond that lies between a fallen and an arbiter. The look of it depends on the specific arbiter that others are assigned to.

In order to appear human and maintain their human appearance, they must feed on humans (both their bodies and their blood are acceptable) and use magical items called glamors. Glamors can come in all shapes, types and sizes. They can be runes, jewelry, magic/invisible tattoos, etc. and they help to boost the fallen's beauty and charm.

Many fallen are initially opposed to the idea of feeding or struggle with it, so they often resort to use of glamors only, eating human food, and refusing to feed. Those that don’t feed on humans will suffer extreme headaches and be physically/mentally weakened to the point where they’ll revert to their fiendish instincts anyway. They will eventually feed on any human and sometimes other fallen, even those they consider close to them.

If a fallen attempts to eat human food, they’ll become physically ill. They’re able to drink water and coffee, or eat coffee beans, but nothing else. They can also fake eating real food for appearances, but they have to build their tolerance for it because eating it will make them throw up and degrade their physical condition.

Fallen need to eat somewhat often until they can build up a tolerance, or they can purchase hunger pills. New fallen with no money and experience must feed at least every other day and will be assisted with obtaining sustenance, but older ghouls that are closer to humans will need to eat once every one or two months. Because of how much they need to feed, and just as a precaution in general, humans are not allowed to work in certain parts of the company and are closely monitored at all times.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Fallen have higher physical capabilities and are typically four to seven times stronger than the average human. They are also more physically resistant to illness, infections, and injuries, though strong kinetic forces (like getting hit by a car or falling from a great height) can still harm them. These resistances gradually lessen the closer they become to human.

Fallen also have a higher regenerative ability. Most minor injuries will vanish within a few hours or even minutes, and a few days or so for more severe injuries as long as they have an adequate food supply. If they suffer massive and fatal trauma before their regenerative abilities kick in, they will die.

Senses for fallen are a lot keener than for humans and arbiters. So much so that they can determine humans and arbiters from fallen just based on their smell, the weight of their footsteps, the feel of their skin/presence, etc. Naturally, this starts to lessen with time and progression as well.
  • Once revived as a fallen, individuals will start to age again and at the same rate as humans.
  • When hungry, or sometimes at will, their eyes will turn their fallen color, so it is recommended that fallen wear contacts.
WEAKNESSES
Things that will kill a fallen:
  • Eating too much human food. (If done, they will be incredibly sick and weaken their physical condition to the point of death.)
  • Fatal or severe wounds sustained before regenerative abilities kick in.
  • Decapitation or being shot in the head.
  • Wisteria, vervain, and citrus. (They are allergic and too much will make them break out in hives, swell up, and go into anaphylactic shock.)
  • Purified blood. (Considered a common poison made by churches.)
  • Holy water. (Will burn through them like acid.)
  • Fire.
  • Old meat and old blood. (These can make them incredibly sick and weaken them to the point of death as well.)
  • Not feeding. (This will not only make them weak and revert to instinct, but their bodies will start to eat at themselves after a certain amount of time.)
Things that will wound a fallen, but not kill them:
  • Holy items. (These will burn them, but not kill them.)
  • Gunshot and knife wounds. (As long as their head remains attached and okay, they won’t die.)
  • Human food.
  • Wisteria, vervain, and citrus.
  • Their past.
  • Getting no sleep. (Fallen generally need less, but the longer they’re awake, the hungrier they get.)
✦ ABOUT HUMANS
As of now, there isn't anything remarkable to note about humans, but we do encourage people to apply as them because we would love to see the variety!
