Ilhwa is so interconnected and it is so interesting to see all of the different connections between the citizens, families, classes, etc. The admins here work overtime, I swear. name: hwang mijoo

occupation: musician

hwang mijoo was born in 1844 to hwang younghyun and his wife mirae and is the youngest of two daughters. mijoo grew up loving the arts, specifically music. she loved singing and she enjoyed listening to the various musicians that her father would invite to perform at their events. when mijoo was 10 years old, she convinced her father to allow her to learn to play the geomungo (hyeongeum), and he hired a teacher for her. she was a natural talent, some would even consider her a prodigy. when she was comfortable enough with the hyeongeum and had learned nearly everything she could from her teacher, she moved on to learn the piri. 

in 1864, shortly after her debut into society, her father became ill and quickly passed away. unable to focus on the possibility of finding a suitor while grieving, she stopped attending social events and her family went into mourning. after her father’s passing and when their family fell from grace, her mother and sister opened a seamstress shop. despite liking needlework, she was never as talented at it as her older sister, so she began to look for other ways to help her family survive. despite her mother selling off a lot of their expensive belongings in the beginning of their downfall from grace, she had not sold off mijoo’s instruments. and thus, mijoo began performing music and singing in public to earn extra mun.

- previous suitor: a man that had been interested in mijoo during her debut season, before she stopped attending events. she was friendly with him, but her heart belonged to someone else. when this potential suitor proposed to her, she respectfully rejected the proposal as she was unable to forget her first love.

occupation: owner of the teahouse, secret physician for the lower classes

- patients: male or female, people that come to jinhee for her services as a physician, whether they are feeling unwell or have an injury, etc.

- teahouse regular customer: male or female, a client that frequents the teahouse often enough that jinhee is familiar with them. the connection can be developed more to decide if it is positive or negative.
