"The cradle rocks above an abyss, and common sense tells us that our existence is but a brief crack of light between two eternities of darkness."
In a world far from known civilization, where the sky is darkened and oceans descend into endless depths, lies The Abyss. This isolated realm is steeped in abyssal magic, a powerful and dangerous force drawn from the deepest shadows of the world. Those who wield abyssal magic are known as Shadow Casters—mystics, warriors, and outcasts who channel the magic of the dark.

At the heart of this world, two cities stand in stark contrast: The High City of Solace and The Fallen City of Nocturne. Separated by jagged mountains and barren lands, they are bound together by ancient conflict and an uneasy alliance, each hiding secrets that may be key to survival—or to plunging everything into ruin.

  1. The High City of Solace Description: Solace is a dazzling city on a mountain’s edge, known for its gleaming architecture and advanced magical practices. This city is a haven for those who seek refuge from the abyssal powers, where magic is heavily regulated and focused on healing, creation, and the light arts. It’s ruled by an elite council of sages who enforce strict rules against the use of abyssal magic.

Culture: Known for its beauty, Solace is also notorious for its control, where any sign of abyssal influence is met with swift punishment. Those gifted with abyssal magic are often sent into exile or monitored closely, fostering tension among those who feel the city’s policies are oppressive.

Role in the Abyss: Solace stands as the “good” city, representing order and light, yet its rigid structure makes it vulnerable to rebellion from within.

  2. The Fallen City of Nocturne Description: Nocturne is an eerie, sprawling city that clings to the edge of the Abyss, where darkness flows like a river. It’s home to outcasts, rogues, and those who have embraced the powers of the abyss, using it for personal gain and to survive in a harsh world. Ruled by a council of powerful Shadow Casters, it’s a city of freedom, but at a great cost.

Culture: Chaos reigns in Nocturne, where abyssal magic is woven into daily life. People here are strong, resilient, and deeply distrusting of outsiders. Dragon riders—known as Abyssal Riders—defend the city and are celebrated as protectors of freedom.

Role in the Abyss: The “bad” city, Nocturne represents darkness and chaos but offers a refuge for those who reject the restrictions of Solace. It’s a place where power is respected, and survival is a constant challenge.

"It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure."
Dragon Riders and the Abyssal Riders Guild

Dragons: The dragon riders of this world bond with powerful creatures that are sensitive to abyssal magic. Dragons come in various breeds—some attuned to the light and others to shadow. The relationship between rider and dragon is intense, requiring both skill and mutual respect.

The Abyssal Riders Guild: Located in Nocturne, this guild is the center of all dragon-rider training, offering refuge to riders from both cities. Abyssal Riders are particularly skilled in combat and patrol the borders of the Abyss to protect Nocturne. A small faction of the guild remains in Solace, though these riders are bound by stricter rules.

Magic System: Abyssal and Celestial Magic

Abyssal Magic:Drawn from the Abyss itself, abyssal magic is powerful, dangerous, and hard to control. It allows users to manipulate shadows, summon creatures of darkness, and gain enhanced vision at night. However, it comes with a price: prolonged use can lead to a loss of control, madness, or even transformation into shadow beasts.

Celestial Magic: The counterpart to abyssal magic, celestial magic is a rarer form of power held by a select few in Solace. It allows users to create light shields, heal others, and even purify abyssal curses. Celestial magic is heavily restricted to prevent misuse, and its users are revered as “Celestials.”

Factions and Roles Preview
The Sages of Solace: Leaders in Solace who regulate celestial magic and guard the city’s secrets. They oppose abyssal magic but are rumored to have their own hidden connections to the dark arts.

The Abyssal Riders: The most skilled dragon riders, both feared and respected, who protect Nocturne and live by their own code. Known for their loyalty to Nocturne, they often clash with Solace’s Celestial Riders.

The Rogue Casters: Outlaws who practice abyssal magic freely, often without allegiance to either city. They live on the outskirts, exploring the depths of the Abyss for ancient artifacts and hidden powers.
Hooks and Storylines
The Unstable Alliance: Tension grows as Solace and Nocturne are forced to cooperate against a common threat from the depths of the Abyss—a powerful shadow creature that threatens to consume both cities. Characters from both cities are sent to form an alliance but find it nearly impossible to work together.

The Search for the Abyssal Gem: Rumors of a powerful artifact that can control both celestial and abyssal magic send various factions into a desperate search, sparking conflict between Solace, Nocturne, and the Rogue Casters.

Forbidden Love Across Cities: Relationships between members of Solace and Nocturne are rare and often met with hostility. Two characters—an Abyssal Rider and a Celestial Mage—find themselves drawn to one another, forcing them to choose between loyalty to their cities and their own desires.
