Most of you are aware that EXO's music videos for Miracles in December has just come out and have been raving about it.
I didn't watch any of the teasers although I saw plenty of pictures and gifs on my tumblr dashboard to get the idea. I was expecting the song to be a grand let down. For example, MAMA and Wolf were a let down to me becuase the music was all over the place (especially Wolf) and really I could go and on and on about why I didn't like them. Although I will say now I do kind of like Wolf and MAMA due to their catchyness and hearing it everywhere, but it took me a long time to get their. I was personally a huge fan of History, and What is Love and Growl were good songs.
Seeing Miracles of December the harmony and melody of the song was absolutely sweet. And managed to get me swaying a little to the beat on the first time listening to it. For that reason I'm thinking this song was actually well made. Overall the feeling of the music and the colors and the music video matched really well.
However there were some disappointments.
First of all, I was like 'Where the flying flippers is Kyungsoo!?'. Considering its easy to notice that the vocalists were singing this song, it would be Kyungsoo, Luhan, Chen, and Baekhyun. But only the latter three were singing. In the korean version, Luhan was missing, but Kyungsoo was present. I would think it was because of the language maybe, but Luhan's korean is very good, and Kyungsoo's mandarin is okay (and knowing his dillengence he could pulled off memorization of the lyrics in mandarin). I think they should have let all four sing the song or have the two corresponding members from each unit sing (like in What Is Love) their version. They way they've set it up means Chen and Baekhyun have a ton of parts because they sing in both versions were Luhan and Kyungsoo seem to rotate making them seem interchangable which is not what a good vocalist wants to seem like.
The other big disappointment is that not all the members are singing. As I mentioned earlier, I did not watch the teasers nor did I really research any of the information that was let out about this song before the music video came out, so I'm not sure if was let known that only the vocalists would be singing. Either way, I would have loved to hear Suho's beautiful voice grace this song, or hear some soft-low tunes from Tao, Kris, and Chanyeol because they could have had a couple of lines with their voices.
So all in all the song was pretty good. But the disappointents had to with the members participation (whether it be cutting one vocalist out in the versions or not using all of the members).
If EXO is going to have these kind of distrubutions with the vocalists they might as well create a sub-unit with them or maybe a different group. I know thats not exactly what EXOtics want to hear, but its just my opinion considering how things are going.
