Guide to RolePlayRepublic

AFF has a sister site dedicated solely for roleplays called RoleplayRepublic. And this my version of a RoleplayRepublic Guide for newbies. I am not a roleplayer but I will do my best explaining how the site works.

Keeper would like to thank:

Boss Nichi for creating RoleplayRepublic.

FullMetalTitan for letting me use her roleplay for screen caps: ✦進撃の巨人|To You In A Thousand Years|Attack On Titan Roleplay✦|Open and Accepting! (It's OPEN and ACCEPTING characters. Rated M. GO APPLY NOW!)

conchobar/cunnian for answering my questions regarding RoleplayRepublic

PrincessKai of ㄱㅅㄱ ClickME {Helps with RoomPictures/IdolPictures/MasterList/ETC} for the list of CHARACTERS I used in creating the MASTERLIST

Why roleplay in RoleplayRepublic?

It is designed for roleplays so it has lots of functions available for admins and roleplayers. These features will be discussed later in this guide.

But before we go to that, let's get acquainted with the rules in RoleplayRepublic:

Let's move on!

Part 1: How to Create a Roleplay in RoleplayRepublic?

Creating a roleplay in RoleplayRepublic (RPR) is like creating a story in AFF.

1. Hit the Create Roleplay button located underneath the logo in the main header.

This will lead you to the Description and Rules section of the roleplay (RP). See how familiar the format is?

2. Show and tell what your RP is about in the Description. Be clear what the Do's and Don't's are in the Rules. Yes, you get to have extra rules set in your RP aside from RPR's main rules. You can also request for layouts for your Description and Rules and just customize the codes. And then fill in the spaces for the main and background images with the direct image url.

Tick the appropriate boxes and fill in the blanks with appropriate information, including the TAGS

It is pretty self-explanatory. But I would like to focus on the first section:

See those blue question marks inside brackets? Hover over them to read precious information.

But this is just an image so I am going to tell you one of the cool features RPR has for admins that is not available in AFF: Days Inactive.

What is Days Inactive?

It is defined as the "number of days since a character's last post until they are considered inactive". No need to check or tally the activity in their profiles or your RP every single day or week. The system will do the counting for you. And once this limit is reached, the inactive status will appear in your RP's Masterlist, like so:

The CHARACTER name is in bolded, blue text. And the roleplayer's username (main account) is written below.

With the Days Inactive feature, there is no need to post activity blog posts.

3. Once you've completed the Description and Rules page, click Save Changes . You will then have access to your Masterlist, which was mentioned above.

Follow the instructions. It says that you can create your CHARACTERS by typing your character names and separate them with a comma. Then hit Add Characters.

You can put each individual under a GROUP. Just click the Add Groups button:

And you will have something similar to the Add CHARACTERS box. But instead of CHARACTER names, you type GROUP names and separate them with a comma. Then click Add Groups.

Under each CHARACTER name, you'll find a drop-down selection menu. Select the GROUP the CHARACTER belongs to.

List of CHARACTER and GROUP names were copied from this list by PrincessKai of ㄱㅅㄱ ClickME {Helps with RoomPictures/IdolPictures/MasterList/ETC}. If you plan on using this list, make sure you delete the commas between Super and Junior and Teen and Top. Otherwise, you would have GROUPS named Super, Junior, Teen and Top.

Then you'll have something like this:

Click Edit below each CHARACTER to create their profiles. It's like the Edit Settings page. Provide the Characters Birthdate, Gender, Country, Region, Personal Message, Description and Display Picture. Or you can leave some fields blank and just let the roleplayer fill in the necessary information. Perhaps a brief description of the character should be provided by the admin if it's an alternate universe RP.

Save Character once you are done.

You can simply add more CHARACTERS and GROUPS via the Add Characters and Add Groups buttons in the Masterlist. The Add Characters button also appears in the right side panel.

To delete a CHARACTER, simply hit Delete below the CHARACTER name.

To delete a GROUP, go to the bottom of the page:

You can also re-assign a CHARACTER. If a roleplayer left or a roleplayer was banned, you don't have to delete the CHARACTER.

The Masterlist is a very efficient and organized way to keep track of all the characters the Admin created. It is not merely a list of characters and you can control everything about the CHARACTERS from here. It also shows interested roleplayers which characters are available for them.

4. A roleplay has four default sections: Description, Rules, Masterlist and Announcements. Instead of posting a blog or a new chapter, you make your announcement and every CHARACTER in your RP would be notified.

Click the green add link next to Announcements in the navigation list on the left side pannel.

And then fill in the TITLE and BODY of your announcement. Looks like a blog, actually.

5. Instead of chapters, RPR has rooms.

A room is basically a chatroom. You can designate a room for every part of the house, town, kingdom, etc. Adding a room, is like adding a chapter. Go ahead and click Add Room.

The format is the same as that of a chapter in AFF. You have the spaces for the TITLE and MAIN IMAGE, the text editor BODY and the settings.

If you disable room postings, no one is allowed to post inside that room.

Disable points and no one receives activity points for every post. Perhaps you should disable points for out-of-character rooms to avoid spams and encourage activity in the main rooms.

What are points?

It's the currency in RPR. You get one activity point for every post  your character makes. An admin can also gift points to fellow roleplayers. With it you can change your username. I've read in the RPR FAQ (aka How it Works) that in the future these points will definitely be used to purchase items.

The Online Now box in the right panel shows you how many points your character has.

The total number of points you have is in your main profile.

Admins can also have a private room for meetings and such.

Arrange the order of the Rooms via the Manage Room button in the left panel.

Example of a room: Stohess District from ✦進撃の巨人|To You In A Thousand Years|Attack On Titan Roleplay✦|

The roleplaying happens inside the ROOM. You can go back to past messages. No need to screencap, upload, copy and paste conversations.

6. Once a roleplayer sends an application, the admin or you would be notified.  Click it and you'll be directed to the application. If satisfied, click the button below that says Accept Application .

Another way to view applications is through a button in the right side panel that says View Applications.

I know there are other controls and buttons available for the admin. You just have to figure it out once you set up your roleplay.

Part 2: How to join a roleplay in RoleplayRepublic?

1. Browse through the existing roleplays, like you would stories in AFF - via the latest updated roleplays or tags.

2. Select one that is OPEN and ACCEPTING. The status of the RP is usually indicated in the title or the description.

3. Once you have selected one that you are interested in, favorite (RPRs term for subscribe), read the Description and follow their Rules. Take note of the application format the owner/admin specified.

4. Go to the Masterlist. Look for CHARACTERS in bold, green text.

Or simply, click the Open Characters tab to know which of the characters are still available. Click the CHARACTER name to view their profile. If interested, click the green link APPLY in the masterlist or click the Apply for Character button in the CHARACTER'S profile page.

5. It will lead you to the APPLICATION page. Fill in the form the roleplay admin specified in the Rules. Click Submit Application once you are done.

6. And then you wait.

7. Once the admin accepts you, you will get a notification. You can now customize your CHARACTER profile. This is my favorite. You don't have to create multiple profile accounts just to join multiple roleplays. You can have several CHARACTER profile accounts under your MAIN account.

8. You can now participate in the roleplay! Before you post in another character's wall or in a room, select your CHARACTER from the drop-down menu. If the admin allows you to have more than one CHARACTER in the RP, then this is how you switch from one character to another.

View all your CHARACTERS by going to your ROLEPLAY tab > As Participant or through CHARACTERS in the top navigation bar.

9. You can leave your CHARACTER to have someone else take your place in the roleplay if you plan on going on a hiatus.

There are other controls available to you that you just have to figure out once you go to RPR and explore the site.
