so it's a bit depressing around here. dreary, grey, smog and smoke. my aunt took us to the great wall first, and it was honestly claustrophobic. i hated it. and then we went to the ming tombs, which i actually liked much better. it had just rained + it's up in the mountains, so i finally felt like i could breathe clearly.
the thing is, the people around here are really different. everyone's so aggressive and manipulative and pushy; the local farmers blocked off the highway at the great wall, so we had to pay them off to show us the way around. if you don't know chinese fluently and aren't firm/a bit rude, you'll get swiped. so now i can see why in general, people from china are pretty rude and shameless, for the lack of a better word. it's honestly the only way to be if you want to survive.
and we ate dinner on a boat. that was pretty cool, i guess. we then went down the streets of houhai, and there's just these people out on the street trying to lead you into their bars and lounges.
