What type of mental problem??
Like some stress or a problem that affected this friend? Or something serious like being crazy to the point of self harm and acting dangerously??
It would really depend on what that "mental problem" is. A disorder or just a problem?
I got friends with bipolar disorder, depressions, panic attacks, anorexia and even one with borderline. So I mean, if it doesn't start to affect your mental health it should not be an issue and you should rather support than leave. However, if it brings you down to the same level, it's just better to leave.
I have a friend who has bipolar disorder and as sweet as the sentiment of being there for her is she has become toxic. When it affects other people nagativy it is no longer the right thing to do.
