Okay so Red Velvet's "Rookie" just came out, and I swear to my entire soul depended on this comeback to be iT for them.
You know how every group just has tHAT song that immortalizes them? THE make or break song that just escalates them from "that" group to "thE" group?

I was never certain if RV had theirs yet, and I'd hoped this would be thE ONE for them but Cheezus Crust.
I feel like I just stepped out of an acid trip.

I spent half the vid tryna figure out a.) who the flowa man is and b.) how much SM probably pays their trainees to dO this.
I would never be satisfied unless the CEO, himself, was in that suit.

It's legit got this super cute JPop feel to it, like idk. It's got the vibes of anything directed by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu...

Seulgi('s face/voice/existence) was perhaps the one that salvaged this entire thing, I kid you not.

bOTTOM LINE...

The MV was... actually pretty fun. Fun to watch, fun to try and digest, even more fun to poke at.
I'm a huge af Red Velvet stan, and that's probably why I'm so comfy being this let down. #stanrv #stanweed?

Idk I love both their Red and their Velvet concepts, but I'll forever wait for the day for those power vocals to shine in BOTH themes.
The 50%-crazy/ 50%-cute theme finally grew on me, along with the doll/puppet shet but... I don't know.

I hated the song. :) I hated it with a passion, but I feel the same about every RV song until I listen to it the 16th time.
I give myself 3 days before this becomes my new springtime jam.

I'll forever miss the jazz they pulled with "Automatic" and "Be Natural" and I hope their next Velvet concept weighs heavily on that because they OWN that so well... I'll just wait for the rest of the songs to see if they grow a little more on me (like "Lucky Girl" and "Cool Hot Sweet Love" did ;;;;;).

This is only a semi-bag on the song, not on RV cuz those are my babies.
Don't come in this blogpost comparing them to Twice or BP because that's not my intention. They all have their own sound/genre.
I'm just praying SM solidifies RV's a bit more.
