People look up at the stars and see nothing but a sea of glittering nights, little dots of hope on a canvas of darkness.
Some people look up at the sky and see just this: Stars. Other people look up at the stars and see constellations and worlds, and there are those, who see dying ones. And they wonder... what is out there? Are we alone? Isn't the thought of being alone - the only living thing in the entire universe - something terrifying? That shakes you to the
very core of your existance because it would mean only one thing: Absolute and complete loneliness.
There is darkness all around him, the world nothing but fleeting pictures of green and gray and glimpses of yellow in the headlights of his car, disappearing and vanishing into nothingness like the rest of the world around him does. The light dances over trees, over houses, over trees again. And all he does is drive, sitting in silence with the radio turned off and his fingers still on the steering wheel, no beat to drum, no song to sing along to. He is alone in the silence of his mind, of the night, of the sleeping world around him. Perhaps those are the moments one truly feels alive, like they exist.
In the middle of the night on the open road, leaving behind a home, a lover, a friend, a mother, a father.
Does it not mean to be free to have no strings attached? Is it not freedom to go where ever you want to go, where ever your thoughts carry you? And only the stars are witness to the thoughts people have at this tme of the night, the clock
striking 3:30 am as he watches the headlights of his car, the sound of crashing waves drawing near.
The thought of loneliness creeps in and he slows down the car, kills the engine and leans back in his seat to look out of the window, gaze travelling across the reflecting glass and over his own face - transparent and almost ghostly. He looks
past himself then, forgets about what it means to be himself and directs his attention to the stars. Only they are witness and only they know if there is something else than loneliness in this universe. And he breathes in. And out again.
