Okay but do like--- y'all give 5 damns about aesthetics?

I can't really put this in a poll, but I was just talking to a friend about this and I wanted to see what your take was now on aesthetics v. content...
The age-old battle that's never really found its victor.

Aesthetic rps are great because who the doesn't like pretty ????? That's why I chase after half my friends tho e u e

Content--- as in, rps with substance--- are great too because that's the backbone of rping.

bUT...

What's your take on it? Of course, the ideal is to have a place with both...

But do you guys still give a if an admin spends 3204823403 hours perfecting (micromanaging) over petty layout details? Or would you rather something simple and un-distracting?

Or even...

Do you guys still care if an rp is deep and thought-out? Or would you prefer something concise and easy to follow?

I know MY answer. Now what's yours? What's too much? What's too little? That sorta shet.

++ i like rps that are well-planned, have a bunch of committed amazing admins. i prefer roleplays with attractive and deeply thought ideas, a theme.

i would say aesthetic layouts are what attract me, but if the roleplay vibes , it still doesnt make a difference, to ' stay ' in that rp isnt because of aesthetic, but how the character fits in and feel in the particular rp.

For me, layouts are usually what attract me. It gives off a 'professional' feel and gives me the feeling that the place is more mature and will be taken seriously. Rather just a dumpy in-between place with nothing going on in it. But when they're over the top with all the extra features, it becomes too confusing so I'm turned off by it. I can't stand looking at layouts that have very light colored backgrounds with very light colored text and/or text that is way too tiny.

I do like deep and thought out places but I also like the other types because my mood changes with the day.

i mean... it helps but I care more about the people in the rp.

the aesthetics are hella pleasing like you're just teasing and tempting me but what really hooks my is that theme tho. If its deep, if i know i can pull a 3-dimensional character with a skeleton, muscle, and a psyché of their own (like i want to be INSPIRED by a roleplay) thats what REALLY shoves me over the edge and into applying.

also having people i've never met before is A++++ bc those are people i roleplay most dilligently with bc i know friends cut me slack IM SORRY

Tbh aesthetics are falling lower and lower on my list because as more and more people begin to make layouts, they ironically get more detailed. Along with the detailed aesthetics of these layouts, the text becomes so small, not to mention hard to read for mobile users. I know for sure I've come across three or more layouts in the past week, that I couldn't read without squinting or making my eyes hurt, and I wasn't even on mobile.

I honestly don't mind what the hell the layout looks like as long as it seems like they put a lot of thought into the rp. because if the layout looks lazy, and the content does, then that's no bueno. I don't mind the simple 'olden days of rpr' kind of layout because it's easy to read, as long as what the rp is about seems fun an original

I am one for complicated and thought-out rps. I won't join them if they're not. [ with the exception being boredom ] But it's pretty safe to say that if there is an rp that's creative and offers all orientations, I will join it. Doesn't matter if it looks "aesthetic" or not. I realize that sometimes making rp's aesthetic is a soothing thing for people to do when they're bored, and publishing them is becoming just a by-product, but it's pretty unnecessary if you're solely focused on the content of the rp and making it thrive with creativity.

I love both? I mean I prefer a good RP plot that helps engage with everyone. (Specially AU's)
But I also love pretty looking layouts. Although, so long as I can read everything okay, I'm good.
So I guess the backbone is more important to me, but layout does give it like a 40+ Points, you know?

ok so, yes i will say that the layout does matter to me a bit because if t's COMPLETELY 1000% changed then that means that this person really took their damn time to make this happen? and they're going waaaay out of their way and going on a limb in hopes that this rp will thrive.
but
to me
you could have the ugliest layout but the most Active people and the rp would draw me in.
if the concept is there, why not give it a shot?
i appreciate the hard work and dedication so much in the aesthetics of rps, but i don't wanna judge a book by its cover. if the person wants to make a super cool layout and then dump the rp not even a day later then it's like >.> why u doin that fam, you couldve halfassed it
i dunno

but yeah
if the layout is BOMB AF and you got a concept like,
oh
i dunno
we're ing kittens and this is some master slave bologna that's going to end up the same damn way then i'm not going to join
if it's a pure fluff rp? i'm not gonna join
someone will have to ask me to join and even then i'd likely just rp with them and where's the fun in that?
i wanna immerse myself
stick my RIGHT IN there
and if the aesthetics are nice then??? yeah
yeah we can get with this,
piixiedust 7 years ago
a nicer looking rp is more likely to draw my attention, but the content needs to hold up
if the base idea is meh, no matter how pretty, I still will likely not join/leave

i mean idc about how little or big the layout is + all of the layouts i've been in are pretty- but the description, rules, or if it's au or nonau matters the most to me.

I'm on mobile forever so idgaf about layouts :'D
Theme and content is much more important

Layout matters bc visual attraction but IF IT'S NOT GOOD.. THen Mehhh. U u U
Also, I get quite upset when the layout is too messy and idk, not readable on mobile. So.. I'll say for me,
--- it's simple but good enough layout (colour can rgb ouo/) and detailed explanation. I'll like to know more about what I'm investing my time and effort than just pretty colors.

layout < theme details

content is more important hands down. layouts don't really matter to me. lmao if they look good, cool - if not, that's alright. as long as i can make some good plots anything is fine.
retiredpupper 7 years ago
i dont think i care much about the layout tbh
like, i appreciate it so much bc the admins worked 349490 hours on it but at the end of the day i would be happier if i know that the admins didn't work so hard on it because you know how much rps last these days

but yeah, i appreciate aesthetic stuff as long as the person who did it did it for fun and entertaiment, not just to please other people

ok my english and idk how to express myself but whatever i hope you got what i meant bb
