the rules would normally go here, whoops.
basically an aesthetic dystopia founded on the backside of enslavement. as a human reaches a threshold of "maturity", they are matched with a djinn and allowed to keep them by their side.
the djinn's role is simple: to consume the dreams harboring within their master's subconscious and keep their mind at ease. dream-eating is a form a detoxification here, in which a human whose mind has run rampant can easily succumb to the hellish dreamscape known as the netherworld.
however with the possession of a djinn comes strict guidelines. Djinn are under no circumstances allowed to be wished free. Djinn are allowed free reign into their master's head to search for nightmares, but are never ever permitted to enter or consume a daydream (lest this risk possession of their master). any and all lucid dreamers are meant to be reported immediately, as this could indicate that the human is "defected".
lowkey meant to be an evolving au bent around events that effect every character there (such as the emergence of a "resistance" that fights for the freedom of the djinns, secrets unlocked as to why the consumption of dreams is so crucial, and the truth as to why lucid dreamers are so rightfully feared).
part matchmaking as well because soothsayers will evaluate every djinn and human before recommending temporary pairings. idk saldfjd just a project because it's 1:30 a.m. and my mind won't let me sleep.
