Back Story
It's said that ancient witches had accidently tapped into a great and evil power that overwhelmed them and ripped their souls from their bodies. This power was known as the Darkness. At first it prayed upon it's liberators their souls out of their bodies. The thousand strong population of witches dwindled as the darkness called upon their empty bodies, possessing them to do it's bidding. In the end the witches had almost become extinct , the last few fleeing into the deep woods.. It was there that they attempted to save themselves. The head of the group of 50 witches called a meeting to discuss her plan, using the light of the sun she'd fuse a human and wolf. Something that had never been done before. These half breeds would be able to fight off the ever approaching Darkness due to their bond with the light. And so the first werewolf was born. This first one was followed by hundreds more until every wolf in the wood had been fused with a human counter part. By day these beings were human and by night, when the darkness hunted, they were able to turn into wolves.
The witches attempted to use this army of werewolves to protect them but their plan failed. The human side in each wolf was angry, angry that they had been ripped from their homes and families by the powerful witches to be turned into werewolves. And so within a month all witches had been killed, the werewolves refusing to protect them and the Darkness taking advantage and killing each and everyone.
The wolves soon returned to their families, a few were shunned, their villages disgusted by what they had become, but most were welcomes back with open arms. The people continued to live believing everything to be fine until one dark, moon-less night. The Darkness had grown hungry for fresh souls and human's were the obvious prey. This was the beginning of the new order.
People were evacuated into large city's guarded by werewolves. By day the people would farm outside the high walls of the city but by night everyone would return behind the walls. The darkness seeped into every bedroom and alleyway within the city walls. The werewolf gauds were simply not enough, it was then that the pairing system was put into place. Each human was matched with a werewolf who would remain with them through the entire night and most of the day. It was common to share a bed with your werewolf and very common to fall in love with them. To the humans werewolves were their protectors. To the werewolves humans were what they used to be, they were precious and to be cherished, a werewolf could not stand to watch a human die.
Years passed and customs evolved. By the 3rd generation it was tradition to " receive" a werewolf. On a human child's 16th birthday they would be taken out of the care of their parents werewolf or in some cases their actual parent being the werewolf and taken to a selection meeting. This meeting consisted of 5 wolves being lined up in front of the child , the child would then choose their wolf by asking their chosen wolf a question " will you save me from the darkness?" Every werewolf , having canine instincts of loyalty would agree and from that day forward the child and the werewolf would forever be together.
Of course things were not that rosy. Most humans had developed to look down upon the helpless wolves. Despite their clear physical strength, their undying loyalty meant they'd allowed themselves to be stepped on by the human race. Human's now saw them as nothing more then gaud dogs. They were the lowest of the low and treated as such. Each person would buy a collar for their werewolf, it was an important part of tradition. Each collar was engraved with the name of the " owner " and was never to be taken off. The vast majority of wolves hated it , they hated the entire system but they were bound to it by their inability to see a human in pain or even worse die. And so each wolf lived by their humans side until they died from protecting their human from the Darkness.
How it works
There are either humans or werewolves. Each human get's the chance to choose their own wolf from a selection of 3 by asking the question " Will you save me from the Darkness?" The werewolf has no choice but to accept. They then go off and live their lives together. There is no need for them to be or not to be lovers or friends. It's completly up to the roleplayers. During the night the werewolf must be with the human at all times but during the day this can change only if the human gives permission
Character Information
Werewolves
Werewolves are allowed to be rebellious, they're not a submissive race but they are protective and loyal. During the night a werewolf will never leave it's owners side regardless of the circumstances. They must be able to fight well due to their duty's. Before a werewolf is paired with it's owner he goes through extensive training to prepare him for the Darkness. When in their human form they keep some of their wolf powers and traits. Some are very wolf like and others are just like humans. It just depends on the wolf. They have better hearing and smell when in human form than normal humans. They're also a lot stronger than a human. Due to the light within them they're always warm no matter what the temperature around them. They heal quickly and have very fast reflexes. During the night they are able to turn into their werewolf form if they choose to, which many do. Here they are the size of a normal wolf, they're also able to comunicate normally. All werewolves are able to breed with each other as long as they have permission from their owners. They can also mate with humans. The wolves are also able to sense the Darkness's presence. There are different classes of werewolf : 1st class, 2nd class & 3rd class. Each class depeneds upon how well they did in training, this also dictates who their owner is. The change from human to wolf and back is painless and quick but clothes are lost.
Humans
There are 3 different levels of human's. The upper class, these people are the richest, they are the most likely to look down upon the werewolves. They live a life of luxury and have certain job roles. ((see list)) At the very bottom are the commoners, they live in the outskirts of the city. Their homes are basic and bare and are also restricted to certain jobs. Then last are the middle class, they're a mix between the two but they're also restricted to special jobs. All humans are able to breed with each other as well as werewolves.
The Darkness
The Darkness is a very real threat and will try and kill any human. It's comes around them like a smoke before entering them and breaking every bone from the inside. Regardless of what people do no-one is able to affect the black smoke in any way except for the werewolves. In their werewolf form they're able to bite through the smoke and disperse it into nothing. If they're able to get a good grip they can even pull it away from their human.
Children
If a child is born from two human's it will obviously be human. If a child is born from two werewolves it will obviously be a werewolf. If a child is born from a human and the other parent is a werewolf the child will be human. If a child is born from a werewolf and the other parent is human the child will be a werewolf. To put it simply: if a baby comes out of a human it's human and if it comes out of a werewolf it's a werewolf, regardless of who the other parent is. Child werewolves are not able to turn into pups but they can grow ears, get a little hairy, maybe a little tail. Also they have sensitve hearing, stay warm regardless, heal quickly and have a good sense of smell all the time, from the moment they're born. Once they reach 11 years they have their first full transformation.
