ONE. what counts as a flaw? [ what's a mary sue/gary stu? ]
Mary sues and gary stues are perfect characters and they can never do anything wrong. As for flaws, make sure it's something bigger than "trips a lot"/ "very clumsy" or any other gimmicks. For example, a good flaw would be insecurity- sure it can be annoying, but that's what makes us human, our sometimes annoying flaws.
Admins will be sad if your only flaw is tripping.
TWO. do i need a soulmate immediately?
No, you don't! The thing about the system we have set up is that your character doesn't need to know who their other is immediately. They could find their other within a couple days or months or years. And if you want, your character could go decades without finding their soulmate and not be a single day over 18. You get to decide who your assigned soulmate is (we won't dictate that!) but you also get to be romantically involved with others if you choose to. Just because someone is your government appointed soulmate doesn't mean you love them and only them. This roleplay is as flexible as you want it to be. If you have any ideas for a plot line that you're not sure will work, just check in with the admins!
THREE. what's this whole government plotline thing about anyway??
The government is the ultimate power. They like to say "the greater for the lesser", which is essentially the privileged for the rest. Since the soulmate match takes your social position and economic status into account, the rich generally get richer, and the poor get poorer in this system. The government tries to keep everyone under their control - arranging marriage, prosecuting those who cheat, assigning jobs, etc. Ideally, this sets up for a perfect people vs. government plot line.
FOUR. how do jobs affect us? what do we do?
You can technically be in any job. It won't affect much, just how rich/poor people treat you. Of course, not everyone can be doctors/lawyers/millionaires etc, so we'll be limiting the numbers of the privileged class and upper social echelon.
FIVE. what's up with the social classes?
Since this roleplay is still partially under construction, we haven't really delved into that yet. More information will be posted on the announcement once we're done. The gist of the social classes is that people are born into a certain social class, and are assigned a class via a chip in their arm. Social barriers are rigid, since moving up past the social class you are assigned at birth is not allowed. It is legal to drop in social status, but it is illegal to move up the social ladder (i.e. change from lower class to upper class). People of lower social classes are not allowed to pursue higher education, and to prevent the spread of government-unfriendly ideas, they are also not allowed to publish written works (poems, novels, etc.). Homes are assigned based on social status, with certain people only being allowed to live in certain areas. Soulmates are also assigned based on the social class assigned at birth, so the only situation in which a higher class citizen could be paired with a lower one is if one of them (illegally or illicitly) changed their social class and is hiding it with a false ID/fake chip of some sort.
SIX. so why would anyone want to be lower class anyway?
Recall that this roleplay isn't just about soulmates; it's also about a dystopia. The main storyline (which, again, is still under construction) is that there is anger towards the government and unrest among the lower classes. Lower-class citizens are more likely to be rebels, so if you are following the revolt-against-the-government storyline, being a lower-class citizen may be pretty fun for you. Also if you are poor you get to hang out with Will, who is objectively the nicest and iest admin in this entire roleplay (and also has the best buns). Seriously, what's not to love?
> Subjective and obviously not true. Hope is not only ten times cooler, but also taller and nicer and probably ier than Will.
SEVEN. how come hope is so much cooler than will?
There are many mysteries of life that have yet to be solved. This is just one of them. -Hope
I didn't choose the cool life. The cool life didn't choose me, either. I'm not cool. -Will
