As long as I have hope, there's no way that I won't be able to debut.
We spoke with some of the longest lasting training over at Crown Royal Entertainment, and asked them how they felt about being the longest trainee.
KyM's Interview:
Question : You have been training for the company for five years, how do you feel about not debuting? You've released several OSTs for dramas and acted in several dramas as well. Although, you haven't debuted as an idol, why is that?
Answer: *chuckles* Actually, I'm currently in my 7th year as a trainee with the company. *shrugs* The company probably felt that while my skills in acting were good, my idol skills weren't. I've gone through many group line up changes, there was even talk about just debuting me as a solo artist. However, I'm not that comfortable performing by myself yet, so I'd rather debut in a group first and then maybe later down the road, I'll have a solo debut.

Althea's Interview:
Question : Althea, you've been a trainee for 5 years, but you've had experience with acting in CFs and such. Why did you decide to pursue an idol path rather than an actress path? How do you feel about being a 'professional' in the field but unable to debut as an idol yet?
Answer: "I feel like I'm part of the Miss Universe contest," she joked and laughed along to herself. "Well, most of my close friends know that I'm the type of person who would feel shy in front of someone new or in a crowd... Making commercials and working with many producers is an honour, especially if it's something that involves food!" Althea flashed a gentle smile and closed her eyes for a moment, as if she was trying to relive a memory, "However, it's not why I came to the city. When I was younger... I would always sing to the animals in our farm every morning and dance whenever I can. I learnt how to play guitar at a young age after demanding my mother to teach me and might I add, she was a prodigy at our neighbourhood when she was my age. Even if I enjoyed my time in the countryside and enjoyed the natural beauty of it... I still felt trap. As if my life was in stagnation. I wanted more... I wanted to be free. When I got recruited to join a company as a young model, I begged my mother to allow me. I knew that I could help support my family by doing something I love." The girl raised her hands to fan herself, feeling cornered at the moment but proceeded with her answer. "I wouldn't say that I wasn't satisfied with how my life was because I accept it no matter what. But when there's a chance for one to change it for the better and for the benefit of those you love, wouldn't you do it? Moreover, if your heart wants to be free? Being a model or an actress is a great job to take on... yet it wasn't me. I want the world to know me for me, not because of a character I play. I believe that they can read my soul just by listening to the songs I sing... it's why I chose to be a trainee and head on for the idol life. I don't mind if I have to wait long because I want to prove to people that there's more to music and it's power over one's life..." Althea lowered her head into a small bow and flashed a smile, "Thank you, I hope it wasn't too dramatic!""

Jaejun's Interview :
Question: You've been the longest trainee in the company, in fact, you've been with the company for ten years and counting - and you were previously with a Chinese company for one year. Yet, you've never debuted, nor have you made any appearances in music videos, nor were you a backup dancer for any artist outside of the company.
How do you feel about being with the company for so long and yet, not being able to debut?
Answer: Honestly? It was very frustrating. For the first year, I was alone, training by myself as an idol trainee, but a few years later, I became close friends with Althea noona. If I hadn't met her three years after I joined the company, I would've quit the company completely. I knew that I wanted to be an idol, it was my dream for a very long time.
During the time I spent in China, I was working on my skills. I've practiced my dance skills with many popular Chinese groups when I was younger. I've worked with a very popular producer and song writer when I was younger as well to help me work on my song writing skills. I've had vocals lessons since I was very young. I did this all in China, and when I moved over to Korea, my friends helped set me up with an audition at the company. I didn't want their efforts to go to waste.
I auditioned for the company when I was ten years old, I'm twenty-one now. I've learned a lot of things, I've seen those who was a trainee for a shorter time than me debut as an actor or as a popular dancer. I've given up on several, several occassions, but it doesn't mean that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't lose hope. I've trained over, and over again. And I know that I'll debut soon.
As long as I don't lose hope, there's no way that I won't be able to debut. I don't want to let down those who worked so hard to make me what I am today. Without them, I'm nothing.

Question (towards Taehyung)
You are very active in the underground rap scene, what is the difference between the two atmospheres? Also, why would you join a company that produced so far models and actors, and now currently trying to debut an idol group? Why not a hip hop company? You've lived in Compton as well, why not pursue being an American Rapper?
Answer: /ivory drags along his plump lips, scattered light filtering in the more he shifts. gratification settles on his cheekbones, dips into the soft curve of his cheek until it falls onto the curl of his lips, agile fingers bringing the collar of his shirt into place. no mistake in that, though an obvious difference I’d want to put out there is that no one in the idol industry’s clearly trying to chew anybody out as opposed to the underground scene – where everyone’s got eyes on everything and more than often, they’d try to single you out and spit fire with it. there are a few to no rules so you’d easily expect seeing wild dogs withs barks worse than their bites, but it’s always in a days work to learn how to get with the pack or just .. earn that alpha title. /the thought is merely dismissed with a nonchalant shrug, though highly intrigued a brow does arch upwards without his own consent. that already being what I’m so accustomed though .. I’ve always wanted to consider myself as the type of guy that likes to try new things, knowing no one has ‘forever’ to get to which and whatever it is that may have crossed their thoughts. crowned not too long ago as a trainee though, I’d like to take this up as a new challenge — see where it does take me and hopefully become a bigger and better person in the progress, experienced nonetheless. like some sort of a pokemon or something buuut y’know what I’m tryna say, started off with the underground hip hop life and I’d gladly take that with me onto new heights. /the last and final question like he’d assumed as of definite notice but in his seat he shuffles almost contradicted-like from time to time, the stoic expression on his face existing no longer as he grins and eventually lets out a hearty chuckle. there’ll be a time where that may happen, just not now though. I’m tryna stay in touch with the korean roots of me that I’ve left for so long .. and to be a good son, lets just say I’d also make it up to these folks of mine in a way.

Question: What were / are some of the challenges you are currently going through on your way to success?
Althea : I'm too cautious of most things and sometimes too shy to stand up for myself. Therefore, I always cower in a corner instead of standing in the limelight. This shows through my voice, I pass the limit of ranges when alone rather than with anyone watching me.
KyM : When I first came to Korea it was pretty much a culture shock almost. I came here without knowing the language to live with my grandmother, uncle and his wife after my parents died. So having to adjust to a completely different lifestyle and a new language wasn't easy but I did it. I still have trouble with the language every once in a while but it's much better now. Now i just hope that I can be the best leader I can be for my group and lead them successfully.

Question (towards Jaejun) :
We've heard rumors that you've lived a very tough life back when you lived in China. Is it true? What kind of ordeals did you go through?
Answer: I went through a lot of ordeals. Yes, I did, but not for a second did I regret or hated them. My father's busineess in China went down. So we were homeless for a while. My parents never had enough money to pay for medicine, so when I was sick, I had to fight through it. After living on the streets for a while, we moved in with my grandparents. The house was only two hundred square feet, and it tried to fit seven people. My mom, dad, me, my grandparents and my aunt and uncle.
No, we didn't have a lot of money, so my parents oftened worked eight jobs, so they weren't at home. We could barely afford the uniform for school, nor could they afford to pay for my class fees. So I was homeschooled by my grandparents. My grandparents, feeling bad about the life I was living, took me to get some vocal lessons by a good friend of theirs. That friend taught me how to play piano, sing. And that friend introduced me to a popular songwriter in China who worked with popular bands in China. That songwriter taught me how to write songs and produce them and introduced me to those bands, in which they introduced me to a dance academy. I received a full scholarship for the dance academy and I learnt how to dance their and I danced with the idol groups.
The situation at home wasn't any better either. I would often only have only one meal a day, dinner because that was all my family could afford. And for dinner we would have soup and rice. If we were lucky, we would have some fish as well. I don't regret it though.

Question: What is your biggest dream and ultimate goal?
Althea : My biggest dream is to be the voice of the people who can't be heard, place a smile on their faces after listening to the songs my future fellow group members and I produce, whether it may range from RnB, ballad to pop. My ultimate goal is to deliver my best in what I do and improve day by day into a better singer.
KyM: My biggest dream is to debut with my fellow trainees and grow closer to them. My ultimate goal is to be the best leader I can and lead my group... international fame would be nice too.
Jaejun: My biggest dream is to be able to debut with an amazing group. Although, in ten years, I hope to still be with my group and also pursue a solo career.
My ultimate goal though, is to help my family live more comfortably then they've been living for the last seventeen to eighteen years.

Taehyung: My biggest draem is to go hard or go home. I aspire to become the very best presentation or myself no matter whereever I am or whomever I'm with. Since truly as an aspiration I always stick to the motto of "work hard and play harder".
Like this... I'd feel like my life would be complete if I live it to the fullest now, wouldn't it?

Answer: Rather than look at what's lost and has not been obtained... just yet, I instead look up and forward to many other oppurtunites to come. I've actually got a few tricks up my sleeves but I'll definitely let the public get ready for what's hot and cooking first - Crown Royal's first album!
Question : How did you feel when your solo song was choosen to be apart of the album?
Soohyun: I was speecless, I never had an ideat of it. I mean, I was just trying because I know my seniors are better at it. I can't imagine this would happen, but I like it. Thank you to the company, I will try my best!
KyM: It's an honor really. Borders is one of the songsI wrote when I was going through hard times. Some of the lyrics are actually qutoes from the last letter my late mother wrote to me, so this song is very personal and to have it be a part of this album means so much to me.
Jaejun: I was really happy when the company said that they would release an album to show the talents of the trainees. It made it worth waiting for. Although, now that it was time to show off my talents, I was very nervous. I didn't know which one would be best for the company. So, I decided, to go with a song that best fit the theme.
Sofa was my first choice when it came to songs - so I waited nervously to see the results on which song was being promoted. And just having a song that I was in would've made my day. But seeing that my solo song made it, and it was getting a music video, I thought it was a dream.
Answer: Rather than look at what's lost and has not been obtained... just yet, I instead look up and forward to many other oppurtunites to come. I've actually got a few tricks up my sleeves but I'll definitely let the public get ready for what's hot and cooking first - Crown Royal's first album!

Question: How would you describe the 'musical' color of the album?
Taehyung: Think of the album itself as an 'abstract' but still a very important piece of art that may consist of many colours. IT's monochromatic in a way where it has shades referring to the RnB and hiphop genre that can get anyone up and kicking, then in contrast but enough to match perfectly comes the tint portion with soulful ballads and much more that would also get a person to sit back and relax. It's the type of art that reels you in and pretty much stays within you.
I swear - these songs will get to your head in the greatest way possible!
Jaejun : Like Taehyung mentioned before, it's a really 'abstract' color. Rather than the color, I want to think of it like this. The album's theme was, 'A Day of Youth'. There are songs in which it makes you feel warm as if you were young again. But youth is not only like that. People experience different things in youth, like sadness, frustrations or stress. This album doesn't only highlight the light, warm feelings of youth, but also those feelings as well.
