  front desk
checking in?
because there's no such thing as checking out.
✧ choi bitna 6 years ago
@✦ kwon eunbi Huffing under her breath, Bitna fixed her hair back into a low, loose and slightly messy ponytail, it just wasn't cooperating with her, so she decided to tie it back to keep it out of her face, knowing that it would distract her as time passed. After cutting her hair short like this, she was kind of always stuck with having to tie it back because it was a mess if she didn't. She loved her short hair as it is now, but it was starting to bother her a bit; she couldn't wait to grow it back out - but at the same time she was at the hairdresser's yesterday to cut it a bit shorter - she didn't know what she wanted and acted a bit on impulse, which wasn't like her at all. Always calm, organized and with a plan - a perfectionist if you could use one word to describe her simply. She wasn't a neat freak, just a very organized person. It was the beginning of the morning shift, so she had to go down to the front desk, not knowing if the other concierge was working with her in the shift or not. Most of the time they worked two shifts, almost never bumping into each other. With one last look in the mirror, Bitna smiled to herself as she went out of her room, locking the door behind herself carefully. Putting the small, but slightly heavy bundle of keys into the back pocket of her simple black ripped jeans, she made a left turn in the hallway of the staff rooms, going in the direction of the stairs that would lead her to the main lobby of the small, but big enough hotel.
As Bitna was still a bit "new" (in her own opinion) to the hotel as a staff member, she was always taking her free time to just wander around the hotel and the hotel grounds - to be sure that she always knows her way around, not to seem like a newbie to the guests because that would be simply horrible. The staff here always had to be prepared and ready for anything, so she shouldn't lack or stay behind in any way. This job at the hotel is everything she needed and everything she had, because she wasn't going back to her old life - there was almost nothing left of it anyway. The only thing that tied her to the life she had before coming to work here in the hotel was the house which her mother left her when she left to live with her current boyfriend. And if you were to ask her to go back to her old, plain and boring life she once had she'd say no, which was surprising as she was one of those people that strictly stuck to the routine they had in mind, probably because she was still a bit scared of the unknown and new things, but that could be changed too. Through and with time, of course.
Shrugging her shoulders slightly at her thoughts, Bitna came down the stairs and into the empty lobby, humming a random melody that was stuck inside her mind under her breath quietly. She trailed her fingers against the walls as she stepped into the lobby, stopping her quiet humming when she took notice of a petite female figure standing in the middle of the lobby, the other concierge, Dahyun, nowhere in sight, which could only mean that she could be of help to the newcomer, possibly. With a bounce in her step now, Bitna's face was decorated with the most welcoming, warm and sincere smile she could muster as she took a few steps over to the front desk, standing behind it, her curious, sparkly eyes still on the female guest. She tried not to stare, but she couldn't help herself, it was always Dahyun who welcomed new guests and helped them around the hotel and to their room, but it was Bitna's moment to shine, finally. Not that she was envious of Dahyun, of course not - she just wanted to work and not to be just hanging around the hotel. Always ready to help, Bitna didn't mind if she had to work in the kitchen or anywhere else in this hotel, as long as it runs and has enough business. They always needed customers, so they needed to be on their best behaviour at all times, no matter what. "Hello, welcome to the Sugar rush hotel! I'm Bitna, how may I help you, miss?" She asked, bowing her head slightly in a polite greeting, the welcoming smile still on her face.

@✧ kim dahyun Sooyoung's grin was genuine as she smiled at the younger girl. There weren't many people in the motel that could go along with her whims (and her tendency to be rather... rash and unpredictable in the weirdest situations), so Sooyoung was rather thankful for Dahyun's presence in the motel. She gave Sooyoung a sense of home, nostalgia that she supposed she wouldn't want to forget even if she was told to. It was an important part of her past, her family, and oh well, she might or might not be secretly wishing to exact revenge on the people who had killed her family back then, though she was sure that they would have been dead by now.

That didn't stop her from inflicting pain upon their descendants, though she should look for a way to get out of the motel first without dying due to all the aging she should have undergone.

"Let's do that then. I doubt they would let us play in the kitchen during work hours anyway," she said, shrugging as she patted the sides of her thighs. She then began to walk back outside, still facing the other girl in the room. "Well, I'll see you later! Our shifts end up around the same time, right?" she said. Since the two of them were what one would call the front liners, they ended at the same time, though Daehyun obviously had more breaks than Sooyoung, being the sole bodyguard this place had.

@✧ park sooyoung Dahyun let out a chuckle at the older female's excitement. Her happiness had always been infectious to Dahyun. She supposed it was a good thing. It kept her from getting too sad and losing her touch with the customers. If you wanted to succeed here, you had to put on a brave face and make the customers happy so you could drain their life force. If you didn't, you could die without a second thought. "I'll try my best to put out any possible fires, okay?" She grinned, nodding in agreement. "Now, shall we go through with this after our shifts today? I'd say now but you never know if a customer is going to need something. It's kind of insane how often something goes wrong." She reached back, running her fingertips against the back of her head in a nervous gesture.

One of the few powers Dahyun was thankful for was her slight manipulation of fire. She could light a candle with a brush of her fingertips or aid in putting out a small one. If a fire were to occur in the kitchen and she could lessen it as much as possible, she could easily finish dousing it with her powers. A pretty useless power otherwise, it made for a great party trick. Plus, this whole thing would remind her of the days she'd bake for her baby sister and the days of teaching her that she never got to have.
✧ park sooyoung 6 years ago
@✧ kim dahyun Dahyun reminded Sooyoung too much of the latter's youngest sister. Perhaps it was because of the similar personalities or the fact that Dahyun had come into the motel several lifetimes after her, but she found herself gradually warming up to the younger. As a woman who simply did not let anyone inside her heart, she had surprised the other staff with her willingness — and eagerness — to get closer to the lass. "Yay!" she cheered, putting her palms against each other with a bright beam in her face. "Let's do our best not to burn anything then!"

Well, Sooyoung might be the only one who would burn anything if there was any fire involved. Somehow, despite how long she had lived her life, she could not find the right skill (or teacher) for cooking. Her cooking skills involved the wild and her dishes were not what one would call appetizing. She had lived quite a harsh life — such luxurious dishes were something they could have not afford before.

@✧ park sooyoung The younger girl held back her laughter at her friend's excitement, finding it adorable. "I'm happy to hear that." She figured she might like to help, but after some previous experiences with the hotel's kitchen, she'd still been hesitant to ask. It didn't help that several of the other staff members didn't have the kind of patience she had. She supposed it came with having a baby sister, though Sooyoung was older than her by a few lifetimes, which changed the game up a little. Despite her background as a burnout who preferred to run off with rock bands and cause trouble, she'd developed a love for baking. She used to bake all sorts of little treats to keep the little one happy and it kept her parents mouths shut, so why not?

She tilted her head in the opposite direction of Sooyoung, a smile still resting upon her lips. "I'm pretty sure, love. I wouldn't have offered if it was going to be a problem. I have and I believe they didn't have the patience to show you that accidents happen and it's all about practice. If we ruin a couple of batches of cake mix and cause a fire or two, it's okay. It happens." She lifted her shoulders in a shrug, figuring the situation wouldn't be a big deal. There were plenty of mixes, ingredients, and fire extinguishers in the kitchen anyway.

@✧ kim dahyun Sooyoung's eyes — or one eye, rather — lit up at the younger girl's words. "I'd like to help, of course!" she said without even a second given for hesitation. Why would Sooyoung refuse, anyway? She had always been banned from the kitchen, as she might or might not have destroyed half of it once several years ago. She had promised that she would never do that again, but the other staff never believed her — for good reason, obviously. But no one had wanted to teach her! She just needed a teacher, and she would be good to go after a few lessons. She took pride in the fact that she was a fast-learner, and it was also why it was so easy to teach her martial arts back then.

She placed her elbows above the counter, leaning toward Dahyun with excitement painting her mien, before her expression quickly morphed into one of slight worry. She tipped her head to one side, raising an eyebrow. "Are you sure you'd let me help you, though? Have you not heard of the staff's stories?" Yes, those stories that they even told the customers when they were too drugged and high off the delicacies that they served. It was not as though the customers would remember, after all.

@✧ park sooyoung Dahyun drummed her slender fingertips against the stained wood as she patiently awaited the arrival of her dear friend. She also bounced on back and forth on her feet to keep her knees from locking up beneath her. Sooyoung and her had been friends for several years, though most wouldn't have pictured such a friendship. They came from completely different time periods, which made for different viewpoints and sets of morals. To her surprise, they'd gotten along famously in their time together.

"I was going to ask what you were doing after your shift today." Dahyun pointed out, rosy lips parting in a sweet smile as her eyes met those of her friend. "I was going to bake a few treats for the customers tonight and I was wondering if you might be interested in helping. I remember you mentioning before that you'd like to learn how to bake. This is entirely up to you though. You're more than welcome to just come and keep me company in the kitchen." She raised her shoulders in a nonchalant shrug, extending a hand to adjust the nametag on her uniform.

@✧ kim dahyun Stifling a yawn, Sooyoung leaned against the wall near the entrance, a shotgun that was not exactly just for show standing by her side. There were not a lot of people that came in today, but still not few, if they were considering the normal amount of customers that entered on most days. They were not as annoying as they had been in the past, but she wanted to be inside sometimes, talk with the customers, know what weaknesses they held. Their pasts were often interesting as well, as she did not really had much of a chance to experience things outside this world.

Her ears perked up when she heard her name being called. "Yes?" she called back, and she peeked inside. She pushed herself off the wall, grabbing the shotgun with a strong grip of her hand, and she wandered inside, letting the door close on its down. The visage of the younger employee entered her sight, and she placed her weapon near the desk, letting its weight fall against the wooden furniture. "What is it, Dahyun?" she asked, tilting her head slightly to the side.
✧ kim dahyun 6 years ago
@✧ park sooyoung Today was like any other day. At least, in Dahyun's opinion it was. With each day that passed, new customers came in, unaware that they would be ensnared in the employees' hold and never let go. They had no idea that they would meet their demise after tasting their treats. It was funny in a way. Sweet things were originally meant to bring happiness to people, not...whatever they brought now.

While quietly singing the lyrics of Bon Jovi's Runaway under her breath, she finished fixing up her desk. It wasn't like she hated her job or what she did. She owed the witch from years ago for saving her and allowing her to enact her own revenge, so it was only fair. Seconds later, she remembered why today was going to be different than most of the others. Leaning over the long, wooden desk, her umber eyes flicked around for her favorite employee. "Sooyoung? I have something I want to ask you."

@✦ lee changsub Her age was definitely showing as she found half her words swallowed by her own thoughts. Carelessness was unforgivable, paid in the form of a lost customer. But she couldn't afford that, her greed was too much and as of late, the influx of customers sent her powers for a loop. Her skin never looked clearer and her complexion seemed to glow, as did her eyes (even with their deep, near-black color). "Oh, forgive me- you seemed tense. Your wrinkles were showing, but I think that's because of the lighting," she scoffs, sparing the offending flickering bulb with a stern look, and it stilled: as if on command the light stilled. This was the magnitude of her power, such that she didn't even have to think about it and it would work.

"If you wouldn't mind, I am going to tag along," she announces almost tiredly, as if standing at the front had exhausted her. The cookie she left half eaten would become her snack later, or perhaps bait for another customer. "I have menu's to check and dishes to taste in time for dinner." She narrowly dodges the edge of the table, her hips swaying and fingers just pressing to his shoulder, polite in the way that it guides him towards the hallway he was facing. "Right this way, Mister Lee," it's humorous, using her age old customer service to remedy her slip up and perhaps push herself from the shadow of doubt that may have already begun blooming. Joohyun was in trouble.

@✧ bae joohyun "My...forehead..." His confused tone is evident as his eyes naturally glance up, catching sight of the ceiling rather than the object of his focus. "Yeah, what about it?" Changsub finds his gaze sliding back down to Joohyun, shuffling in the doorway for a second before eventually taking a step further into the room. The way she's watching him makes him uneasy...more so than usual, and that's concerning with how uncomfortable he is in this place practically 24/7.

Changsub balances his weight on his right foot, fingers scraping the inside of his pocket and collecting lint under the fingernail, scraggly pieces of blue clinging to his skin. Her question injects a bubble of anxiety into the man's normally displeased personality. "No, I was actually just about to head to the..." Think, idiot, think! "Kitchen. For a snack. I know my way there, so, thank you, but I don't need any help." Topping it off with a awkward smile Changsub is hoping the act fools her, even if Joohyun has eyes like a hawk. Most of the staff are fine with letting his minor discrepancies slide by, but her...there's just something about her.

@✦ lee changsub “… Your forehead ,” Irene hums, facing the other’s stand-offish demeanor with an easy smile and her cheek in her palm. The routine was the same, slipping him increments of the same dose other customers consumed: he was far more lucid than most. Irene was puzzled at how well he fending it off, and why haven’t the witches moved past sweets to deliver their curse was beyond her. Expanding their arsenal would have been the smartest move, especially with customers like him. Capturing her bottom lip between her teeth, Joohyun presses her thumb against her lip to help get that once sliver of persistant dry skin.

Hissing softly as that sliver comes longer than expected, her tongue sweeps across the skin to soothe the pinch of pain; she catches the metallic taste. “Mm, that aside,” she flicks away the fleck of skin and her eyes sweep the length of the hallway he came from to meet his expression. He seemed alone, and if she was reading his aura correctly, he seemed annoyed - this wasn’t good. He needed his next dose. “Can I help you in anyway?”

@✧ bae joohyun How many months...Changsub can't really remember. He wasn't even paying attention to the date when he'd decided to check into the motel all those weeks ago. The customer is quick to get agitated by such thoughts, typically taking walks around the halls to clear his head. No matter how many times he thinks he's mapped the layout of the building, something new always seems to pop up. You think he'd be interested in the new discoveries, but he's just...annoyed.

Rounding a hall he t h o u g h t was supposed to lead to the kitchen Changsub actually turns into the entrance of the motel. His first action is to stare directly at the door, thinking himself alone before hearing a voice almost behind him. Changsub immediately directs his attention away from the strawberry-painted wood, finding himself making eye contact with none other than Park Joohyun. He can't say he knows her well, but the man has made a point of memorizing all the staff he comes across. (Makes it easier to keep focused.) Unable to walk away without seeming out of place, but too down to fake a smile, Changsub offers a dreary half-smirk and shoves his hands into his pockets. "Evening, Joohyun - and it's good." Now, lie he can do. "Couldn't be better."

@✦ lee changsub Joohyun is one with this motel, her heart beating to the tick of the clock, and her gait as swift as the closing elevator door. Her organization is clean and compartmentalized like every single room in this motel, this hell she found herself in so many years ago: to this point, she's lost count! It's a somber thought, but nothing like a small cookie to cheer her up. She sits at the front desk, quietly awaiting the next customer to bring into this home Joohyun and other's have made. It's picturesque right now, her sitting behind the desk, sneaking nibbles of her cookie in the peace and quiet of the front desk; outside it's storming with a downpour and an occasional flash of lightning. One could barely hear it from here.

Joohyun doubts one can see the storm from most windows. Her daydreaming is interrupted, though, when she feels an energy passing down and around the corner. She brushes the crumbs from her hands and away the remnants of the decadent cookie from her bottom lip, followed by a sweep of her thumb. If she recalled correctly, this customer had checked in some time ago. "Good evening, Changsub! How are you enjoying your stay?"
