A blue ink circles the date today, and she woke up early in the morning to be able to deliver the goods for the kids at the summer camp and to drop off a file at the school for the incoming school year next month before she head straight to his place. It has been months since they’ve last seen each other, a part of her wouldn’t admit that it is partly because of how unsure she was in diving with the ‘benefits’ thing after their romantic relationship ended—and not just because of how she is too occupied with her work.

Curious as to why the front door of his house was left wide open when she arrived, she let herself in, only to find the place in such a total disaster while the owner had his hand wrap around one bottle of liquor. It broke her heart into pieces to see him like this, just as much as, she felt her heart pound in a way it hadn’t in months just like when she saw him for the first time.

Rachel smiled sadly, observing his environment. An evident mess of liquor bottles, and perhaps strings of one night stands judging from the laid out clothe that seemingly belong to women.

Rachel had seen him drunk throughout the years of their relationship, when he was overwhelmed about matters regarding his work, but she had never seen him this dishevelled in front of her—He was usually so impeccable despite the liquor until now. And it’s a foolish thing of how someone like her, who is one fluent speaker of two languages, has forgotten how to form a coherent sentence because of him.

“Robert,” her lips part, but not a word nor syllable flow through except for his name to take away his attention from tossing around the stuff laid out on his living room. Still, she is not prepared for those familiar pair of dark brown eyes which stared right back at her. Rachel walks toward him, every single step in thought of what to say to him or what to do once she is standing right in front of him.

“Hey,” she managed to greet him in a whisper like its a private secret between them, she held up her hand to caress a side of his cheek before planting a sweet gentle kiss on the other side that may have lingered unintentionally. “I missed you.” She spoke softly, placing the food she brought for him a top of the coffee table.

Her hand gently snatched away the whiskey on his hand to place it along the table, if there is anything else she could do for the man, is to be patient and to be understanding. “I cooked your favorite meal, have you eaten?” she asked, forcing a smile on her lips. She could’ve asked if he was alright but, what is the point of asking a question when she already is looking at the answer. The eyes certainly do not
lie.

@rachel mcadams For the last two and a half years, his problems that involved sleeping with a handful of women and drinking until he couldn’t stand or think coherently, had completely disappeared. His ex and now friends with benefits was the sole reason for it. When she entered his life a few years after the tragic accident, she became the reason that made every day one to look forward to. Now that they were broken up for good, life became significantly less bright but the fact that he could continue to see her and touch her, even for short moments, made it all the better. Though, this past year started off differently since they saw each other less due to their busy lives, and now that this certain day came up rather quickly, he was back to his old ways.

Instead of waking up early to drive to the office for a meeting with a couple of executives, Robert woke up with his head atop a rough sketch of a possible new invention he created while drunk last night. His eyes squinted at the suit-like drawing before he shook his head a couple times and pinched the bridge of his nose roughly. “What happened last night..” he muttered quietly under his breath as he groggily walked up the stairs from his spacious yet messy workroom combined with the showroom for his various cars, to the second floor so he could take a long shower and ultimately get lost in the thoughts that made him incredibly restless. By the time he’d finished cleaning himself up, he went straight to the kitchen and served himself a second glass of aged scotch after downing the first glass immediately.

After a hour of continuous drinking, texting a couple women to stay at his place for the weekend, and sitting there in silence as he contemplated his entire life, the sudden ring of the doorbell caused a delayed reaction that pulled him back to reality. He set the phone faced upwards on the kitchen island and went over to see who it was with the half full bottle of whiskey in his hand. “What a pleasant surprise,” he said as the blonde model grabbed a fistful of his shirt to pull him a step forward so she could press a feverish kiss against his lips. For a long moment he lost himself until he suddenly remembered that Rachel was suppose to stop by around this time.

“I’m expecting someone. Come by tomorrow, alright?” He pressed another kiss against her lips before he gave her backside a playful smack as she turns around with a small pout. When she was out of sight, he firmly knocked his forehead with the side of his fist as he remembered that Rachel texted him the night before to let him know that she wanted to see him. Leaving the front door wide open, he walked back to toss articles of women’s clothing and undergarments laid around the living room to the side as he took a swig of whiskey.
