TIMELINE OF THE OUTBREAK
history of the virus
december 2012 — the dead come to life and attack the living. the spread of the infection is slow, but affects all the dead bodies in nearby cemeteries and morgues.
january 2013 — to everyone's relief, a public announcement is made: stay indoors as often as possible. rations and donations can be made to relief centers in surrounding towns. a bite from the infected is not infectious.
may 2013 — the population is halved. the government and those in power are nowhere to be found. it is common belief that the infection is inherent in everyone, and once you die, you'll become one of the infected unless your brain is destroyed.
august 2016 — some survivors create a safe haven from the infected, inviting those still alive to stay within the borders of their new shelter.
october 2016 — more and more survivors group together and make the borders of their shelter even larger, creating a small town in which visitors come by for supplies, or even choose to stay.
february 2017 — the shelter becomes popular among remaining survivors, many of them choosing to travel in that direction. it is named ansikjeo city.
september 2017 — a government of the city is elected, most of them being the original survivors to have created the safe haven. curfews are implemented, and jobs such as guards, scavengers, and soldiers are assigned.
june 2018 — strict rules are enforced within ansikjeo. to avoid rulebreakers that may bring mayhem within the small city, a prison system is created. citizens can only receive food through ration cards. none are allowed to leave the city, unless they are scavengers. those that try to leave will be shot down.
november 2019 — a rebel group opposing the government is created in an attempt to release the people from the oppressive hold ansikjeo has on them.
january 2020 — rebels are imprisoned and hunted down. chaos within the city erupts, and the government enforces even stricter rules and laws. the amount of sick survivors seems to increase.
march 2020 — the rebels continue to fight, and more and more join their cause. they conceal their identities to avoid being caught by policemen and soldiers.
april 2021 — the government remains firm in its oppression. the rebels remain firm in their cause. the citizens accept that this internal chaos will rule how the rest of their life plays out.
december 2022 — all hell breaks loose. those that were initially bitten by the infected ten years ago die, and become a mutated version of the original infected. faster, stronger, better senses. the massacre is far worse than the intial outbreak.
january 2023 — panic erupts. people attempt to escape from ansikjeo, some of them being shot down by soldiers in the process. the city falls. some escape. most die.
april 2025 — by now, it is common knowledge that a bite from the undead is infectious. however, the virus takes ten years to manifest fully, before killing its host and turning them into a mutated version of the original infected.
september 2026 — the remaining survivors of ansikjeo that have stayed together agree to try and rebuild the city. they call for more survivors to join them. few do.
march 2027 — current day. a group of survivors have holed up in a rather large motel. you are one of them.
