It was good to indulge in finding gifts for them sometimes. He could not be in the receiving end of everything, though his heart told him he deserved as much. He would not be ungrateful, however. He’d given his family a position close to the throne by marrying a beautiful princess. He’d just simply fallen for her brother instead. Things would be just fine, however. By now, him and Fenghu were masters of concealing their nighttime meetings.

Xiahua paused in his tracks, jerked from his thoughts by the unsightly scene before him. A woman, beating another woman, all for a necklace? His dark brows furrowed with distaste, but he stepped towards them nonetheless. “You-! What are you doing? What right have you to start fights with someone clearly weaker than yourself over a piece of jewellery?”

Why would god create her, such an impeccable being, if not to spoil her with riches and whatever she desired. She couldn’t help but think this way. Life was too short not to grab what she wanted. If you happen to blink, everything could be gone in an instant. That’s why she didn’t view her parents and those around her as people. They were just stepping stools to getting what she wanted. Their feelings didn’t matter. Hers did. Their pain wasn’t pain. Hers was. To live in her world, she discarded sympathy and empathy. The world was full of snakes anyways. The poison seeping through her veins was proof of it.

So instead of giving, she learned to just take. To take whatever she wanted. Of course there were times when she would ask nicely. Like now. She saw a beautiful pigeon-blood ruby gemstone sitting prettily around a woman’s neck. It looked as if it were colored with fresh blood itself. She had to have it. She pulled the woman aside and asked to buy it off her but she refused, saying it was a gift. She wouldn’t agree to sell it to Wei, so Wei decided to give her a gift of her own. With rings decorating her hand, the second prince’s wife beat the other women in a secluded alleyway as her eyes glistened with a dream-like daze, her lips curling into a sinister smile. “Who are you? You should know better than to refuse me.” She whispered, her soft, angelic voice carrying out into the wind. And with a small huff, she snatched the necklace from the blooded women.
