cognitives, androids fueled by artificial intelligence and yet somehow are built to obey human command and will. each cognitive is installed to perform key tasks, able to learn and adapt at instantaneous speed, but also have limits set on them. they’re unable to harm living beings, only able to make major changes and decisions based on human choices. while they can deliver “opinions”, it is mainly based on what they know and have researched, all based off another human’s words and emotions, the latter of which cognitives also do not have.

with their abilities, they perform various tasks and responsibilities. they can clean homes, work on wall street, and even perform surgeries. however, it is popular to have cognitives that are programed to assist with humans’ social lives. many are programed to be a human’s perfect companion, whether for friendship, love, or . they are tested to match with their assigned human’s needs, personality, and attitude. what they say sounds genuine, but all manufactured at the end of the day by a program that tells them what is and is not appropriate for their human and current situation.

muse a and muse b, cognitive #408hme, have been together for four years. muse a lost their partner years ago, devastating them. they barely eating, leaving home seemed like a long journey. it was only when muse a’s family and friends bought muse b, to help them deal with the pain. while it took time, muse a slowly healed. while muse a knew deep down that muse b was not capable of real emotions and their words and actions were artificial, it did not matter because it all seemed so real.

it was not until one night after a visit to a gallery. muse b would describe the artwork in great detail like how the painter used a certain technique or the shades of a particular color. whenever they were asked about their feelings, it was always indescribable. that night though, things changed when muse b started crying alone. why was there a sensation of pain that they could not locate, one that did not trigger injury alarms of sorts. why did they feel a flutter of some when muse a passed them. from that night on, muse a and b had to figure out what the future had in store for them. was muse b’s emotions for a real or fake all this time? who was muse b now when they were not like the other cognitives?

muse a is a tyrant, ruling over a land filled with humans and hybrids together, except their hybrid citizens are turned into sacrifices every year for their false god that the humans worship. the god is said to promise a bountiful blessing to get rid of all hybrids, depicted as monsters in the society.

muse b is a hunter and hybrid who works undercover as muse a’s right hand. during the preparation ceremony for the sacrifices, muse b helps their fellow hybrids escape. their plan was successful, except muse b was sentenced to court the next morning after muse a found out they tricked them.

fighting for their life and the justice of their kind, muse b kidnapped muse a in attempt to show them that hybrids aren’t like the children stories they were told by the royals tales.

A crown could merely appear as a form of accessory to wear on the top of someone's head. However, in the world of Synaid, these gems bestow a large value in terms of public status, respected and hated by many. Ataraxia is the nation of wildlife and nature. The sun would always appear beyond the horizon, greeting every human and hybrid to a bright new day of crops, harvest and hunting. Despite their reputation for having rich agriculture, this city has a god that only the people speak of in their nation.

"Every ounce of blood counts..."

The humans worship Arylis. A god who had the power to eradicate traces of creatures lying about the city. For his blessing to be given, the royals must kill fifty creatures and use their blood as an offering to Arylis in the depths of Adema shrine every night on the 31st of December.

Filled with anguish and pain, the creatures despised the humans for their upbringing in addition to the royal family. Their new king was nothing more than a tyrant who sought a similar path in line with the goals of his throne. According to the creatures of Ataraxia, he held no mercy and dispatched countless of his soldiers to hunt down hybrids on the 1st of September. Whipping and beating them, he too watched his hybrid citizens wretch in the depths of his torture chamber to attain the desired quantity of blood he needed until they died.

It has been 40 years ever since the people have worshiped this god to help rid the city of its hybrids. Until this day forth, no one has dared to change fate's cycle of history.

Little do the creatures know that this god that the humans worshipped was nothing more than the product of a royal lie. From the first king's mouth fell words of spite that have been intricately woven into a story of a faux deity. And now, decades of false belief has now led to the frightening tale that has been passed down each generation, sacrificing lives under the decree of a bloodthirsty, creature-despising god that does not actually exist.

plot ⠀ i don't have a specific storyline for this so i'm literally copying and pasting the wikipedia universe description(but i've cut it down) as it's the best explanation of the plot setting. Strap in for a read!

Magic is real, but "mundanes" are largely unable to perceive it. Due to their mana, the magical energy that all sorcerers create and use, magic-wielders are constantly in danger from mana-eating monsters called maleficaria. Maleficaria, or "mals", are particularly attracted to young sorcerers just after puberty, and ninety-five percent of magic children do not survive to adulthood. Elite communities of wizards live in structures known as enclaves, which are far easier to defend from mals, but these are difficult to build and access to them is jealously guarded, creating a deep class divide.

The Scholomance was built as a haven where wizard children can learn magic in a safer environment until they are able to defend themselves. The school was constructed in the Void, a space outside of reality, and as such has a number of strange properties, even bordering on sentience. It is connected to the physical world at only one point, the graduation gates. Students are magically transported into the Scholomance and have no contact with the outside world until graduation day four years later, when they exit the school via the gates. There are no adults; students are provided with a curriculum, materials, and assignments by the school itself.

The safety of the Scholomance is relative. Its magical wards and mechanics can keep out most maleficaria, but not all, and half of all students are killed before graduation. Half of the remainder perish during graduation itself, when they must run from the school proper to the gates, through an unwarded hall where hundreds of mals congregate. Most of a student's tenure at the school is spent learning spells, building mana, and creating alliances in order to make it through the run alive.

muse a is an angel. they’re tasked to care for the people of a manor. they aren’t aware of what goes on within. all they know is souls frequently appear there and they always lead them to the afterlife as a result. they hope to find a way to stop the loss of lives in the manor.

muse b is a human. they know what goes on in the manor — dealings, traffickings, all the likes. they plan to take down the whole manor. to do so, they infiltrated the staff, acting as a member. they’ll set up the necessary steps inside to start up their plot. this place has to go down.

muse a meets muse b and the two grows close. muse a falls for muse b while muse b comes to care for muse a. muse b eventually finds out about muse a’s identity and decides they must keep muse a out of their business. muse a must not know what muse b plans to do, and they must keep muse a far from the manor when they set the plan to motion.

after all, muse a is much too good for this cruel world.
