@✧ c. vernon ah here it is, aria's first day at the university, is she nervous? heck yes! she's trembling in her shoes at the thought of finally facing other females and males, a bunch of people who might look at her as some weird foreigner, from her looks and accent - or so she honestly thought and believed in her gut. after all, isn't that always a problem now and again whenever new foreign exchange students enter a university flocking with the usual cliques. the indian girl stumbled her way through the hallways, trying to keep her feet steady as she clutched onto her back- trying all how to not bump into anyone lest she wanted to get off on the wrong foot too soon.

"sorry!" she squeaks out, her body immediately moving smack into another person's back right at the entrance of what she assumes to be her first class. communications. her eyes lit up when she spotted the familiar-looking professor whom she spoke to early this morning in the office, a breath of relief being given as the person walked on over to their desk, happily choosing to ignore the girl's clumsy actions. "well, that didn't go over too bad," a small smile graces her lips, bouncy curls of black streaming down her shoulders and her front in soft waves as she greets professor kim and bows her head before moving over to settle down in her desk.

once she's fully settled in, pulling out her book and pens, added to her laptop, wanting to type down anything important if she misses out on writing, her eyes find someone that's moving in by next to her, her features are a bit a blank and curious, low-key wondering if the likes of this male would always be signaled to being late. shaking her head once, she emits a soft sigh, not wishing to draw any attention to herself, but when the question springs into action as the lecture starts up once more, aria's head perks up, but before she can raise her hand and answer - the male beside her did, which causes the young first year to simply stare at him what she supposes to be 'dumb awestruck.'

'is he for real?' he seems to be someone who has been taking this class for some time, seeing as the professor didn't even bat an eye when he and his friend tumbled in later than the others - not to mention, he does look more mature compared to her petite figure adorned with a baby face. "um, professor, may I?" once getting the slight nod from the stunned professor, some students snickering under their breath, aria herself wanted to chuckle at how idiotic the male next to her sounded so confident yet so wrong, she cannot help but stand up, head held high as she proudly recites the correct answer from the top of her head. after all, the journalism major didn't get into the university out of pure luck, she's brilliant.

"a red herring fallacy is an attempt to redirect a conversation away from its original topic. a red herring is used by introducing an irrelevant piece of information that distracts the reader or listener. this can be intentional or unintentional. so basically, what he just said, it's quite the opposite so to speak," smiling as she spouted out the answer in sheer confidence, her dark orbs briefly glanced next to her, not really caring to keep her gaze on the male for long before peeking back at the professor, knowing that she's right and she would be approved in a matter of seconds.

@✧ aria the day got off to a typical start. it always began with vernon grabbing a quick bite from the breakfast bar the fraternity house chef prepared then speed walking to class to ensure he’d at least make it before the “no later than 10 minutes or you’re absent” mark. his communications professor had always been a stickler for punctual attendance and he never understood why when it was only just an introductory public speaking class. along the way, he ran into his friend who shared the same class as him and they made it with at least 3 minutes to spare.

when they both entered the cramped classroom, the scattered desks were filled with lively students as they constantly talked on top of each other. the professor stood at the front of the room typing away at their laptop, probably busy with setting up the lecture presentation. the two glanced at each other incredulously when they realized the only available seats were near the professor, as if they weren't the ones at fault for putting themselves in that predicament. quietly admitting defeat, the two made their way toward two open spaces in the front and settled down haphazardly. vernon took one for the team and sat in the desk closest to the podium, unaware of the other soon-to-be threatening presence next to him.

as the lecture went on with the male student listening attentively, the professor suddenly took a firm stance in front of the classroom. “okay, now can anyone tell me what the red herring fallacy is?” the professor asked as their eyes scanned the sea of students, waiting for a raised hand or notion that a student would answer. it was a random question that came from their previous lecture, and no one dared to speak a word except one person.

“isn’t that a fallacy where people use arguments that are popular beliefs to appeal to the audience.” vernon blurted out. he wasn’t sure if he was right but that’s what popped up in his head and it made a lot of sense to him.

the silence was deafening, even the professor wasn’t sure on how to react to the wrong answer they just heard.
