Before we begin, introduce yourself. Why are you here today?
Hi, my name is Selena Gomez. I was introduced to the coven back in 1987. I'm here to tell my story.
Hi, my name is Selena Gomez. I was introduced to the coven back in 1987. I'm here to tell my story.
You say you were introduced in 1987, that makes you pretty young.
Yes, though 59 might sound super old to humans, it's exceptionally young in comparison to those that i'm surrounding with. A lot being over thousands of years old, even.
What is it like being so young in the coven?
It's definitely harder than being older, for we're certainly less experienced than the others. Inexperiencce can get someone into a lot of trouble, whether it be making the mistake of feeding from a human, or even not knowing what is expected from the coven, and what they expect from you.
Have you made those mistakes?
Unfortunately, yes. I've lived most of my life in a way that I didn't want to live it, completely micromanaged by the person that changed me. Everything he does, unless he's doing his work, I'm required to stay by his side. I've been naïve too many times, to think that I could continue to get away with things like that. I caused a lot of trouble that could've been prevented.
You mention being required to spend your time with the person that changed you - why's that?
Honestly? I couldn't tell you. I believe it's his punishment for turning me in the first place.
Do you hate him for what he did to you?
No. But it's certainly complicated and our relationship now is ... unexpected, I think, on both ends. But there's a lot of trust to be built on both sides and I couldn't picture a life without him next to me.
What kind of punishment have you received?
Typically, the one that makes the mistakes will receive the punishment, but that's not necessarily the case with me. I think it goes back to the relationship I have with my sire. He's always wanted to protect me, but I know he wouldn't admit it. My punishment has been seeing him in pain because of me.
Can you tell me the story of how you were changed?
Surprisingly? This is something you'd see in some cheesy vampire movie. There's really nothing special to it. At the end of the day, I was attacked and left for dead but was changed anyway. I found my way back to the manor on my own. You see, when someone else's blood is in you? You get their memories. I got his. It brought me home, to him.
What is it like? Do you prefer it over being a human?
There are certainly ups and downs to this supernatural life. The ups? Ungodly strength and speed, senses heightened. Downs? The "gift" of eternity is absolutely no kind of blessing. You lose those around you. You live a life surrounded by death and loss on a daily basis. You're built to kill.
If someone wanted to be changed, voluntarily, what would you say to them?
It's not worth it. Whatever you're going through right now? It'll pass. I would kill to have my life back.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
I'd like to say... always be alert. You're never safe. Whether it be in the daytime, Lycan's work throughout the town. When it's night time? You could easily be caught within a situation that's just the wrong place at the wrong time. Keep your eyes open. Keep your ears alert. Or the darkness will sweep in and swallow you whole.
