Soft laughter hangs in the air around the table as the partygoers joke and banter back and forth about their training days. For many of those chosen as teachers at the academy it is not their first time meeting and over the years they have become quite comfortable with one another. Former squadmates, classmates, or even ex-lovers are not uncommon in these gatherings and you know you have at least a few of those among their number as you find a seat with your fresh drink. It is one of these that begins to speak when they notice your presence again.
The tale is an old one and certainly not one of your finest moments but the jovial mood and your relaxed nature allows for it to be told, despite certain absurd embellishments being added for dramatic effect. At least until it starts to get to the end and you can already see where it is going off of the rails, the teller spurred on by both your lack of reaction and the guffaws from the gathering crowd. This is about to get either very anticlimactic or very interesting.
You set your drink calmly to the side and sit forward in your seat, folding your hands lightly in your lap as your eyes widen in what could only be a warning look when you lock gazes with your old friend. They laugh it off and continue anyway, causing you to clear your throat rather loudly as you shake your head from side to side. The bemused smile on your face from earlier lingers but it is slowly falling. It is the second warning and that too they seem to breeze right past it.
“So there they were, running up the spiral staircase as if they were being chased by a hydra…” they continue. But your mind is elsewhere as your hands circle in front of your chest, the subtle growing power moving through your fingertips while you summon clear liquid out of thin air. The water manifests, a crystal sphere that is nearly perfect in shape as you give them one last chance to halt their tale. Again, they ignore the signs. “Screaming, they burst through the door atop the western tower and climb up the battlements. No kidding! Buck na-”
Before they get the final word out, you let loose your watery bolt and settle back into your chair with a contented smirk. The aim is true and you don’t even watch the result as you hear the impact, knowing their drenched face probably shows more surprise than anything else. Raucous laughter fills the space in response and you casually snatch your drink from where you had set it on the table as if nothing had happened at all.
