So rpr has been dead. ย I personally am not online quite as often as I used to be, but whenever I do have the time to check in, nothing seems to be quite active anymore. ย I don't see people constantly putting out blog posts and nonaus seem to be losing public interest. ย Aside from real life stuff (which is totally understandable because I'm busy myself), what's going on? ย Are people getting bored? ย Is there something people are looking for? ย What are we missing?

Also, a friend and I are interested in creating an exclusive group au rp. ย Basically every character would be involved in a grand plot. ย Still thinking it over though because of several factors, including the activityโ€”or lack thereofโ€”on rpr. ย Do lmk if you're interested, but otherwise the main point of this post is the paragraph above.

On another note, I hope you all are doing well! ย It's really hot out and a lot of is happening (wildfires, tornadoes, and of course, the people of Gaza and Congo), so please stay safe out there. ย

we're lacking an engaging au / oc rp that isn't too time consuming to get into. i noticed a lot of them have a hundred too many things that they force you to do before you're able to actually roleplay and it's so overwhelming to me personally. also the lack of genres in these kind of rps are a bit upsetting, considering the potential they have?
anime rps are the only thing that interest me right now, just because of the many possibilities i can have with my characters. i guess i just don't like things being too restrictive nowadays OTL

I took a few months break to focus on important irl stuff and now that I'm back... Rpr seems so uninteresting. I thought it was me and the changes in my life but it seems it's a shared feeling. No interesting places to join, it's just a bunch of nonaus that are all very similar.

This tends to just be my "Get my mind off everything else" place, but lately I've felt a real dip in my activity. Life is hectic and trying to wrangle your way into a clique is exhausting.

I want something where I can be a bit wacky without going overboard. Serious, but not to the point of "Your character is about to die any moment now." Just a second life of anything (or anything magical, hint hint nudge budge)

Hope you're doing good babe <3

primarily aus in general keep me interested, and id love to see an au where there is a story and everybody is a part of it, not just a few select people.

as for a group au...obviously im interested lol

literally joined an nonau but ended up leaving because idk wasn’t feeling attracted nor kept me interested, and none of nonaus do lately, so im hesitating to join because i also dont want to character hog. maybe a semi au or an au idk. maybe still that bridgerton au or just some interesting chill aus where you can develop your character. although city/town aus are done a lot, i feel like you get a lot of possibilities to make your character reliable and just grow. a plot rp sounds intriguing but, usually friends tend to grab the most interesting and important skeletons or roles, and other people just end up feeling left aside.

So this is something that I’ve been thinking heavily about for the last couple of weeks as I work on two rps of different genres.
I think in general people have fallen into one of the categories heathens mention or like himbos have become disconnected to kpop/rpr. I think we (speaking specifically as an admin) need to stop trying to cater to “what the people want” since the reality has unfortunately become that people in general seem to either not know what they want or simple want something that will give them instant gratification. So I think we should go back to just making rps that interest us, and let the people that it entices join and just go from there. Rpr in general has become a popularity contest and it’s sad. If we shift the focus to what we (as admins) have muse for and a passion for, I think I that translates into the rps we make and therefore will be felt by the members of the roleplay as well. The lack of activity shouldn’t be a deterrent, but rather a motivator to take the time to dedicate to something specific. At least that’s where I’m at anyway. I’ve spent hours making maps and lore and storylines and have stopped myself several times to ask “what’s the point of all this work if no one joins?” But I suddenly remembered why I started rping in the first place and joined rpr. I love writing. I love to meet new people and connect with them. I love to plot and write dynamics of all kinds with all kinds of people. But most importantly, I love to create. I’m a creator at my core. Whether it’s world building, making characters or simply writing stories (as an aspiring author). And I think those of us who are in the same boat, we all have different ideas which is great, but rather than trying to (whether blatantly or subtly) try to “one up” each other, we should go back to the age of affiliates, where like minded admins came together to create a collective of rps that were different even if under the same genre. When that happened, we had less of the same types of rps (like the 500000000000000 nonaus and rps).

Kinda word vomited but like I said I’ve been thinking on this for a few weeks now djbfjfnnf

honestly I just don’t have as much time currently as I used to. back in 2012 I was a high school kid with next to no responsibilities besides going to school and coming home. now I’m a working adult in university it’s a lot harder to find the time to sit down and write when all my downtime needs to go elsewhere. I’d love to be able to write seriously and not just sit in rp’s and chat but there’s no timeee.

As for actually writing, I find that really thrives in aus where there is a lore and you have to actually craft a character backstory. At least those are the rp’s where I’ve had some of the best memories. Rp’s that are overly complicated or finicky tend to turn people off, I’ve noticed.

The group au idea sounds fun! I think sometimes once an rp gets too big it can also be what kills it. Maybe something like a limited time rp or a pop-up type thing where it’s a set au with a set goal in mind that a group works towards (I’m just spitballing)

I had joined a horror type of au before - it didn't particularly last long but i would like to see something like that again? Or like, more dark style aus if that makes sense? though for other things too... example being cyberpunk? like i had one in mind, it's still in my drafts as it still needs info filled out but i wasn't sure on that? Greek Mythology would be interesting too (i also have a mythology in drafts)
though group au? would that be like everyone builds their own character, the muns can have their own one on one plot but everyone also has a plot that's considered main? if so, i did kind of attempt that before and i would be down to do it again!

city aus ex are alright but i see a lot of them popping up :T i'd like something more unique pls.

this might be way out there but why aus and nonaus are dying quickly
I don’t think people are just bored
people don’t vibe with people (i won’t use hate because that’s a strong word) hence so many of the same rps pop up at once so people have their own space (theory)
some people need a little hand holding (affectionate)
some people don’t write anymore but like to convince themselves they do (coughs guilty sometimes)
some of the best aus are too complicated for people or they’re just too busy (damn we’re getting old)
toxicity / cliques (stuff like icing people out of rps just because your friends don’t like them, etc.)
admins not following their own rules but like to enforce it on others / admins losing interest themselves

fickle muse

don’t hate me but feel free to discuss i probably will not answer but I’ll listen in

im down for some actual rping
like i'm so sad that I wasn't in the prime of rpr during 2012 but i liked what i had in 2017. I wish it would go back to that but everyone who was such a good writing partner had left or all the people who had really good rp ideas left.

Omg so like your previous rp? Furry…rp..anyways. But like that? When we used to all gather together doing events solved mysteries etc etc
DNABleached 1 month ago
A decent au that actually survives with interactive events and games and not an ooc chat that is cliquey as hell so you can't make any connections because you're invisible ic and ooc. Like it used to be back in the day

Anyway I'm doing okay working my off as usually haha โ™ก
