what do you look for in a profile layout?

trying to get back into layout coding, but we have some questions

this is for people who use profile layouts for their muses, both for au and non-au

so in a typical layout, we would normally find:

  • basic information (name, age, gender...)
  • background
  • personality + trivia (likes, dislikes...)
  • lovers
  • ooc mun's notes
  • plots + connections
  • tracker

but just out of pure curiosity, how many of these do yall use and how many of these do yall just leave blank?

so dear profile layout users, please help a coder here to understand what perks you'd like to see in a layout when using for your muses!

in the comments, tell us what do you look for in a layout with the following format:

au: basic information, background... (example)

non-au: basic information, connections... (example)

if you use profile layouts for both au and non-au, please tell us your preferences for both kinds of layouts! your feedback will be greatly appreciated

ps: very scuffed formatting bc we're on mobile and just want to get this question out there

what a lovely blog! tysm for asking + I don't do nonaus, only aus, so every opinion is considered to be for au:
I will parrot some of the opinions below - definitely bigger lettering, I get the aesthetic of little letters, but even on mobile sometimes we gotta zoom and its just.. a mood killer; here I would also mention colors - putting a white text on light gray background just makes everything so hard to focus, I know users can change the colors on their own, but since you asked opinions xD
Similarly to ppl below, I also don't use likes/dislikes anymore, but repurpose their bulletpoint format for different things: sometimes its traits such as zodiac placements, MBTIs, blood type, etc personalization; sometimes for the character's image, height, style, eye color, etc; and more often than not i'd use it as bullet points for trivia or headcannons, that I want to update as they happen, as they naturally develop in the process of rp-ing;
another thing id love to see stylized is a timeline for the character - in aus especially its very important to know where your character was/what were they doing at X and Y times - often it helps with connections you want to form in the past, so a timeline at a glance would be so helpful to have. right now I use bullet points.

tl;dr: I think its save to say that the more bullet points and lists you add - the better, as people like adding things in short form ^^

again you for your hard work!

For nonau, definitely the usual trivias, add memories too! Lover, past dps, music player, and some still use friends section ive seen too! And ooc section!

For au: honestly I think the same things could apply, and what you listed!

Now the technicals others are mentioning, i cant really say much about the divs and stuff like that but yeah!

Here are my stuff I can think of rn for both types! And again, these are really high level ideas so don’t worry about it if it’s above your current self! : )

I haven't used layouts in a hot minute but i'd like to get back to using them more often because as convenient as padlet is- it *can* definitely become...mundane, and there's not much you can do to make it stand out- because you can't even change the text boxes to different colors except the like 4 generic ones or use different fonts that will be both mobile/PC friendly however something I do miss seeing in both aus and nonaus like someone said is just...slightly bigger fonts? or bigger layouts in general? also let me reply to comment cause this might be a huge block of text hfukdf ; u ;

I think everything you listed is exactly what I usually use. And for mature rps I add a kinks section. One thing that I find important is that the layout looks good when you change the pictures, because some are very aesthetic but it's a struggle to find pictures of your muse that match

Personally, I’m not a layout user, and utilize padlet but when I’m looking at them I can definitely say peoples layouts need to have bigger fonts. It’s really important to me whether or not I’m on a computer is that font is a reasonable size. All the stuff I see is so teeny tiny and some of us are older role players and we can’t see tiny font. So a good sizing would be really helpful so people can have their hard work perceived. Mobile friendly layouts are always in demand also!

can i be so fr
i would love to get rid of the likes dislikes section and replace it with bulletins for actual trivia and like fun tidbits about them that could be filled in a sentence format
and i’m tired of having to use square photos in every single quality layout
