Something I've happened to notice a lot in the k-pop world, and life in general, is how some people feel like it is okay for them and their biases to say and use the n-word when they aren't black, when it's really not okay. I've had to get onto a lot of people because of that, and a lot of the time they honestly don't see why it is wrong. Some of the reasons given are:
- It wasn't meant in a negative way.
- I was just singing along with the song.
- Everyone says it.
- It's just freedom of speech.
- They don't know any better.
- My friend doesn't care if I say it.
I don't care what your excuse is, and why you think it can be justified, but quite frankly it can't. It's so simple; If you aren't black, you can't say it. It has a negative past. It was used to harass and demean blacks in the past. Black people have now taken it back and claimed it as their own, although we can't completely erase the horrifying history of the word, we have now turned it into something that we can use with each other. It now has a slightly more positive meaning with it. But, like said before, we will never be able to rid of the horrible history, and even if we could we wouldn't, because it is our history, and it is now only a word for us to use. In fact the only reason I'm not typing it out now is because I don't want you reading the word out loud and thinking it's okay even that way.
Freedom of speech, does not mean you can spew out racial slurs. I don't care about what you think freedom of speech means, but I can guarantee it doesn't mean you can go around saying whatever the hell you want. Because although the government might not be able to give you consequences for it, I sure as hell can, and there is nothing holding me back from putting you in check. I also don't care if your friend lets you say it, because 9 times out of 10, that friend is either too tired of having to correct people to actually try with you, or they honestly don't care about our history as black people and the history of that word.
I've seen so many k-pop fans defend their biases for saying it.
The Kai video where he was seen saying it. - Which many people tried to say it wasn't him but I'm still on the fence about that -
BTS when they said it while rapping a song.
So many k-pop fans have the nerve to truly say that it's not a big deal, that they didn't mean it, that they don't know any better, and that is so damn insensitive. I have even see a few black fans defending them. And it's ridiculous. If you really sit there and defend any non-black person saying the n-word, I have no respect for you whatsoever. I don't give a if you think your bias didn't mean it in a negativew way or that they don't know any better, because they need to learn and fast that it isn't okay.
Like I always say, they are idols. And so if they go around spewing out the n-word, then other Koreans will too, thinking it's okay, when it's really not. Since they want to break into the American market so damn bad, they need to know what flies and what doesn't. Because as idols, and basic human beings, it is their jobs to know right from wrong.
And what really angers me is the fact that some of you think that if you put niqqa or nxgga it's okay. You aren't slick and that doesn't mean you can magically use the word. I don't care if you put niqqa, nxgga, n!gga, nippa or whatever the hell else. You won't get away with that. Let me just tell you one more time:
The n-word, is only for black people.
Again.
The n-word is only for black people.
Beat that into your mind, and now. Because I honestly won't hesitate to rip you or anyone else apart - bias or not - for using that word.
