"You and the kids, come over towards me--slowly." Minjung barked. "And--you--fellas, make one quick movement and I'll take you all down." She said pointing her pistol aimed for one of the man's hearts. "Now, while we wait, why don't one of you mind telling me about the warehouse in Jeju?"
@[Cop] Lee Minjung Boa just shrugged. She had gotten used to the cops as a child when her father had dealt with them. She looked down at Young, who was shaking and very close to tears. She picked him up and rubbed his back. "It's okay baby. You're going to be fine now. Mommy's here." She dried his eyes and kissed his cheek. Although Mila was trying to be brave, Boa could see she was afraid. She took her hand and squeezed it to reassure and calm the girl. She carried the boy and held the little girl's hand as they walked outside. She looked at the woman. "So how are we all getting to the station?" She wasn't being smart. She was just being logical.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa "Enough." Minjung yelled the minute the knife plunged into a piece of wood near one of the men. With her gun still cocked, she moved it between Kwon and the five other men. "In about three minutes--the rest of Seoul P.D. will come barging in through that door. Now, you all can either go quietly--or it's going to get really loud in hear very quickly." She breathed.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung When the door banged open, Boa grabbed the kids and pushed them behind her, so they couldn't be harmed. She stared at the armed woman who had a gun trained on her. What was the deal with today? Damn! As if she didn't already have enough on her plate, people were adding to it. She sighed.
Still watching the woman, she gave her a once over. "Who are you?" The lady looked familiar, but she couldn't place her. She knew too many people. That was the moment that Young pointed out that the gun she held was police issued. Boa realized he was right and patted his head. "You're right baby." She then turned her attention back to the woman. "If you're a cop, then shouldn't you arrest them for kidnapping?" She pointed at the 5 men. One was trying to sneak away, but before he could, Boa threw a knife right next to his head. "What part of don't move don't you understand? You're lucky she showed up when she did, because nobody messes with my kids and gets away with it." She was still livid and at least one of her tattoos was visible, but she didn't care. She just wanted to get the kids out of here safely and get back to the party.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa Waiting for the right moment, Minjung watched Kwon go inside the building she had been staking out. Moving to the window, she saw the outline of three tall shadows and two smaller ones. Trying to get a better look in she knelt down and peered in.
"Six on one?" She thought to herself. It was too late to call for backup now, but the options seemed to be slim. She didn't want to just let Kwon go, but at the same time new that the Black Diamonds did not take lightly to cops. "Come on now Minjung--you've got this far." She argued to herself until finally she saw the room light up a little and a few of the shadows move out of site. Drawing her gun, Minjung cocked back the pistol in her hand, approached the door and subsequently pushed it in her with her foot with a loud bang. "Freeze!" She yelled aimed her gun multiple targets as she now saw the full picture. Seeing a few people, Minjung focused her target on Kwon.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung As all of the men suddenly left the room, she took that moment to pick the lock on the door. Before they'd left, the biggest thug had tied both children up. She slipped inside without making a sound and pulled out her knife. Keeping an eye on the door they'd left through, she cut the kids free.
She looked from one to the other, and pit a finger to her lips before pulling the tape from theirs. Young clung to her, but Mila looked as if she were ready to fight. It made her smile. That was her girl, but she wasn't letting them grow up the way she'd been forced to. It wouldn't be fair and she wanted better for them. Bending down, she whispered. "Mila, take your brother outside and wait for me." At that moment, the men came back. Without looking at the kids, she yelled 'run' and focused on her targets.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa As Min Jung quietly followed Kwon a solid knot of nerves began to start in her stomach. It had never really gone away since her sister had been taken, but on nights like this it was especially present. Like a second heartbeat it throbbed, fueled by anger, resentment, bitterness, and desperation.
Watching from afar, it was hard to see but it had seemed as she peeked around the corner of one of the brick buildings that Kwon's paced had slowed to a stop and her gaze fixed on something. Glancing around for a better angle, Min Jung waited for Kwon to move again.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung As she ran, in the direction Mila had said she was taking her brother earlier, the nauseous feeling came back. She knew she was getting close. That's when she saw a shadowy figure hovering over two much smaller ones. She was looking at them through a window. Mila spotted her and she put a finger to her lips as she faded into the shadows.
Just as she hid, the man looked outside to where the girl had been looking. She then saw Mila hold up 5 fingers as the man turned his back to her. She nodded and decided what she would do. At first she didn't see Young, but when she did, he was frightened and she'd seen the cuts on Mila's little chubby cheeks. It made her blood boil. She was so focused she didn't realize she was being followed.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa Placing herself carefully towards the outer right near one of the back doors, Min Jung surveyed the crowd and soon spot her target for the night. Keen to be spotted easily, she ate from the food table meticulously and watched. Noticing Kwon rushed demeanor, she knew something was up and took a careful scan of the crowd again. "Hm, no one seems on edge." Min Jung said to herself.
As the room continued to fill up with people, it made it easier for her to move through the crowd unnoticed. Just as she had made her way close to Kwon, the woman made a shifty exit through a side entrance. Immediately, Min Jung's pulse rose. She couldn't lose this lead, not this easily. Looking around for the nearest exit, she clutched her purse and headed out towards the lobby. Turning a corner to the restrooms, she found and welcomed exit sign above one of the doors and gently pushed it open. Sneaking out the back of the building, Min Jung stood silent and unclasped her clutch to take out her gun.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung Boa came out of her office and down the stairs. She was headed for the door when Joo stopped her. "Boa maybe I should go. I can smell them. You can't." She knew Joo had a point, but they were her responsibility. She shook her head. "No. I have to do this, but I'll call if I need you." She patted his arm and smiled. She really did love him, but she needed him to be alright in case something happened to her.
Before she turned to walk away, she leaned close to his ear. "I need you to go to my office at HQ. I left the raffle prizes in a big box in the closet. Can you pick them up and bring them here to be distributed please?" She pecked his cheek and ran out. He knew where the keys were. And yes. She had her work office, her home office and her office at the center. Now that it was open, she'd be spending most of her free time here.
As she went out into the night air, she paused, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Expelling the air from her lungs, she looked at the sky and offered a silent prayer. 'Please let me find them safe and alive.' As she thought back to the conversation she'd had earlier with Mila, she had a good idea of where to begin her search and she ran in that direction.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa After a quick dash to get ready and head over to the youth center. Min Jung sighed and sat back for a moment to survey the area. "Lots of cop cars--not the precinct though--must be uptown." She mumbled to herself. Looking carefully to see if anyone stood watch, she saw the coast was clear but decided to stay parked across the street just in case.
Glancing at her discarded holster on her passenger's seat, she thought for a moment and carefully loaded her gun and placed it inside the oversized clutch that matched her champagne dress. It was always times like this where a weird feeling took over her. The time in between, getting one step closer she hoped to tracking down her sister. It was a sicking mix of hope and steady need for patience amongst the restlessness that had settled in her veins.
Taking a deep breath, Min Jung assured herself one last time before going inside. Playing quaint with everyone she came in contact with, she knew at least half the officers here tonight were dirty, but she would have to deal with them later for now, she on the look out for Kwon Boa.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung As was her obvious duty, Boa walked around and mingled for the beginning of the evening. There were already so many kids there, but her babies still weren't. She was getting anxious and she missed them. She began to feel nauseous and she knew why. Her stomach only acted this way when something was wrong or if she ate beef. At the moment, she chalked it up to the food.
Soon, she made her way into the gym where the kids and adults were able to sign up for different classes and activities. It appeared that her and Daehyun's martial arts class was going to be pretty popular. That was good. She wanted people to learn how to be safe and take care of themselves.
At that moment, she felt a hand on her shoulder and she turned her head to see who it was. She looked around eagerly when she saw it was Joo. "Hey honey. Where are the kids?" He frowned at her. "I thought they were with you. They didn't come home after school, so I assumed that they were with you. Are you telling me they aren't." She took a deep breath and let it out. "No. They aren't. Oh no. We have to find them. No. You stay here. I will find them." With that, she went up to her office and removed her dress to put on capris and wife beater. She could move easier than in an evening gown.
@[B.D. Leader] Boa Looking at her watch Min Jung swore underneath her breath, "Damn it." She sighed throwing down the file in her hand and rising to her feet. After gaining a lead last week into the Black Diamonds recent activity involving children, she mentally slapped herself for realizing that the youth center's opening was tonight. Quickly grabbing her gray pea coat, she rushed to her car and dashed away to her apartment.
Climbing the stairs, the dim lights of the third story apartment building painted the walls in putrid and shaded green glow. Making her way to the end of the hallway, her boots clicked and squeaked against the pale blue carpet and hit a sudden stop when she reached her door.
After many years of undercover work and such, she knew better than to have more than one lock on one's door, but at a time like this it seemed to be more of just an annoyance. Taking a couple of minutes to get inside, Min Jung didn't bother to turn on her lights, and took no time in hopping in the shower.
@[Cop] Lee Minjung Boa had been in her office all day and then had had to shower and change there before going to the opening of her new community/youth center. The turn out so far had been amazing, but she was even more excited to see what her babies thought. She checked the time. It was getting late and they should be here soon along with Joo. She smiled and shook hands with everyone that entered including the dozen or so officers who were there. She knew most wanted to find a reason to arrest her.
Another chilly winter night in Seoul and Min Jung sat nestled amongst recent news headlines and case files. The smell of old coffee and takeout hung in the air as she poured over the mounds of paperwork. Not noticing as fellow cops headed home or out on night watch, the precinct soon emptied out.
