“S-s-s-syst-- system Over… load. Commen-mencing system re-e-e-eboot.” My voice was near monotone like the Ai’s I used to communicate with out of boredom. My body convulses like I was having a , with limbs rigid as steel planks and pupils dilated until my irises were nowhere to be seen. It was odd enough that I was birthed artificially, with a program implanted into my brain it just made me into more of a freak than I already was.
A robot implanted into a human brain. A freak. A war machine.
“System re-reboot commencing in five minutes… and thirty seconds…” I stammer out like it was a routine thing, with rigid limbs trembling under the force of my own malfunctioning mind. I stare up to the ceiling with a blank canvas of an expression as my lips stammer out more technical jargon, heart rate increasing and decreasing as my brain worked overtime to keep things in order. I wonder how it had gotten to this point. Maybe it was the nightmare. I couldn’t remember, I woke up like this.
“System reboo-oot commencing in t-two minutes.” I start to shake my head until my vision swims and darkens. I see blurry objects surrounding me on all sides, soon slowly inching closer towards my convulsing body. The sight was causing my throat to close up, I didn't know if it was in fear or it was my system trying to kill itself unintentionally. On impulse my hand went for my throat, clawing at the flesh. I suddenly forgot how to breathe and honestly this was the most fear I felt since I escaped the lab. The fear of dying because of my own mind was becoming a reality if someone didn't come and find me before then.
“S-system reboot in… ten se-- seconds,” I choked out, my own blood caking under my nails as I try to make myself breathe again. The objects begin to swim around me like fish, whispering things to me but I couldn't decipher them. The kept coming closer and I was too weak to fend them off. They were just hallucinations though, they won't hurt me. They aren't real.
“System Reboot Commencing.” There were no stammers in my speech and my voice was monotone again. My body becomes completely still, face blank and cold as steel. I can see clearly again but I can't comprehend my surroundings since brain has just shut down. My pupils are back to their normal size, chocolate hued irises showing through under the yellow artificial light in the room.
“Vitals stable. Body temperature stable. Neural functions stabilized. Startup commencing.” My fingers begin to twitch, then my toes, I blink my eyes, then sit up. I don't know where I am, this isn't the lab. Where is Dr. Carrigan?
@sen m. 〈 eden "it's my job, of course im staying here" Shaking her head, she was quite glad the male decided to not be difficult and lay down like a good boy, or else she would have to do what she did to the others. a punch always worked and besides that, she was a lot stronger than anyone could ever think of only for the sole reason of how they did not know a thing of what was covered beneath the loose, comfortable clothes that concealed away the strength of her body. she stared at him, her actions halting upon hearing the words spilling past his lips before shaking her head, almost looking disappointed by the answer she was given. an excuse as she knew the taste of smoke better than he could imagine, she knew of the urge to put one between one's lips and inhale till the mind was numb.
"that was one of the worst excuses i heard honestly, just cause its hard doesn't mean its impossible" her words were still whispered in the silence of two of them. there was no one but them in the building minus the guards that walked around given the fact that it was quite late- well more like early in the morning for anyone to be awake. gripping the dark, wooden chair; she tugged it towards the bed and allowed herself to get comfortable in the warmth. one leg came up, crossing over the other while her hands crossed over her chest. leaning back into the wood's comfort; she stared at him. her gestures and the way she sat a bit conflicting from how every girl should but she was just not every 'girl'. "You can visit me, I'll gladly knock you out" the smile that graced the facial features were filled with hints of playfulness, the dark gaze concealing secrets beneath them filled up with mischief that wanted to burst out but was kept contained.
"we are at nurse's office, and everyone knows who the nurse is, so i don't think there is anything suspicious unless you want to bang and scream around" It was in her nature to blunt, her words lacked filter and it had been heard by the people who talked to her more times than she could count with her fingers. but again, she was not someone who would like to change something about herself just because one was uncomfortable, perhaps it was too much pride or what the ever people called it these days, but accepting the way she was was a duty of the friends as she did the same.
She became silent, staring at him and scanning his face for any more bruises she might have missed, but thankfully there had been no broken spots. "so whats your story, the reason such a young kid is shoving smoke in his lungs? everyone has a story thats why they are here...i have to say im quite fond of this place, its fun"
@jiwon k. "what about you, are you going to stay here with me?" a curious gaze met hers along with a hopeful tone. He believed if she weren't going to stay with him, there was no point in staying at all. He could lay down the same in his own bed anyway. A part of him didn't like hospitals or clinics for that matter. It feels like the whole attention is on him and it's not a nice feeling especially since he isn't that open. besides, the fact that he dislikes health lectures makes things worse.
obediently, the male laid back down on the bed and maintained his stare at the nurse. In spite of everything, if he was going to stay here, he preferred a little company to soothe his sleep deprived state. The nurse does seem like a nice person, one he could actually tolerate the presence of regardless of her taking away his pack. "I got used to smoking, it's hard to quit now." He can't just quit smoking because a nurse told him it's bad for his health. It's not like he didn't know so, he just couldn't care less when he had much more important things to think about.
Like the reason why these people are being kind to people like him and providing them with shelter. The owner didn't appear to be the nicest person he would meet nor were his words convincing. He knew most people were victims of some sort but everything about this program seemed pretty suspicious and his mind was working 24/7 to try and figure this out. if anything, he could use this time with the nurse to get a few answers.
A thick eyebrow of his raised up at her words, finding them rather surprising. "do I pay you a visit when I can't sleep?" to think that she was willing for him come to her at such late hours, that was pretty surprising. Maybe it was a good idea, maybe not but one thing he knew is that, he needed to talk to someone about everything which happened lately. Someone like her could understand him and not get emotionally invested in it like anyone would, or so he liked to think.
"wouldn't it be rather suspicious if i meet a beautiful woman like yourself every night?" his eyes studied every little move she made, being the observant person he is; it was clealy obvious that she was brought here too fast to care about how she looked like. although she wasn't looking that messy for someone that sacrificed their sleep to tend to a reckless guy's wounds.
@sen m. 〈 eden "you're feeling dizzy so yeah you are gonna stay here till i release which wont be anytime soon, lay back down" this was not the main job she had done, but this was the role she had grown to get used to, and she was quick to reach up, fingers that held not much delicacy tapping against his shoulder to silently motion him to lay back down instead of taking the dizziness that was coming with the hit on the head. she could easily guess how he felt, after all the bruise was a nasty one and when he himself was gonna change the bandages; he was gonna notice how much he had ed up while running with lack of sleep when the brain system easily could give up and shut down. she was not scolding in words, those words were perhaps heard by the cruelty of society standards a thousand times, and for sure he knew of all the that pack of smoke could do. those lungs were to die out and Jiwon was aware, she was aware of addiction, she was aware of the amount of 'need' one could create when the brain replaced nicotine with the right things that were supposed to keep healthy. but 'healthy' wouldn't be the easiest word to define the people of this place, where their mentality was to scarred to hurt more.
"please define 'far too addicted to me' darling, you set the limits yourself, and your limit is on the word 'can't' now" the words hold the melody of softness, knowing triggering memories may lay beneath the ashes of brain. letting the pack of cigar stay there is the first though, no attempt in sudden harsh throwing of the pack out of the window or into the silver trash bin resting beside the table. aggressive behavior never worked, perhaps that's how the faith had led them into what was called 'safety'. "instead of running, i suggest you just pay me a visit next time" her fingers are quick to tug the hoodie of the large sweater up to conceal the hair that looks rather messy. the lack of proper clothing which consists of the oversized, black sweater and a jeans clinging to her legs only speaking of how much she had rushed to the clinic- though luckily not much distance were placed between the buildings. "just...dont run, like no harsh activities unless you want ti split your head open"
@jiwon k. Pain washed over Sen's face as his fingertips involuntarily reached up to touch the bandage. "god, it hurts" a faint whisper slipped past his lips along with a few whimpers out of pain. He tried to sit when he suddenly remembered what happened before he blacked out. He wasn't sure how it happened, everything seemed blurry and occurred so fast. However, he sure took the lesson not to run when he's sleep deprived lest him gaining another injury. Eventually, the male sat down on the bed and shifted his gaze to the concerned nurse. "Is it serious?" the question ringed in his head all the while and he couldn't help but ask, fearing an injury that would prevent him from doing what he has been doing. "i-i couldn't sleep so I went out for a walk but I found myself running again." his palms found the edge of the bed and held onto it, head lowered in guilt for what happened to him. for all he knows, he could've died out there. Perhaps it was the reason why he started explaining himself subconsciously. "I'm sorry, ill try to be more careful next time. what time is it? I'm sorry if they sent you here just for me." His head turned to get a glimpse of the light coming from the window until he turned his head and spotted the pack of cigarettes, freezing in his place.
He didn't make any move meanwhile the nurse started cleaning his cuts once more. His eyes were glued on the pack and he suddenly had the urge to smoke one, having had his last cigarette hours ago. He knew it was unhealthy but it wasn't like he cared. He was chased down by the police, parents angry at him and his only brother under the grave, there was nothing more to lose. Nothing left but his worn out soul which he wasted on smoking and running down paths till he hit his head somewhere and lost conscious. "I can't quit smoking, i'm far too addicted to it." only when she looked at him that he met her concerned gaze, sensing the firmness in her words like she cared for his wellbeing but it wasn't that surprising, doctors and the people that work with them usually cared for people, it was nothing special. His eyes closed momentarily in pain as his lips parted to whisper to her. "will i stay here? im feeling kind of dizzy."
@sen m. 〈 eden "oh i see you're awake" that was the whisper just after she heard the sound of his voice, not really surprised by the question that wast thrown at her. late at night, a phone call was enough to interrupt her and the ugly need to rest on the bed. to be fair it had been only five minutes since she had laid on the damn bed just to get a call with an ugly bruise written all over it. she could only wonder how one could push his body enough to leave himself in a messed up state such as the one before him. the hit had been hard enough to leave a red mark over the smooth forehead, the forehead that now held a white bandage to conceal the newly found flaw that had tainted him under the dark of the night. "guess you fell so hard you passed out, you really should reconsider before running in the middle of the night again" she was not an idiot, the black circles beneath his eyes indicated the awful state of insomnia he was in, and she knew most of the people who were brought here suffered from such disease; she was the same minus the fact that she knew how to exhaust herself to force the body to shut down on its own without the force of the sleeping pills, getting rid of them after addiction was hard enough.
The pack of cigar 'she' had found inside his pocket was rested on the table just a bit further away from the bed, out of his reach for sure before she pressed the last touched, reaching for the towel once more to clean up the drops of blood on the forehead where she had to stitch up. it was gonna be a nasty bruise, but perhaps it would give him a piece of mind to not run when insomnia hits and lungs beg for more oxygen than the brain could offer. the clock was already showing early hours of morning and the window was enough to give a little peak of the small blue starting to cast a shadow over the black wings of the night. "there you go, lucky you, you didnt break your head, though i suggest you to quit smoking if you wanna save yourself from insomnia you have" her words were light whispers, though the sharp gaze was firm with a little flicker of scolding in them. "what were you thinking? i really wouldn't appreciate a dead body on this bed"
@jiwon k. It was no surprise that he couldn't sleep. it has been long since he had proper rest on that matter. However, whenever he'd consider going out, the words of the owner would ring in his head, reminding him of the curfew. Maybe he should've listened to him. The moonlight shone down in that cloudless night, lighting the surrounding area as though guiding Sen down his path. Dark eye bags indicated the insomniatic state the male was in as he started jogging down the island. Instinctively practicing his new job which was more of a getaway from his own thoughts. It wasn't long until he picked up his pace and started running, feet pounding the ground and heart beats throbbing in his head due to the sleeplessness and health condition which he wasn't completely aware of. Sen's lungs begged for air that got stolen away by the haste of his movement but he gave no concern to it. He only quickened his pace, eyes narrowing and lips parted to allow the oxygen to come in when he realized that he needs to stop. But the world became far too blurry for him to stop. Everything rushed by in a blur and he knew the pain was coming. He just didn't realize how close it was until he felt the impact and the world fell away, leaving him unconscious.
The wounded male woke up to a bright light in a seemingly some sort of a hospital room. only that it wasn't as big and there sure was no hospitals in this island. He turned his head to the left, only to see a long haired nurse, tending to his wounds. he figured someone must've seen him out and brought him here for treatment. but the question was, is he dead? did he perhaps hit his head hard enough? because he certainly didn't comprehend the fact that there's a woman on the island. From what he saw, everyone here was a male, is this the only woman? nevertheless, he parted his lips; asking the first question on his mind though there were many. "how did I end up here?"
