SHIFTERS are unique for being able to shift into their soul forme, which will be the animal of their tribe– notable tribes include the wolf, hawk and lizard tribes. they can learn additional soul formes with age, but it is an extremely difficult practice.
they have superhuman strength, and senses of smell, taste and hearing, even in human forme.
legend has it that a shifter who lives for long enough will become a half human-animal hybrid forever, and become a spirit of their homeland, but this is pure myth so far.

Shifters live in tribes according to their inherited soul forme, though some cross-tribal unions have been permitted. these tribes rarely see eye to eye, and have often engaged in inter-tribal wars even during the war period against the other three races. yet due to their large litters and huge population, these small skirmishes have never affected their odds of survival.
they are extremely loyal to their families, but many strike out on their own to go rogue, especially the runts of a litter.
right now, the leaders of the most prominent tribes have put their faith in an alliance lead by the high cheiftain, but even so, not all shifters are happy with the current peace accords.
