Manhattan is the smallest and most densely-populated of the boroughs located in New York City. It is located mostly on Manhattan Island next to the Hudson River.
Ongoing plot: Quest Scene - Part 3
QUEST SEQUENCE: Chanyeol - Sulli - Naeun
@[G] Adina Heather Any time now, Apollo thought, getting out from the car with a smooth movement. He gave the girls a grin, and they squealed - even the boys were adoring his red Maserati. There was no denying it looked cool, but oh, if only they knew what it was.
Things would be a lot worse, he daresay. Or not.
He was looking at the flock of student, picking no particular face to look at, but his 'other' eyes were on her; the blonde-haired female heading towards the exit, closer and closer to where he was. Apollo leaned by the door of his sport car, pulled his iPod out and pressed 'Next' just as she made her way towards him - and he gave her a grin and a wave, taking one of his earphones off.
Acting is a part of art, and he was going to play boyfriend to his own Oracle - oh, Artemis was going to be pissed at this. But it wasn't like he meant any harm.
"You, of course," the god said, the usual rich tone filling his voice. "I'm almost sure we have a date this evening."
A wink had followed his statement, and the crowd around them just buzzed with squeals and whatnot - but his eyes were on her, every single one this time.
"Let's go, sweetie?"
There's nothing wrong with the sun god picking his Oracle up from school and act as her lover, is there?
@✹ APOLLO Nothing beats the pleasure of finally being free from school.
It was Adina’s last day for her finals, and boy, was she so excited. Ever since the last summer, her life took a turn—being chosen as the Host for the Oracle of Delphi, she was both thrilled and nervous. According to Chiron, she was needed by the camp as their foreseer—their eyes and their mouthpiece (of prophecies, that is). It seemed only yesterday when she thought such things that were now her reality were just myths. It was all too amusing and exciting—who would have thought, right?
Adina fixed the strap of her sling bag on her shoulder as she hugged a folder to her chest as she walked through the hallways and into the exit. Only when she was a few steps away from the exit did she realize the flock of students—more particularly, girls—blocking the way. From where she stood, she could already see red—wait, was that a red sports car?
Some celebrity must have visited their school… but why? Is this some sort of a shooting for some TV show? Or some scripted fan service?
Unable to keep her own curiosity to herself, she squeezed through the crowd for a better view, earning herself a few (well, alright, more than a few) hurtful remarks from the other student. She chose to ignore then anyway.
Surprise came when she realized who the ‘celebrity’ actually was, and Adina almost forgot to breathe.
There Lord Apollo was in all his glory.
“Hot, hot, hot!” the girl beside her squealed, and Adina immediately made a face. Oh, boy, look at her. Adina would’ve had the same reaction had this been months ago.
“Can you stop? That’s my ride.” She shut out completely the other harsh comments as she made her way to the red Maserati, bowing slightly to look at Apollo himself. He looked so… humane. “What brings you here, Lord Apollo?”
@[G] Adina Heather It was becoming mundane. Riding the sun chariot every single day, under the same sky. But it was what made him who he was, nowadays. Before, he was widely known as the patron god of music, poetry and medicine, and now what? Just because Helios retired from his job, now he has to work extra time - not that he complained, but the name Apollo is now known mostly as the sun god... and to think that the job is something as mundane as this, though the ride was more than convenient.
But today he has something important to do.
With the oracle still doing her humanly duties, and the vision he was seeing... it seemed that this time he would have to resort towards drastic measures.
Manhattan, the bustling city. Amidst all the modern buildings, a red Maserati blazed off the road leading to a certain school—in fact, he didn't know where it was. Perks of having a divine vision: he just knew where to go. A handsome, youthful face behind the wheel of the chariot-turned-racing car, in which he could've been arrested for underage driving, he raced—against time.
The Oracle has to be in Camp Half-Blood before the sun sets. There's only two hours left.
Though of course, the moment the car smoothly stopped after a half-circle drift in front of the said school... chaos began.
No matter how bad the situation, Jinri always somehow managed to think of something to do or say; her mind always had some sort of back-up plan, some kind of retaliation. Yet, with Naeun walking away with an obvious like and Chanyeol blowing up at her (not to mention the old nickname popping up), she was left speechless. And that was scary, because Choi Jinri is rarely left speechless. (Park Chanyeol always seemed to be the exception to the rules she mentally established for herself; it was extremely irritating.)
A few seconds after she was left alone, she finally opened to speak to him. "Yeah go ahead and blame me about this 'thing', because I'm definitely the /only/ one at fault," that was close as she would get to admitting that she was at fault. (Honestly she didn't really think about what she was going to say, but words came tumbling out.) "Don't act like the victim Channi-yeol--" she cleared slightly to cover up what she almost called him. "I didn't want to be teamed up with you either," she huffs, the whole speech-thing she gave tired her out. "Gods you're so annoying!" She puts her hands to her temples and shrieks in frustration and turns away from him.
Man, if Jinri couldn't handle this now, at the start of the quest, how in the world was she going to last until the end?
After what felt like forever, Naeun finally came back, "Sorry I abandoned you guys.. I uh.. I was uhm.. hungry." Naeun grinned, and Jinri suddenly felt a wave of shame wash over her. "By the-"
"You!" With a raised brow, she turned to the voice. "I've finally found you again!"
Jinri put on a smile (her heart was pounding, , "I'm sorry but you seem to have--"
"Oh save it I have your picture right here Sulli!" Sure enough the lady pulled out a 'wanted' picture of her; the picture was probably taken at least two years ago, but one could easily see it was her--or rather /Sulli/. Oh, and look at that, there was cash a reward.
...Well, .
"After I turn you in, I'm going to take everything you have!" It was at this that Jinri started laughing, which probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but wow, take everything she had? (She had nothing.) "Oh so you think is funny huh? I'll have you know that I have a gun in my bag right now, so if you try to pull anything 'funny' I'll point it at one of your sidekicks." At that she stopped laughing (oh Gods, this lady was insane!) "Yes, hello officer--"
"Sh*t!" Out of instinct she knocked the phone out of her hand and snatched her bag. "Run!" Grabbing Naeun's hand, she dragged the girl and made a break for it; as she ran past Chanyeol she grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet.
"COME BACK HERE YOU CRIMINAL!" It was hard to hear anything over the sound of the wind. "I SWEAR I WILL FIND YOU AGAIN."
Yeah, good luck with that.
A few minutes of running later, Jinri gradually slowed down before coming to complete stop, she ducked into an empty alleyway where they wouldn't be seen. (Man she was exhausted.) She collapsed to the floor heaving in deep breathes of air, man this place stank. "We might," she spoke between breathes. "Need a new plan."
Her head was down, so she couldn't see what the other two were doing, or what their facial expressions looked like, but from the slight tension in the atmosphere she could tell the next few moments weren't going to be too pretty.
Chanyeol knew that it was one of those times where situations as bad as having arguments is not the best time at this point. Not to mention that the person you’re arguing with is one of those girls you get to love at such a bare age and just find out that she’s also the same person you’d get to go on a super dangerous quest with. And just wow, does it not get any better considering the fact that you might just lose her when you act too reckless enough in the middle of a world filled with demigod-eating monsters?
Yeah. Regardless of how much he denied it, Chanyeol /is/ freaked out about that certain little detail.
Much to his luck, Naeun suddenly had the nerve to walk her way out of the conversation, and by the looks of it, her expression doesn’t seem to mirror the hunger she had put up as an excuse. Though despite his thought of going with her and getting some grub as well, realization slowly dawned upon him that his mouth stupidly hung down low that it made him look like a human fly catcher.
Mild irritation immediately surged within the male as he was eventually left in the middle of the sidewalk with Sulli. He didn’t know why he felt that way (and he honestly did not want to feel that way towards the female), but what happened was pretty obvious and Chanyeol appeared to be mindless enough to send the brunette one sharp look before speaking up.
“Look at what you did! Gods, I did not expect this thing to get worse..” He scrunched his nose, now tearing his gaze from her, still a bit tedious that he was practically rambling in front of the female with whatever grudge that pops into his mind. “First, I get to be ‘destined’ to be a part of this dangerous quest with you, of all people, then now Naeun just walked away—did you not see the look on her face? Wow. Thanks a lot, Ssul.” Chanyeol ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration, before he turned away and sat down the street corner afterwards.
[ omg i realized that it's my turn just now so yeah.. lol btw i am starting to like all the drama rn please don't kill me-- OTL ]
Naeun stood there in silence as she let the two of them speak. It was only then did she realize the tension in the air. It was so..obvious Naeun didn't know why she didn't notice it earlier.
"Uh... Do the two of you know each other before this?" She asked, curious as to why they were behaving like this towards one another. It was so awkward for her as it was like those couple fights she would read in books and she was there...like a third wheel.
"I uh.. will be right back. I see a cafe over there and I'm starving.. I'll uh..get something for you guys too." With that, she made a dash towards the non-existent cafe she was talking about. It was too awkward for her and she couldn't stand it. Sighing to herself, she decided to just be brave and head back which was a couple minutes later.
"Sorry I abandoned you guys.. I uh.. I was uhm.. hungry." She grinned. It wasn't a lie though. She really was hungry. "By the-" Naeun was cut off when she heard an angry yell coming from a nearby girl.
"You!" The girl was pointing at- Naeun turned to look at the person the girl was pointing at. The girl was pointing at..Jinri? But why..? It was official. The child of Athena was confused, very confused. The stranger seemed furious too.
"I've finally found you again!" Naeun flinched at the girl's hostility.
Monsters. Right, Jinri let out a small sigh, she had completely forgotten to take that into account. Now with that in mind, the three basically couldn't ride any kind of transportation.
Naeun's suggestion caught her off guard. For a moment she imagined what it would look like in her head: a girl running like a mad man while dragging two others behind her. Well, there have weirder events that have happened—most of them being because of her. Plus she might be able to go so fast that her face would be unrecognizable, which would solve her own problem (she should probably tell the other two before it becomes their problem too.)
Jinri opened to reply, sure she would lose energy but at least they would be at Central Park. Chanyeol interrupted her before she even started; irrational anger forms in her, he was implying that she was weak (it would be because of him that she breaks her act.) The smile at the end made her teeter on the edge of screaming at him (because that /definitely/ didn't make her heart stop.)
"Yeah we did," Jinri's glared at him. "That's why I /should/ run, if we all run then we'll all be tired, if it's only me then you two will still be good for a fight."
She crossed her arms and glared up at the sky. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew that she was being unreasonable, and that she was just turning her sadness about 'Sulli' into anger towards him. (She was the one who told him to call her that, having these stupid reactions was... well stupid.)
With a sigh and a roll of her eyes she held out her hands. "I'm ready whenever you are, just please try not to break your legs or something dumb like that."
[ at some point can one of you see a picture of Jinri or make someone recognize her? It would make things even more interesting haha ]
Naeun had a point there—the train would risk everything. Who knows what danger welcomes them there? Though what bothered him the most was their leader’s other suggestion.
“Don’t.” He faltered, afraid to meet their eyes as he raked whatever option his mind would come up with. The lad was obviously traumatized due to that forest incident weeks back, and he couldn’t afford to see her get hurt once more even if it was for the sake of their quest. “I’m afraid it would be a bother for Sulli. I mean, what if she does lose her energy, we couldn’t let anyone take the risk right?” Chanyeol reasoned, trying to put up the stoic façade when on the inside, he was as fearful as hell. “We could just run there. It’s only several blocks away.”
He then realized how stupid he was for worrying too much. But then again, if it was for her, he wouldn’t mind at all.
“Besides, we did train so hard for kicking monster asses, right?”
Twisting another button from his accessory, the screen eventually turned back into a regular looking watch as he finally met their gazes with a small smile—trying to lighten up the atmosphere despite their struggles at the moment.
[ shorter than i expected omG FORGIVE ME GUYS-- ;; ]
[ I APOLOGIZE FOR THE MEGA LATE REPLY! I have been extremely busy with exams and life..and well..stuff like..my school's concert and stuff. ]
"Central Park." Those were the only two words that actually entered Naeun's head which was filled with panic and anxiety.
The next word that actually hit her head hard was the word 'Subway' which was a form of transportation suggested by none other than the daughter of the quest-giver, Jinri.
At the thought of subway, Naeun knew it was a bad idea. Who knew what kind of creepy, scary monsters would be lurking underground, ready to prey on demigods which climbed onto subways naively? Shivers ran up her spine just thinking about the possibility of getting eaten by crazy-hungry monsters which crave demigods.
Quickly, she shook her head, rejecting the idea almost instantly.
"No way! Who knows what monsters are lurking down there? We could get eaten up before we even reached Central Park. Let's just-" Naeun paused as her eyes scanned the area, trying to think of a way to quickly get to Central Park.
The bus? Naeun considered that form of transportation but it was risky, not only for them but for mortals too. What would happen if monsters attacked them causing mortals to get wounded too? She certainly didn't want to be the cause of that and she figured the other 2 demigods probably wouldn't want that to happen either.
"Speed." Naeun muttered as a light-bulb clicked in her head. She turned to look at Jinri.
"You have the ability of speed, right?" She asked but paused. What could they do with that ability? She wondered for a moment. Could she possibly run while pulling them along or would that slow them down? It was definitely worth a try.
"Could you..run really really fast while pulling Chanyeol and I along? I mean..it could work right? We'd probably be there in no time." She bit her lip. "But..there's a chance that you'll lose energy right..?" She guessed.
Chanyeol's quick thinking allowed Jinri to relax, Naeun had caused her to have a mental breakdown. (The daughter of Athena not knowing where to head? Who wouldn't be scared by that fact?) His words seemed to make the most sense—plus it was all they had so there was really no reason to question them.
"Okay, that seems reasonable," she crosses her arms as she speaks. "But how are we going to get all the way to Central Park?"
Honestly, if she had her way, Jinri would suggest that they take a cab—a normal cab, not some crazy ride with the Gray Sisters—but she doubted that they enough money for a fare to cover the entire trip. (Did the other two even have regular money on them?) And since taking a cab was out of question, the other types of transportation were out too. (Unless they could somehow sneak on the subway or something—actually that wasn't a bad idea, she just might bring that up.)
Without public transportation, they would have to walk. Jinri shuddered at the thought, not only was that a long way to go, many people would definitely see them —see her. Gods, while Naeun worries about the quest and Chanyeol worries about whatever he worries about, all Jinri will be concerned about is whether or not people recognize her.
(Sneaking on the subway sounded like a really good idea.)
"Because if you two don't have any better ideas, I think we should take the subway." Jinri spoke with confidence and a grin. If either Naeun or Chanyeol were to shoot down her idea, she would fire back with it being faster than walking. (On the subway, you're anonymous, no one should be paying attention to you, she wouldn't be recognized... right?)
[ ugh sorry, I don't really know how transportation or anything works over so I'm kind of just making it up off my quick google searches ]
Hearing Naeun’s statement literally made Chanyeol shift his entire attention to her. His eyes were wide—well, it was larger than how it usually were—for the thought of being utterly clueless about everything regarding this so called dangerous quest was one thing that made him freak out internally.
“You don’t?” The lad questioned her, silently assuming that she might have been fooling around or something—though he knew that this is not a joking matter, of all things. “Then how..?” The corners of his lips were tugged downwards, with brows creasing in a matter of seconds—now would be the right time to think, perhaps.
Despite their sudden helplessness, Chanyeol forced himself not to give in to the temptation of giving up too soon. Sure, they might not have any direct clue, but he supposed that something would remind them of a possibility.
It then struck him.
“The prophecy?” He eyed both of them, “It says there that we head west, right? Maybe we’re supposed to meet the receiver of the message in the west part of Manhattan, or something.” He murmured, trying to engage himself in deep thought as he raked his mind on what places would possibly the location of the said receiver.
Chanyeol then turned to look around. It seemed that the Gray Sisters had dropped them somewhere near a bridge by the river, and knowing New York, there are a lot of bridges scattered around the place. He wasn’t exactly excelling when it comes to directions. It might have given up quite a few clues, but he wasn’t that good enough to figure things out on his own. The taller male sighed, unconsciously fidgeting with his watch as he continued scanning around the area—
His watch.
Not losing any more time, he started to twist a few knobs at the side of his watch as the exterior of the accessory automatically slid upwards and extended into a wide transparent screen about four inches long on all sides. Chanyeol his bottom lip out of habit before he fixed his gaze completely to his watch and tapped a few things across the sheet of glass—a few moments later, a miniature map of Manhattan came into his view.
He flashed a relieved smile and jogged towards where Sulli and Naeun stood before showing them the map. “That’s Queensboro bridge.” He pointed at the bridge that was located a distance away from them. Chanyeol then zoomed in a certain area by the right side of Manhattan and shifted his gaze to them once more. “So we’re basically at the eastern part, and I think the only significant place to our west would be..” His index finger then dragged a huge landmark towards the middle of the screen, stating the words, “Central Park.”
[ i asked krystal about some details regarding our next location btw cx ]
“Here you are demigods, now pay up!” The 3 sisters said and Naeun immediately reached towards her backpack before fishing out a couple of drachmas she had kept especially for this type of situation. Before she could pay, however Chanyeol had snatched it out of her grasp before handing it to the sister seated at the driver's seat before opening the door and climbing out, followed by Naeun and shortly, Jinri. The moment Jinri stepped out of the cab, the taxi turned into smoke once more before driving off, who knows where.
“We’re actually here.” She heard Chanyeol saying and she nodded her head in agreement. She had thought she would've lost her life through that scary ride.
"Yeah.. now c'mon we should deliver this message." Naeun said and took a step forward before realizing something.
"Wait. I don't know who we're supposed to deliver this box to." Reality sunk in that the god Hermes, had not told her anything else. "Oh my god.. We're out here without a single clue as to who we're supposed to send this box to!" She was beginning to inwardly grow conscious to her surroundings. They were out of camp, without a clue to the next step of their quest.
Not once in her life had Jinri ever been this glad to be on steady ground; she was just about ready to kiss the dirty pavement before she stopped herself. Goodness that would have been absolutely disgusting, she cringed.
“We’re actually here.”
Hearing Chanyeol speak those words caused everything to sink in--they were in Manhattan. Her demeanor seemed to take a complete turn from what it had been moments ago. She took a look at the sight around them--not much had changed from the time she had last been here. How long was it now? Three, give or take, four years? Man did time seem to fly.
What she felt towards the borough wasn't clear, on one hand it had been her home when she was all alone; ironically, this was also the reason why she didn't like the place. Yes, Manhattan had provided her with a place to live--but she had been all by herself. Just thinking about here had saddened her, now that she was actually back, standing here, she wanted to let out a long sigh. Manhattan had a complicated spot in her heart...
But Gods did she cause so much trouble in this part of New York. (Now those memories were the parts she liked remembering.) She was pretty sure that they had put up posters of her face; ha, now /that/ was hilarious. Except, now that she thought about it... (She prayed to whichever Gods she could name of the top of her head--while apologizing for cursing them out many times before--that Manhattan had forgotten about /Sulli/.) Oh Gods, what if she caused them more human trouble than necessary, she turned to Naeun and Chanyeol--they were completely oblivious to the havoc she caused.
'Well hopefully they don't find out--I mean what are the chances of people recognizing me?'
Usually, Chanyeol would have tinkered his way out of a life and death situation like this. And apparently, this is a quest; meaning no ‘backing down’s’ whatever may happen, even if it would risk their lives to an old taxi cab of which, was pretty much controlled by three crazy blind women. (Oh—and the licensure of the said vehicle was a big question mark for him, that’s for sure.)
"OH MY GODS SHUT UP OR I'M DROPPING IT!"
Much to his surprise, (and sheer bewilderment) a familiar high pitched voice cut him off from his train of thought. Seeing the eyeball closely slipping away from her grasp made the guy’s eyes enlarge in a flash. “Hey, hey! We’ll be dead if you drop that!” Chanyeol screeched at her, though his voice seemed to falter a bit as the girl eventually handed it to the driver. ‘Darn, this girl’s always so startling.’ He sighed to himself, only to withdraw it as the vehicle’s speed doubled, no—he could’ve sworn it sped up more than five times than it was before coming into an abrupt stop.
“Here you are demigods, now pay up!” Chanyeol groaned. His head ached a whole lot, thanks to the fantastic driving. Narrowing his eyes, he immediately snatched the drachmas from Naeun’s grasp and handed it to whichever gray sister’s hand that was. The tall guy then opened the squeaky door thoroughly (gods, he wondered how that door lasted all these years after all the bumps), and stepped out to help the others out as well.
In a way, Naeun was right. Fastest mode of transportation? Leave it to the Gray Sisters. Heck, it seemed as if they only traveled for what, eight? nine minutes? And here they are, facing the tall buildings and skyscrapers of Manhattan, New York. “We’re actually here.” Chanyeol stated, more like admitted in a way where disbelief and astonishment weren’t clearly hidden from his tone.
@[G] Xi Luhan Suzy was still out for a vacation after Mr. D and Apollo himself planned a vacation for her (to be away from all the chaos back at the camp and the “walk-out” incident that happened in the Amphitheater) and catch up from all those years she spent at the Big House attic as a mummy.
Suzy sighed, slowly realizing that maybe the checklist that the campers had set for her mini-adventure in the human world was not really for her own convenience and relaxation. Glancing on the branded packages and paper bags on the floor, in which they requested for her to buy. And left her wandering around the streets of Manhattan looking like a girl drowned by paper bags and boxes.
She can’t really blame them though, they rarely get to shop and eat like normal people do without monsters chasing them for appetizers. She managed a chuckle at how those campers managed to trick her.
She stared at herself in the mirror; thinking how Krystal and the others were doing. So does the Athena girl back at the camp who was clueless and dumbfounded when she realized that the /too-soon/ prophecy was for her. A frown appeared on the girl’s face as Suzy stared back at her in the mirror. Her features flipping from being happy to the total opposite in a short span of seconds. She sighed, so as the girl in the reflection.
Suzy gathered her stuffs along with the paper bags and boxes which was resting on her arms that made her barely even see the path where she was walking and left the powder room of a nearby building which was not far from the park where the view of the colossal skyscrapers of the city left Suzy tongue-tied even after walking around Manhattan for a few hours already.
Suddenly, her stomach growled. “Great, just great.” She said sarcastically to herself as she paused from where she was standing to look for a place to eat.
When out of nowhere, a figure bumped into her. “Oh noooo my—“ After a half second, her stuffs were all over the place, the paper bags scattered all around the marble floor, earning a few glances from the people around her but she ignored them. She was about to protest when she saw a familiar figure running away, her mind registered the person almost immediately. She’d recognize him in any way, “Luhan?” She mumbled, almost a whisper that only she could hear. She reached for him instinctively – when a gush of wind seemed to be approaching her direction with a flapping sound, almost like, “Wings?” She bent instinctively and turned to look of what’s causing the sudden chaos only to see – Furies. Her eyes widened in shock as the Furies went pass her and one of them must have noticed her staring and asked if she had seen a boy running, “Uhm. Yes, he went there.” Suzy pointed to the opposite where the boy had run to, her other hand reaching for the back pocket of her jeans ready for to un-sheath her knife in case it might get pretty ugly, just to be sure. To her surprise, the Furies believed her and did not seem to know that she can see through the mist and that she is an oracle. Such luck. But there was no time to waste, she gathered her scattered things on the marble floor and ran after the boy who was running, shouting, “Luhaaaaaaaan!”.
[ Starter for Squishy Suzeeh <3 Sorry for this craappeh starter XD i don't even know what i'm writing about XD ]
The sun is up and the sky is blue, a nice day to take a quick walk in the city grounds. But things aren't so normal when you're a demigod. Blame genes for that.
Is it wrong to get a doughnut in the middle of the day in an ordinary shop? Apparently, for Luhan, the answer is yes. He was just getting himself some food out in the human world when a pack of wild monsters just appeared somewhere like mushrooms. He was starting to hate this thing. He couldn't even get a doughnut because of them. "Seriously? Do you guys ever take a break?" He asked looking at the pack of monsters that just appeared in the doughnut shop. Forgetting to order his doughnut, Luhan dashed off from the line and away from the advancing monsters. He doesn't know what the people see under the mist though. Maybe bullies chasing a wimpy kid or something. But it was more than that. Because the one that's chasing Luhan away is much more than big bullies... It was a pack of big ugly mutated bullies with wings. Furies.
He ran out of the shop and into the open field of the mall. Good thing it was packed of people since it was vacation right at the moment. Luhan kept on running, Oceanid in his grasp, ready to strike when needed to. But he can't keep on stabbing them. Since they could fly. They kept on catching up to him but he would just duck and swing his sword furiously above him. He wasn't much of a fighter, so much for a son of Poseidon. Finally he was exhausted, they had been chasing him around everywhere he goes, even in the men's bathroom.
He needed help, but who could he call right at the moment? No one.
@[G] Krystal Jung Yixing smirked in response to what she said. She was right of course but it doesn't mean he hadn't thought of it a couple of hours ago.
"Well, it seems to me that it's new formation that a child of Hades like you, is doing something knowing that you won't gain anything." he replied, that smirk still on his face.
"Or are you just being plain careless??" he followed ignoring her most previous statement. He wanted to be just quietly roaming the human world but oh well, boredom has its cost, specially if it strikes him. With his questions, he didn't mean to be hostile, challenging or anything. It was a simple tease to the demigoddess.
@[G] Zhang Yixing Krystal stopped abruptly at her tracks as she tilts her head slightly, glancing at the son of Hecate's side profile. A child of Hecate, he was, she discovered. He may look stoic on the outside appearance, but Krystal knows he's not really as dark as she was. He's a child of Hecate, alright. The goddess of wizardry and magic. He could just fool anyone through the mist. That, Krystal cannot quite tell.
He seemed unfathomable by his looks, seriously.
In response, she smirked, crossing her arms. "Escaping camp in anticipation to be in trouble with the camp director," she says. "I could ask the same to you, you know."
@[G] Wu Yifan They were obviously bound to get on each other's nerves anytime soon, judging by the way he narrows his eyes at her. She was actually surprised she had decided to be more easygoing than usual now. Otherwise, she was sure that a fight would have resulted. She's not exactly confident about dueling with Yifan, since she knows what he is capable of. Better to be safe than sorry. Anyway, she didn't have time for such matters - Camp Jupiter was calling her.
"Yeah, thanks," she says just as sarcastically, "I'll give you a call when I do decide to breathe fire."
Huffing that he had not given a proper goodbye (and realizing belatedly that she didn't deserve one, since she was just his stalker), she calls out a "See you around!" in the neutral tone she usually uses. It was a weird but interesting experience to actually speak with a brother like that. It was formative. She is sure it would help her in her pursuit to better herself.
She walks in the opposite direction now, curiosity thoroughly satisfied, evaporating a few puddles on the way out.
@[R] Park Sojin It was obvious that their conversation had taken a turn - for the better or worse he couldn't tell. It was ending as it was going for a more meaningful direction. Not that Yifan minded. He had to go back to the camp as well - his own camp - and time was ticking that he had stopped to talk. Yifan was beginning to see that enough time had been spent in the outside world and it was time to go back.
"Even if you did ask," he began, "it's doubtful that I would tell you or even bother to scratch the surface." Yifan's eyes narrow as he looks at the other, trying to decipher the latter's tone. He was no genius so he came up with nothing aside from theories.
"Well, I would suggest doing it by a lake." He said, offering the small bit of advice. He said it slightly sarcastically and the remark itself wasn't completely serious anyway so he was almost completely certain that the tone would be picked up easily. "If there's a lake near your camp, give it a shot." Yifan pushed off the wall, glancing at his watch for the time. Half shrugging, he started to walk, not offering a direct goodbye.
@[G] Wu Yifan It was clear that what had been a girl-fascinated-with-a-boy-who-wielded-the-same-power-as-her had turned into a deep-philosophical-talk-on-the-problems-of-gods-and-demigods. She really hadn't expected such a conversation to come about, and it was quite evident that they had contrasting yet complementary ideas on the whole thing. But these kinds of thoughts made Sojin's head ache. Anyway, she was pretty sure the both of them just wanted to return home to their camps by the end of the day.
"Don't worry, I won't be asking you for any of your issues. I barely know you, anyway," she says blankly, extinguishing the flames on her fingers, possibly for the last time that day. She had practiced it enough; she'll learn to set her whole body on fire another day. "I don't expect you to know what I've gone through either; I was just making conversation," she says bluntly.
"Just the thought of putting fire near my lungs scares me," she shudders. "But yeah, you're right." She observes the setting sun - it was time to go.
"Well, it was nice stalking and talking to you, I guess," she sheepishly tries, taking a step back. "Thanks for the conversation, and I guess I'll see you around. Maybe in a fire-breathing competition, or whatever." She adjusts the collar of her coat as she turns back, ready to go back to Camp Jupiter. She needed time to think about everything they've talked about. After all, it was the first time anyone had ever brought up such issues with her.
@[R] Park Sojin Yifan didn't comment. He didn't feel like he had to. The argument between two races was something that seemed to have no ending and nobody really knew how it began. There was a bit of resemblance of how it began between the campers, but not necessarily between the gods.
"It doesn't really matter who understands and who doesn't. We all have issues and I, in particular, don't really enjoy discussing mine." Yifan shook his head, choosing that leaning against the building would be a good choice. He had been standing there to melt the ice and continued after throughout their ongoing conversation. "We both have issues that I'm sure we wouldn't mind keeping to ourselves."
Thinking about fire, he had to agree - somewhat. "The only way your insides could possibly burned would be if the fire was internal. But I see how it's a concern." He shrugged with the same indifference that he mostly always had.
Yifan couldn't really care. He would tell a stranger no more than what he would tell an acquaintance, which isn't much. He had always been confident enough in himself where if his careless words did stir up a fight he would be strong enough to defend himself. Luckily, so far, that hasn't happened.
@[G] Wu Yifan "We'll see, we'll see," Sojin nods dismissively. Honestly, this silent war had lasted for as long as she could remember. She was sure the other demigods would hardly be open to an idea such as peace. As long as the other race existed, there would always be a rift. That kind of attitude wasn't going to change any time soon, but Sojin still hopes it will change in the future. Maybe.
"True; as demigods, we know that. There are bound to be backstabbers and manipulators." Sojin looks thoughtfully at the face of the other, contemplating on his words. They had different backgrounds yet the same power. Sojin cherished her parents, Yifan didn't have them, and yet, here they were, both setting their bodies on fire. "We grew up differently, I understand that. Hence, our different views."
"I feel like my lungs are being filled with smoke," she frowns, fiddling with another flame on the tips of her fingers. She nods, taking in his words and advice. "You're right; it does differ for every person. Or rather, every demigod. Fire immunity is something I've continually practiced over the years, so I don't worry too much about burning my face. Breathing could be a potential problem, but I'm more afraid of my lungs receiving the damage than my airway, if that makes any sense."
Realizing that she had been rambling, she shakes her head to try to clear her thoughts. She releases a small hum in understanding, preventing herself from speaking to much. This was actually the first time she had revealed so much of herself (and to a stranger, no less), so she surprised even herself. Anyway, she didn't have much to say about the children of Ares - she didn't know any of them.
@[R] Park Sojin "Well, the future may be able to change that." He said, shrugging with indifference. Yifan only identified as Greek, not necessarily with the Greeks. It was the split of culture that evidently spread apart each side but it was a bridge that people would eventually have to cross in order to make peace. That is, if they wanted to make peace at all.
"You learn to not have to depend on people. Of course, it's still important to admit that not everyone can be fully independent but being able to rely on yourself is important too." Yifan blinked, seeing as how the sun was getting brighter since the day was passing them by throughout the conversation. "I grew up without a strong parental figure of any kind in my life. I was lucky that maybe one or two wanted to be even a simple mentor. Nobody stuck around long enough for me."
Watching someone else manipulate fire was quite amusing but the amusement stopped short when the latter didn't fully set her body on fire. If anyone else approached with a stunt like that he'd be concerned but he was certain that the latter knew her own limits. "That's somewhat surprising. The torso was easy for me to set on fire, but it really does differ for every person." Yifan said, unfolding both his arms to set the tips of his fingers to the center of his chest on fire. "I had a fear of putting fire around my head and when I got over that fear, I was able to set my whole body on fire. Once you pass that small roadblock, you can finish it off."
Thinking about children of Ares didn't really phase him but he had a run in once or twice with someone of the same sort. "They're too wild to me. I'm not particularly fond of them generally but I can't speak for all of his kids. I'm sure there are some that are bearable."
@[G] Wu Yifan "Well, you and I may think like that, but unfortunately, majority of the Greeks and Romans don't," Sojin deadpans, burrowing her hands further into her coat pockets. Vulcan and Hephaestus were technically the same god, but culture and experience had given them different names, different identities almost. It was these differences and the inability to look past them that caused the feud between the two races of demigods.
"Yeah, I guess you can put it that way," Sojin nods, "independence and all is important. It's also really hard to depend on someone who isn't there."
"I don't know though," she continues, "I've always held my mother and father close to me. Even though I don't really see my father - my mother and my powers are all I have." The apathy that was the norm for Sojin was only broken by her affections towards her mother and the appreciation for her gift of fire. Sure, maybe she wouldn't have been bullied if she had been borne to a normal father, but Sojin liked to believe she would always be happier in Camp Jupiter than anywhere else.
Sojin hesitantly tries to set her body on fire, but she stops before the flames can engulf her torso. "I can't even put my chest area on fire," she says forlornly, extinguishing her limbs with small puffs of smoke. She watches as Yifan demonstrated his capability and affirms to herself that he was much better than she was. "I try my best to practice everywhere, even in the human world. I'll get to that point someday, engulfing my head in flames."
"Burned in the process," Sojin half-smiles. "That's a good pun. Do you have a particular dislike for a certain child of Ares? I mean, why tell me though?"
@[R] Park Sojin "We do need each other. What would happen if one or the other didn't exist?" he asked, removing his hands from his pockets to cross his arms over his chest instead. Each side - Greek and Roman - had their own stories to tell. Each side told them with their own identities but the gods in those stories happen to be one in the same, just named differently.
"Zeus made it possible for Camp Half Blood to stay safe, but we didn't really need it. We're grateful for it but it wasn't a necessary means now that we're growing stronger. Other than that, the gods don't play a large role in our lives. Greek demigods can go without them." Yifan said, trying hard not to scoff to obviously. He had a certain level of disdain for his father who never really bothered to contact him. His experience with parents in the past did not happen to be good ones. In fact, that was the reason why he preferred to be alone so much.
At the mentioning of how he had put his body on fire, Yifan raised a brow. From the way the other wanted to use her power so badly Yifan had assumed that she knew how to wield it to its full extent. "The hardest part is probably engulfing your head with the flames. It feels suffocating at first." And in an instant fire warped around Yifan's body again, starting from the soles of his feet up. "The fire isn't even something I can really feel but there was always a small bit of hesitance about putting fire around my head. What if I lost control or underestimated the fire and it burned my face? What if I forgot how to breathe?"
He allowed the flame to linger around his body a bit longer before extinguishing it. Puffs of smoke lingered around his body but were gently blown away by the subtle wind. "Probably. Children of Ares never turn down a fight, even if they may be burned in the process."
@[G] Wu Yifan Sojin finds herself half-smiling, not because Yifan had said anything particularly funny, but because this was the first time she had seen him laugh. She thought him to be the type to stoic and cold - well, much like her, in normal circumstances, so it was nice to see him smile for once. (Really, were all demigods of fire the complete opposite of their element?) "Different sides of the same coin," she hums, "that's a good thought to ponder. If you put it that way, it may almost seem mandatory that we do get along, since, after all, one side cannot live without the other."
She retracts the flame and instead settles for rubbing at her hands, creating friction and therefore setting both her hands ablaze. She takes a step away from Yifan, warming her cold fingers. "Well, I can't go against history," Sojin agrees, "but I don't want to put down the gods completely. To be brutally honest, these gods and their children, the camp - they're my only home." She looks away from him then, embarrassed by the sudden confession.
"Didn't help because I could have offended you," Sojin throws out nonchalantly, the tongues of fire at her knuckles. "I control fire, you control fire, as the old saying goes, beat fire with fire. I'm not actually in the mood to battle with you." When Yifan mentions his powers, Sojin turns around to look at him again. "But it was cool, how you did that! I'm not actually able to that yet, but I do want to learn," she rubs the back of her head sheepishly.
Extinguishing the flames, she tucks her hands into her coat pockets, thoroughly warmed. "Children of Ares, huh," Sojin kicks a pebble away, "do I count myself fortunate enough that I have not encountered one?"

Writing sample: "Why is it that I always end up in the worst spots?" Magix asked herself as she stepped cautiously on the wet stones to get across the river bed. She usually found walks calming but when she is trying her best not to freak out from thinking someone is following her farther and farther from camp, it didn't have quite the same effect. Magix was on the verge of going crazy by the time she got to the other side of the river bed. "Just a little more," She told herself, softly, " now." Magix took off in a different direction, somehow making it back to camp and back to her cabin. Once she did however, she was out of breath, almost dying on her bed. Once she calmed down she grabbed her sketchbook and started sketching to take her mind off what happened in the woods. "I wonder what I'm gonna get chased by next?"
