ic and ooc.

this is something that really changed over the years. roleplays used to be about you actually portraying or pretending to be the character or face you're using. there used to be a very distinct line between what was in character and what was out of character, people actually used brackets to indicate that they were speaking as thesmelves an not their character. now a good amount of the time people either don't do that at all or may only do it sometimes.  even though so many places say in the rules not to mix the two, almost everyone does in nonaus while i rarely see it happen in aus which is very ironic.  even the admins do it  and then they pick and choose when they want the rule to apply.  why did there suddenly become a huge blurred line between in character and out of character? now you can hardly ever tell if something is supposed to be about the actual character or the roleplayer themselves and i personally believe this is something that ends up causing things like issues and drama as you don't know whether it's  the character or actual roleplayer acting that way.  a lot of roleplays have out of character rooms which do get used at times but most people just prefer to be in rooms where they should be in character and start talking about themselves personally. i feel like that has a lot to do with why there tends to be so little legitimate plotting and roleplaying in places nowadays, as people just use roleplays as chat rooms or like they're on some social media site instead of the entire point of this site. there's nothing wrong with chatting and connecting with people out of character, but why do it in a place where you're supposed to be in character instead of using brackets to indicate it or using the dedicated room for it only?  it's especially disheartnening and awkward for someone like me who actually tries to stay in character and portray my character while everyone else is talking about things tthat happened out of character and therefore ignore people who actually are being in character. it seems like a lot of people aren't actual on this site to roleplay but to just chat 24/7 and honestly, what is the point of even being on here if that's the case?

"— as people just use roleplays as chat rooms or like they're on some social media site instead of the entire point of this site."

i had this discussion with a friend and both of us agreed that there is no longer a solid line between ooc and ic chat. and if this website ever has its own mobile app, it's no longer going to be known as roleplay republic. it's just going to be a chat app for kpop fans, and that's it. not for roleplaying anymore. say goodbye to all the aurps from there on out. aurpers, we may need to move to discord or other platforms.

"— but why do it in a place where you're supposed to be in character instead of using brackets to indicate it or using the dedicated room for it only?"

i know this is gonna sound harsh but i think it's because the only time people would give attention to their issue is when they're putting on an idol's face. if we check an ooc room, most issues are ignored until they brought it into an ic chatroom.

ngl it's discouraging to see less roleplaying and writing but more chatting on this platform when that's not even the main purpose of the website in the first place. seeing the lack of aurps and inactivity in the old and current ones is disheartening too.

its very frustrating when this happens, and even in au's people tend to be very ooc chat focused these days.

Honestly, its been nearly 6 months since ive properly written/rped and i hate it. But I also find it hard to join new places too, as I have a big pet peeve of people just leaving me hanging for plots. it has gotten to the point where I wonder if i should just have private rps. But then my muse would be ?

In the end, people tend to only rp with their close friends and if they try to rp with others, they will just drop the plot without a word, yet continue with their friends. That's just how rpr has worked these days.

I am hoping that with summer just around the corner, it will bring out more literate-based rps.

"tends to be so little legitimate plotting and roleplaying in places nowadays, as people just use roleplays as chat rooms or like they're on some social media site instead of the entire point of this site." this y_Y is one of the many reasons ppl leave this place. as an antisocial person myself that wants to rp it's rlly discouraging that this is a thing. sadly, aurps don't get much love these days. thus what's the point of being here if a majority of rpers don't actually rp rip
