One hundred and three years ago, the circus Onew was born into was almost destroyed. Back then of course, Onew was nonexistent and Jinki roamed the grounds as a young boy training to be a magician – the son to the ringmaster ruling then. It had all been swell before everything and everyone was wiped out… Yellow fever was ravaging the surrounding villages that the circus traveled to and in turn it infested the circus people. One after the other they died while the people who were spared were captured and burn at the stake by the villagers. The non-circus peoples’ fears of the unknown led them to such terrible actions. Elemental benders and magicians were highly sought out and hunted more than the others but no one was able to escape the clutches of the frightened, angry mobs that came.

It lasted a long time, way too long, and when Jinki reached the age of nineteen, his father was eventually captured, tortured and murdered like the other circus folk because he’d out revenge on a villager who’d a young, female contortionist in the form of murder.

Jinki was given the title of ringmaster by the three remaining crew of the circus: his mother, a bear keeper, and the ually vandalized contortionist. Unfortunately, their lives were cut short… The bear keeper was mauled to death by his very own, starved and ill bear while the two women succumbed to the fever.

The day the last person in the circus passed, Jinki became Onew.

He was alone and barely able to sustain the circus with his weak, amateur magic. He mourned the death of what had once been his grand, loud, musical and talented family, and with him the tent mourned as well. For the tent is an alive, breathing entity able to feel and live like everyone else. Onew had established a connection with it and they survived through the tragedy together, traveling far and wide and slowly getting better with their shows. It took him 50 years until he was able to find 10 new members to join the circus family – members no longer with the modern circus but just as important – and to revive the circus.

Circumstances made it so that the circus was on the verge of destruction again. And then he met Hangeng… And with their fateful meeting, the circus bloomed with new people, and new performers.
