The year is 2145, and society as we know it is gone forever. Now there is a ruling class once again, and that class is vampire.
Despite years of biding their time, stuck hiding underground, trying not to get caught as notorious serial killers or cultists and civil wars between the Seven Covens that threatened to end the race entirely, the vampires came out stronger than ever. They were waiting for the right moment to strike, and 2020 set them up for the best hit of all. They saw the failings of humanity when it came to pandemic level diseases. They saw that we were headed to implosion and unrest. The leaders of the five remaining covens came together to enact a plan they had long been waiting for: to rule the world.

It started with offering food and shelter, money and vaccines, guarantees of good lives… For a price. That price was usually indebted slavery and use as a personal blood donor or the sale of a loved one into the vampire’s debt. In those days, it was an equal business exchange, but that was just step one. Once humans grew used to the idea of living around and submitting to vampires, each of the covens played a part in creating the new world order.
The vampires of Stan - one of the eldest covens of the purest blood, with dazzling good looks, power of glamour and illusion, and the charisma to go far - began taking over the airwaves. Behind the scenes, they owned most of the biggest entertainment conglomerates. Not only were they pretty, but ruthless business owners, squashing out nearly all the competition. As soon as vampires controlled the media, they began to control the perception of the humans around them. Human minds are easy things to mold, even without glamour, if you control their television, idols, icons, and mass media.
The Vampires of Stan turned to their siblings in Gheata for the next step. They were masters of manipulation of weather, a combination of science and nature that was originally looked down upon for their icy blue eyes and strange method of becoming a coven. Their originator proved them to be worthy as leaders in the war that brought these Five Covens to the top, and from then on, they became a great asset. Around the world, there were natural disasters that separated and herded humans together. Gheata made it so that each country, each state, and each nation were separated more than they had been before. They froze crops and gave rise to droughts, increasing the humans’ reliance on the assets controlled by the Five Covens.
Once Gheata completed their weather based tasks, it was Feraru’s turn. The vampires of Feraru, imbued with the power of fire and mysticism from their strong Romanian bloodlines, took to causing as much chaos as they could. It was those vampires that began to combine their powers with the already weakened agricultural systems, causing wildfires and damages to critical areas around the world. They knew humans would set the world ablaze sooner or later. They just helped it along to further their plans.
Lastly came the Lupei and Vulpei. Lupei were masters of the beasts of the world, being able to shapeshift into animals. As long as they could take a sample of DNA, which was easy as biting the poor creatures, they could shift into them for a time. Vulpei, their much more human cousin coven, could only shift into foxes but held themselves as masters of chance. Anything that a Vulpei wanted, they could get through seemingly just being lucky. They are where we got the saying, ‘smart as a fox’, their cleverness showed by how well things always work out for them. These two worked together, bringing ‘animals’ to humans for slaughter and asking them simply if they’d like to be housed somewhere safer than the places they lived. Using these techniques - offering fresh food and chancing the humans’ willingness to say yes on lucky bets, these two covens began to round up all the humans into centralized areas.
The Covens began to call these areas orphanages, and compared to the places that we would think of, each orphanage was built more like a community. Inside of great stone walls that encompassed a few squared acres, they would house small villages of people. Each orphanage rotated people every few generations to decrease the chances of inbreeding, and each orphanage was given a vampire leader outside of the walls well as a human leader inside - with the idea that the vampires would control the human leader, and the human leader’s job was to be a sort of town mayor, rallying the humans along.
Most orphanages were situated next to a farm, a similar set-up except with no walls closing them in and older people who either had not been chosen for service as blood slaves or had some sort of natural deformity that made them undesirable. Among these people were also those that had bought their freedom, or made deals with the vampires to sell off children, siblings, or other family members in order to live the quiet, human life that didn’t end in an almost guaranteed death. These farms grew crops, raised animals, made trade goods, and generally lived quite the provincial life. They exported everything that the humans could need, as well as plenty of base materials for the vampires to continue living in the luxurious lap they had grown accustomed to over the years. Once in control, the vampires settled into a life much as we know of now. Some are richer than others, and some do menial jobs, but overall, they rule the world.
There is no more disease, no more suffering, and no more wars.
