Sehun stirred, eyes screwed shut and paws kicking. He was having that dream again, as usual, about that fateful day. The day that 'Hunnie' locked himself away. It was like any other routine Tuesday; Sehun's parents were going out to go hunting to replenish the stock of deer. They would usually be back by sunset. Sehun nuzzled his mother, Chaerin, goodbye and flicked his ears towards his father. Sona was still asleep in her corner, the small puppy due to wake up within an hour or two. Sehun would feed her her favorite drink, honeyed milk the elders would make daily, when she woke up. Only a few weeks shy of the age of 10, Sehun was quite the bubbly pup. Chaerin cherished her son, spoiling him whenever she could and playing with him often. Sehun loved his mother. Chaerin also loved him dearly, keeping Sehun's 'condition' to herself that the elders whispered to her.
But something was off about this Tuesday in particular. Sona, for one, sniffled constantly in her sleep and kicked her paws with trembling whimpers. It was odd; Sona never did that and Sehun was quick to trot over and pick his little sister up, cooing sweet nothings to get her to settle down. It worked and Sehun set her back down, moving to burrow into a pile of furs his mother had collected over time. They smelled like her and for the next two peaceful hours, Sehun slept like a newborn baby. The next odd occurrence was the honeyed milk Sona pined for each morning. The elder in charge of the honey hadn't come back from the forest, later found to be staring off into the lake with an unreadable expression. Sona wailed, but got over the fact she wouldn't get her milk that day after a while.
The third damning clue was the early return of Sehun's father and the ominous absence of his mother. Covered in blood and scratches, Sehun's father didn't dare make eye contact with his son, instead lowering his head and nosing at Sona half heartedly. "Father.. Where's umma?" Sehun had asked, his father cringing. The solid brown wolf could only shake his head before walking away. That moment was when Sehun realized just how fast he could run, paws tearing through the grass and tripping over fallen branches. The stench of blood was strong, bloody paw prints and leaking claw marks on trees embedded themselves into Sehun's brain.
"Umma!" The pup cried, tears streaming down his cheeks. He couldn't smell her, the blood was so strong, and howls from his pack ringing behind him obscured his chance of listening for her. "Umma!" Sehun ran for what seemed like an eternity before stopping abruptly at a gruesome scene. Blood, torn fur, stray claws and teeth scattered.. Sehun's eyes went blank, his body trembling because the mutilated body in front of him belonged to his dear, beloved mother. The alpha of Sehun's pack, Thalassa, would move no more. Sehun collapsed seconds after registering the scene, blacking out, and hunting wolves from Thalassa coming upon the scene just moments after Sehun. A number of them shifted to take Sehun back to his home. It was later determined, and confirmed by Sehun's father, that Chaerin was killed by a stray wolf named Mars who had attacked them both. Chaerin was left alone by Sehun's father, who quickly fled the scene. Mars was Chaerin's brother. And Sona's father.
Sehun, however, was told a different story. He was told Chaerin was killed by a panther that had ambushed them. Why he was told a different story was never disclosed. The truth about Sona was never released, either.
"Umma!" Sehun cried out, sitting upright in a frightened state, tears brimming. "Please, come back.." He whimpered, curling in on himself. His fingers pulled at his hair desperately, as if trying to find purchase on his mother's hands once more. Instead, Sehun found himself burying against the wolf beside him, face hidden in the other's fur.
(It's kind of weird, but that's pretty much a rundown of what happened. Going to go backwards with his background. Incorporate pieces here and there.)
@Channie (I think I'll do this one.. Because it doesn't have a 3rd pov version and, for a 'simple' plot, it's pretty interesting. At least to me, haha.
