magic? supernatural?
Since there are gods and goddesses, as well the underwater fire and potions and stuff, is magic / supernatural stuff allowed?
No. Any magic or supernatural things going on in the roleplay happens more in the background and with NPCs if at all. This roleplay is for humans, and despite some being able to breathe underwater, we plan to keep everyone normal. Magic is not allowed for any IC interaction and you're not allowed to be some supernatural being of sorts. There will be no mermaids and sirens and there will be no characters with healing magic or anything of the sort.
just in greece?
Do countries other than Greece exist?
Yes! In fact, we encourage you to not stick solely to areas related to Greece, and we suggest you click here to view a list of other known locations in the roleplay. We have a number of settlements both on land and underwater, and we're also open to suggestions for new locations if you want to include them in your character backgrounds and scenarios!
terrans x thalassans?
How do terrans and thalassans interact? How come thalassans can go on land?
Most terran/thalassan interaction happens on land or in secure underwater areas with plenty of air to breathe for terrans. Thalassans are still humans with lungs that breathe in air, they just have an extra layer of skin (nemi) that helps them breathe underwater.
The reason thalassans have the ability to breathe on land and in the sea is mentioned in the legend, but is basically because Pontus (a sea god) granted them this ability.
terrans x thalassans? pt 2
How do terrans and thalassans generally feel about each other?
It's safe to say they're at a stage where they no longer deeply despise or hate the other kind, but they aren't the best of friends and don't like each other. Most terrans and thalassans only deal with one another out of obligation, as a "because they have to" kind of thing.
This doesn't mean that every terran is a thalassan hating piece of turd, or every thalassan is out there harassing every terran they come across because Those Damn Terrans or whatever. This is just a "hey I don't like you, but you can fish better than I can and I have access to neat materials so help" kind of situation. Plenty of thalassans and terrans can and do get along, but they need to be careful about that publically.
Any thalassans caught hanging out with terrans on friendly terms get side eyed, and banished from their communities if they're in a romantic relationship. This is mostly because of their history and distrust of anyone willing to side with "the enemy," but also because it makes more sense than going back and forth between land and sea because you're dating or married to a terran. Most thalassans that are banished end up staying permanently on land and losing their nemi since it's hard to live on your own underwater.
Terrans have a similar approach to it, but they're a little more forgiving about cutting people off and just excommunicate someone from the church/don't recognize the terran individual as someone actually in their own community until they want to leave their thalassan partner.

faq/glossary!
last updated 00/00/00
The roleplay's frequently asked questions (left) and glossary of sorts (right) for anything people may find themselves confused about. It will be updated regularly, but make sure you ask about anything you don't know here if it isn't updated!
nemi:
Nemi is based off of Nagi no Asukara's "Ena" and is short for "Nero Dermis," which literally means "Water Skin." It is what gives Thalassans the ability to breathe underwater, and it must be well taken care of if Thalassans want to keep it.
When out in the sun, a Thalassan's nemi glows kind of like Edward from Twilight. It shimmers and glitters very noticeably on days it's very hot especially, but it isn't blinding or anything. This is also when the countdown for it cracking off begins.
After about 4 hours out of water, Thalassans need to bathe in salt water specifically or risk losing their nemi. Once the crackling process starts, you can stop it if you do, but it basically means your skin is drying out and it's actually quite painful to go through. As it dries, it hardens and you can peel it off, but do so carefully or else you might get cut by the sharpness! Nemi can feel like shards of glass.
essence:
Essence is the sacred fire of Galene which Galini residents use to heat their underwater. It also grants them protection and aids in their general wellbeing. Terrans tend to call it "sea fire" because that’s basically what it is.
Anyone affiliated with the Temple of Galene also knows that it can be used in healing and annointing rituals, and it has even been said that the people highest in the church (or that have been personally blessed) have been able to speak to the goddess through this essence. This is commonly treated as a myth though.
blessings:
Blessings are basically the same as Essence, but it’s not fire. Thalassans call it an elixir or potion because Terrans have to drink it in order to reap the benefits.
The Serenity Syndicate basically the only ones with access to it, Terrans don't really make use of it, but those who do are said to grow physically stronger for a short period of time, they're said to be healed of their illnesses, and they're said to have the ability to connect with the goddess Eirene. It is also rumored that blessings are bottles and vials of Eirene's tears that either taste really sweet like coffee creamer, really medicinal, like ginger tea, or minty.
